January 7, 2012-- 7 night Western on the Magic!

Hi KNEWTON64 - -
We HAVE been on the Western Caribbean Itinerary (NCL) but in Spring - not January!!!
I've read that it may be wet and cold?? - If so, we'll just enjoy the ship.........(Oh yes - and of course new sandals from KINOS in Key West (the best)......

have I stumbled into someone who knows Key West like the back of their hand????:woohoo:

We just MaY have 2 talk.......;) cuz I have never been there and lookin forward to it:yay:.

Tho I do say that yes, I have been on DCL vacation in January (2009) and the waters were just fab!! No issues.

But about Kinos.........hmmmmmmm - is that in Mallory Square?? If not, where is that place??:confused3

I'm confused - your post #96 (Hey, now worries cuz neither have I been on a Western cruise b 4 either) says you've NOT been on the Western Itinerary??? - Hope you HAVE done this Itinerary in January (your post #101 (Tho I do say that yes, I have been on DCL vacation in January (2009) and the waters were just fab!! No issues.) and the weather will be warm & fine for the beaches.

As for Key West - I've been many, many times (but not since we've moved up 'north' to Boynton Beach - we used to live on Miami Beach.
- Kino makes the BEST handmade leather sandals in great colors - the ONLY 'flip-flops that never hurt my toes!..They last FOREVER - (except my granddaughters take mine home - so I have to replace now  )
The On-line site doesn't show the big selection available (at least from when I was there)... they are open on Sunday (when we will be there!) It's down a little side street - walkable from the docks :yay:

...for trying to focus on buying a new Beagle puppy:cloud9:.

I had to last month put down "Ladybug" a 14 yr old female tri-colored dog I have had ever since she was a puppy.

But now I am in the mood to look for a new dieting, walking partner, etc.

Got 4 serious inquiries now..just whittling them down to one and put down the deposit. Hope to have the new puppy in about 60 days ish.:woohoo:

Just the cost.....OUCH!!

Ok....about my prev DCL cruise.....

It was to Nassau and CC NOT Key West so ooppss!! Sorry about the miscue.

Tho yes, I now see what u r asking about the water temp, Jan and Key West and so forth. My best guess is that if the waters in the Carribean were about 72 degrees with an air temp of about 88 degrees (atleast when i went in Jan 09), to me I feel that such wud be the same for atleast the Carribbean and HOPEFULLY, Key West as well.

Me? I have shore escursions set for all shore stops and I cold temps dont bother me as I plan on hitting the ground running during this adventure and having some nice Disney fun:yay:.

All rightee - gotta go.

UGH!!! and to think...MORE 100+ degree days down here in DFW area...RRRRRRRRR....Looks like we will break our record of most 100 + days in DFW ...set in 1980.

OUCH!!

Ah well - here's to Key West:goodvibes.

&

thanks for the tip about Kino sandals.:thumbsup2

I tried to send personal messages to a few of you but was unsuccessful since you can’t send personal messages until both you and the recipient have made 10 or more posts. As an alternative I guess I’ll post the messages here. :)

Thank you Sir William for your advice on shore excursions :flower3:

Thanks for assembling the Fish Extender list Knewton64. I think you may have missed Seorwig, DH & DW + DS 8 + DD 6. Their post is on the top of page four. :littleangel:

My family and I would love to join your meet before the cruise. Since it is our first time cruising if it is at all possible to give detail direction about the meet location so that we would be able to find it easily it would be much appreciated.

MonicaW: we are also from Ontario and our daughters are the same age. We are in the Ottawa area. If you don’t mind me asking – where in Ontario are you from? We’re planning a camping trip up to the Bruce next week. I hear Northern Ontario is Beautiful. :squirrel:

DeeLee: I am also traveling with my parents and our sons are the same age. Maybe we could chat before or on the cruise. ::MickeyMo

Take care everyone, only 122 days to go!!!!! :yay:

:eeyore: stephaniemontpetit@live.com

knowton I think a DISmeet sounds fun. What a great way to meet new cruise friends.

PixieDoodles My DS will be glad to know your son will be on this cruise, he always worries that there wont be any kids to hang with. We should chat pre-cruise.

ONLY 122 DAYS!! I better start packing! and the pre-cruise diet.........

DIET! What a dirty word! lol to be honest I started my diet the day I booked the trip. I didn't want to look back on all the great family photos and cringe. I'm down 38 lbs. and my goal was 62 which would get me to where I was before kids - not small but healthier. It's time to tighten my laces and get a bit more serious. No more Friday night pizza for me :guilty: but boy oh boy do I plan on making up for it on the ship!!!

Caleb will be very happy - he can be a bit shy at times and has the same fears. Once I get my 10 posts in I'll message you here - or feel free to email me direct. That invitation is open to everyone :) I'd love to pre-cruise chat with you all.

It's only 10555395 seconds to cruise time! But who's counting right? :woohoo:

Hello from Brampton!

We are originally from Montreal and are now right on the Mississauga border!

This will be our 5th cruise with Disney in two years :sail: - and my 25 year old wants to come along :confused3 ...go figure!!!!

We just got back from Alaska and enjoyed it  although it was rain most of the time. We just go out and do our thing :rolleyes1 without always joining a group - hop on public transit to get to where we want to go, etc - depends on the destination, though!

Key West is what I am soooo looking forward to :banana::banana: Mexico is not our thing (got held up with guns :headache: etc and REALLY sick thereafter ) so that will be my spa day :cloud9:.

The FEs are always a hoot  - our last cruise had 4 FE groups :grouphug: of 15 families each!!!! so we selected to group with the teens - makes it easier for the FE gifts! :thumbsup2

So now that everyone is back to school, we are all unpacked and laundry is done, I can start planning this cruise! :cool1: Just a few more pounds to lose :teacher: ..... anyone need a pacing partner?

Monica

As some of you know, I just lost my 14 yr old "4 legged" family member July 17th ("Ladybug" a tri-colored female Beagle) due to old age and numerous health issues:hug:

But from the ashes comes possible good news as the foster Mom of "Belle" (what an odd occurence.....a dog named "Belle" and me a Disney nut.....who wudda thunk it!;) & I are now talking to the point of the 3 of us getting together for a Meet and Greet to see if "Belle" & I are a match.:goodvibes

So cross yer fingers everyone as it would be nice to find once again a dieting partner, walking partner, etc.

Any to think, I have only lost 6 pounds for my upcoming Hawaii adventure!!

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

Ok BELLE WHERE R YOU!!!!!

ANYHWO -

On a lighter note -

This weekend, I plan on updating FE lists, etc so "PWEASE" feel free to chime in about wants and needs about a DISmeets; meaning date, time, where, etc.
Me? well, on my January (I believe 7th) 2009 DCL cuise, ours was at 9:30pm where we initially met for about 30 minutes at the Promenade Lounge then afterwards, those of us who wanted to chill out with a mix drink could then opt to go on to watch the evening shows up at deck 4 forward "area" (I am trying to be nice and not say the word BAR) on the Disney Wonder.
About 6 of us met every night that way and just had lots of Disney fun throughout the cruise.

Me? WEll, I am at a disatvantage here cuz I am a solo traveler; hence I feel that a lot of you wud want a DISmeets the day of embarkation - which I am ok with that.

But - what I am kindly asking is for people to please chim in with their thoughts about dates, times, etc for a Meet & Greet and I will be glad to go with the majority.popcorn::.

So - I understand some may have different ideas about dates, times, where to meet and so on. It doesnt really bother me if we even have this day one just right b 4 the boat drill (hold the meet & greet at say 2 or 3pm??). So please feel free to chime in with your thoughts please. There is no right or wrong. WE cud even have nightly "DISmeets" if ya want. I am just thinking outloud here.
Also, If any kind soul wants to have fun and create some sort of a logo for our cruise - that wud be cool!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Allright - enuff of my babble. Gotta go fer now. WIll update FE's and such Saturday. If I am lucky enuf to be taking Belle home Sat, then it will be Monday (my next day off from that dreaded "W" word....work;).

PPLLEEAASSEE wish me luck on my tri-colored Beagle seach cuz dieting for vacations by youself stinks!!
but then again, I lost 15 pounds for my recently (upcoming) & now completed Ireland adventure.........then I gained 12 pounds while ON my Ireland vacation.:lmao:

Been real.

T.T.F.N.

Holy WOW MonicaW - We're practically neighbours! I’m right on the Quebec boarder in Cornwall. This is our first cruise and we couldn’t be more excited! My daughter is scared to death of flying so we’re driving down – ouch! Should be an adventure! Not as “exciting” as being held at gunpoint but I think all of us could do without that kind of excitement. I don’t blame you one bit for rewarding yourself with a spa day. You certainly deserve it!

I’m in for anyone who wants to start a dieting record!

Good Luck on connecting with your puppy knewton64. Beagles are sooooooo cute! :dog:

Hi KNEWTON64 - -
We HAVE been on the Western Caribbean Itinerary (NCL) but in Spring - not January!!!
I've read that it may be wet and cold?? - If so, we'll just enjoy the ship.........(Oh yes - and of course new sandals from KINOS in Key West (the best)......

I made this exact same cruise this year. Our weather was mixed and we're hoping it'll be greatly improved this coming year.

This year an unusual cold front moved in while we were in Cozumel. We were on a kayak/snorkeling excursion and the waves and rain got so bad we couldn't even get in the water and returned to the ship (got a full refund). The rest of the day was rainy and cool (we spent it shopping in town). Sea state got worse as we left but the captain did his best to find calmer seas and we were able to have the Pirate Party, though it was a rough night for many (it didn't bother me but I've been in worse while in the Navy). The next day was also a bit rough (we had waves splashing out of the pools!), but it finally calmed down. CC was also very cool as a result (one CM said it was one of the coldest days she'd experienced in 5 years at CC). I swam with the rays though.

One of the ship's officers told me the weather we were experiencing was highly unusual and he had not seen it that bad before either. Other passengers who had sailed in January previously said the same. The weather was great in Key West and Grand Cayman.

We're going again so that should say something about my optimism.

hey - I have discovered something ..........

and that's
listening to DIS Radio while on DISboards.com really makes the experience being on DISboards so much "funner.":goodvibes.

Ok.......now about the FE list:

OK - so what exactly a "FISH EXTENDER?"

Good Question. I feel that the best way to get a good idea what they are would be to do a search on Disboards.com & viola!!

up will pop up many a thread about the subject.

and shud I have left someone off the list, please feel free to let me know....or as them balloon CM's sometimes gesture to each other on Mainstreet USA; with a slight bend in the knees with one hand covering their mouth.....

as if they are mouthing an "OOPS" gesture to each other.

To to anyone I left off the list, I give to you a heart felt "OOPS!" hand gesture:upsidedow.

Oke-dokey - Gotta run for now. I promise to update the list from time to time.

**** DISMEETS UPDATE *****

AS of about Sept 20th, I am seeing that this adventure is almost upon us so if that's ok with all of ya, I feel lets go with what most of us have mentioned which is to hold this get together:

date: day of embarkation day.
Where: Promennade Lounge.

Promenade Lounge is a 104-seat lounge located on Deck 3, Aft situated off the elevator lobby on the Disney Magic. Open from approximately noon to midnight daily, Promenade Lounge is the perfect place for families to enjoy a refreshing beverage or snack, surf the Internet or partake in fun activities that occur throughout the day.

Now....about the time for this bugger:

My best guess is to have a rolling" DISmeets; meaning say around 2:3opm ish until about 3;30pm??? Would that be fair to say?? this way, people can come and go and not feel pinned in to a specific time (like 3-3:30pm). And yes, I feel the "Adventures Away" party kicks in at 4:30pm (right after the boat drill).

PLEASE SOMEONE RECONFIRM THIS **

BUT HEY - if ya wanna a 30 minute get together (for example), please chime in and let me know as I plan on leaving CBR aound noon and should be at the port by about 1:15pm and plan on hitting the ground running shortly thereafter. and yes, if the vote is to have the DISmeets for 30 minutes, that's ok with me as well. The reason why I am thinking to have it for one hour is to give people the ability to come and go as they please and to arrive when they want; even it they are late coming onto the boat.

then again, if they come onto the boat at 5pm....that's bound to be a very long swim!

Q: ISN't the Muster drill something like at 4pm?? Please advise someone as its been a while for me.

ANYWHO -

Also, should anyone of you have to drop out of our cruise, please be kind & let me know so I can have an updated list as much as possible as my intention is to just have some DISney fun on this adventure and enjoy heading out to Key West for the very first time (I am a Jimmy Buffett nut), etc.

Ok - so whatz up with the weather issue??

Well, I am guessing that I just mmaayy be the odd person out here as for example when I was over in Ireland (june) by the Aaron Islands, the wind of the Atlantic was just a wipping around pretty fierce, etc.

I was taking video with my feet "X" amount of feet apart to keep from getting blown around and my back was against the rain (to shield the camera)....

the tour guide asked me if I was cold (I was wearing shorts) -

I replied:

NO;)

Now mind you the high temp of the day for 52 degrees with us right on the lip of the Atlantic ocean.
Weather was beautiful, so was the sights. loved every minute of it......

And besides,
there's nothing a "Hot Toddie" drink can't do to warm ya up later on in the evening.

Ok.....on a more sincere side, as we get closer to embarkation date, I don't mind posting various temps for the various shores we will be visiting:):) to better help all of of us in figuring out what to wear, pack, etc.

FYI - there is a time change for us when we arrive into Cozumel - please be sure and set yer clocks BACK one hour.

**** WELCOME ABOARD EVERYONE ****

ANYWHO -
I am in the middle of my diet for my upcoming Hawaii adventure (Late next month) but once I return, ANYONE who wants to join the ranks of being each others encourager and what not (list the pounds we have lost??), etc - feel free to post cuz I have got to return to dieting once again starting November 5th.

Will post pictures (HOPEFULLY) once I land my "four legged dieting partner and family member" but that dang word has to rule here:

patience (WHAT'S THAT??) -

To
SIR WILLIAM:

Hey - thanks for the suggestion about "Tastings" and such as I hope to sign up for some wine tastings and if not that, then tequila tasting but....I gotta remember:

NO BINGO PLAYING right after for atleast 1 hour!!:rotfl:.

All rightteeee - been real.popcorn::

T.T.F.N.

Meet ups: As I've said elsewhere, I'd like to meet up sometime after boarding but before the muster drill (afterwards is the Sailaway Party and we don't want to miss that). This way we could also pass out a list of everyone and their room numbers, especially for those participating in the FE so we could make any room change updates.

I also like the idea of setting up some additional meets occasionally. However, since there will some who have early seating and some who have late seating, meeting up in the evenings could be difficult for one or the other.

Weather - I just go with what happens and enjoy myself as much as possible. We just returned from a cruise to Alaska (not DCL though the Magic was tied up next to us at one port). Weather went from absolutely beautiful, to slightly cool (LS shirt and a polarfleece vest worked well), to cool and damp (well, very wet to be more accurate). When I was in both Ireland and Scotland two years ago, we had everything as well. I just try to be as prepared and adaptable as possible.

When we went on this exact same cruise earlier this year, our weather was so-so, though on the weeks on either side of us it was absolutely great. I'm hoping we'll be more fortunate this year and getting the usual, average, daily dose of sunshine.

For the FE...Our stateroom has been assigned. We're in 6101. I don't know if this will change though. I will update if it does. Thanks!

-----------------------------
will update all of ya about our January cruise DISmeets (this weekend) as I just NOW <DUH!!> realizing that this adventure is almost upon us.:goodvibes

Don't worry, I feel this is news that is long overdue (u know me, I am just a trying to be Mr. "Politically Correct" here;))

P.S. just got info in the mail about San Fran - hey has anyone been to the Walt Disney Family Museum or any other excursion out there?? What about the Winchester House?? Wine tasting?? Feel free to chime in via a posting if ya have.

SHORE EXCURSIONS CAN BEGIN TO BE BOOKED VERY SHORTLY (WHHAA!! I AM ONLY A SILVER GUEST)........

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

Anyone gonna be a Walt Disney World before the cruise??
