January 3, 2011 - 5 night Bahamas Sailing

It was incredible! I highly recommend the itinerary. We spent a day in Canterbury and a day in Dover pre-cruise and then two days in London post. We're fortunate that our girls are the ages they are (23, 17, 15) and that they all love to travel. One loved Norway (and still talks about it), One loved Berlin and one loved St. Petersburg. My wife and I both loved St. Petersburg. We did the Royal Cinderella Ball at Catherine's palace and I took the opportunity to dance with each of them.... I danced with all my daughters and my wife in Catherine's Royal Place... how many dad's can say that?
Thank-you DCL

That sounds AMAZING!! Out of all of the european cruises, that one looked the most unique and cool. I think I would really, really love to see Norway. What a great way to see that part of Europe -- on DCL!!! Great memories about dancing at the palace........You will certainly remember that when you are dancing with them at their weddings!!!

I emailed DCL a few days ago and received this response from them:

"At this time the schedule for removing the decorations has not been
announced."

It seems that much about this cruise is undecided! I suppose it has something to do with a comment that I read somewhere on these boards, that this cruise used to be a longer one and then was broken up into two shorter cruises. Is that true?

See you all soon!

Jan

I would be shocked if they left the decorations up. I think it will be highly unlikely. Jan, yes, it was a 10 night cruise that got broken up into two 5 night cruises.

I was kind of hoping it would be on the Friday (day 5). We have Plao booked for the Friday and was hoping to only bring one set of dressy outfits. Now I have to bring something for 2 nights. :headache:

Does anyone know if Pirate night is on Wed. ? I was assuming it was because it is our Nassau day but then I was wrong in assuming formal day was our sea day.

My TA asked about each night. Disney said that their is not a formal night on our cruise, that the Pirate night was Thursday night. It will be interesting to see what is planned for each night.:grouphug:
The TA also said they told her they would not have any decorations up.
:headache:

This just goes to show you that it differs with each person you or your TA talk to at DCL. I think a few things are throwing "wrenches" in the normal 5 night cruise plans - 1) it's on the Magic, and 2) we have a day at sea on the last day, rather than day 4 (this had to be done in order to make room at CC for the Wonder to be there on Friday Jan 7). Here's my guess, but I can only base this on our summer 5 night cruise (and on the Wonder):

Night 1 - Rotational menu
Night 2 - Rotational menu
Night 3 - Pirate menu/pirate night
Night 4 - Rotational menu - dress up night, whether it be formal, semi-formal, whatever
Night 5 - Til We Meet Again menu

Has anyone ever heard them do Pirate Night on a different night other than Nassau day on 3, 4, or 5 night cruises??? I think it would be highly unlikely, but DCL can certainly surprise us!

For those of you who did not book 11C GTY or with Kids Sail Free in Verandah cabins, just wanted to let you know that prices have dropped some for our cruise.

I stalk our cruise waiting and waiting for FLR rates......We'd really like to upgrade. ANYWAYS, it used to be 2A 1C in a cat 7A was $3000.16, and now, it is $2825.16. Not much of a drop, but a drop none the less. Looks like Disney is really having a hard time tryine to fill our cruise...........

You know it's empty when there are secret porthole and secret verandah rooms left this close to sailing!!!

Welcome to the cruise. Let me know if you and your wife are interested in participating in the FE.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the invitation to participate in the FE. We're going to pass this time, but don't any of you be surprised if you find some Utah highlights magnets on your doors.

Is there a cruise meet planned?

Is anyone running the Castaway Cay 5k?

Is anyone interested in sharing the costs for a private shuttle to and/or from the cruise port and airport?

Jeff

It looks like we are all being given different nights for this and that. Hopefully DCL will announce the rotation soon. :)

I have never been to Nassua and I know a lot of people seem not to like it.
Has anyone got plans of what they are doing ?.
We quite often dont make any plans for a port and usually get off and have a wander round the town, to get a feel of the place.
Is there a town quite close that you can do this ?. Alternativley can you just go to Atlantis and pay for a days admission ? and is it worth it ?.

It would be nice to find out what you are all doing :) :thumbsup2

The FE list has been updated.

I just emailed DCL again regarding the Decorations. I'm sure I will get the same responce as last time, but I would rather keep bugging them about it.

My money is on this

Night 1 - Rotational menu

Night 3 - Pirate menu/pirate night

Night 5 - Til We Meet Again menu

Nassau is pretty easy to get around. It's nice once you get past the first wave of peddlers. The town is right there just off the ship. Atlantis is a 20 minute taxi or water taxi ride away. I'd recommend the water taxi - it's nice. There are shops and a casino at the Atlantis that you can go to without paying anything. It's nice to walk around and look. The straw market is interesting if you like flea market type things.

We're thinking about going to the Ardastra Gardens. We'll probably do that and just walk around the shopping district. The Hard Rock is on our itinerary as well.

Dear Scott,

Thank you for your e-mail.

I would be happy to further assist you.

In reviewing our Reservation System, we have updated our information regarding the holiday decorations for our ships and terminal in Port Canaveral, FL.

Unfortunately, the decorations will not be included on the Disney Magic 5-Night Bahamas Cruise sailing on January 3, 2011.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further assistance with any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

We have the same issue, but, I was considering that I might still bring only one outfit. I mean, my kids wont notice or care, and frankly, though DH might notice, I dont think it would matter to him. He will think I am beautiful no matter what. :) And, I cant imagine anyone else on the boat will notice.

On the other hand, if I end up with room for two outfits, it will be fun to dress up twice. Im not going to worry about finding a second outfit though...

Jeff

I suggested a mini meet on the first day/afternoon for people with kids who might want to meet before going to the kids club. Im thinking something informal, near the Micky splash pool (cause we will all have our swimsuits on or in our carry on right?) But, I have not heard about any other formal meet up.

I plan to run the Castaway Cay 5k. It sounds fairly informal, but, an interesting way to see the island and to get a workout in! not sure if DH will. Depends on if we get kids club for the little one at that time.

Can someone tell me quickly the advantages to booking cruises while on board? Discount?
I realised 2012 is the year of our 15th wedding anniversay..so booking a med. cruise may be of interest to me.

Oh yes, you pay only 1/2 of the deposit (so 10% of the total cruise), you get 10% off the total of the cost of the cruise (before taxes/fees), and you get on board credit, depending on the length of the cruise.

We are booking on board for the Fantasy :goodvibes

the 10% does not include conciege level rooms. Not sure if we got the 1/2 deposit - but we paid $400 each deposit - but that was before the new way they are doing the deposit so I do not know how that effects any deposit :confused3

Thank you for the info. :)
I'm looking into crusies I may be interested in.

Is it true you can book one...but change the date later.
If its required.

Jeff,

I'll look thru the thread and find the info about the cruise meet. I had suggested 4pm on Deck 10 on the 1st day, but some people were concerned about the weather, and suggested somewhere different..... We did the deck 10 meet on our Aug cruise, and it worked out OK; it was during the Sail Away party so no one missed it, but it was hard to talk because the party was so loud....Anyway, I'll search thru the thread.

We definitely do not pack our swimsuit in our carry on - usually, we hit the pool on Nassau day.

I ran the CC 5K the first stop on our Aug double dip. It just took too much time out of enjoying CC, so I just went to the gym the other 3 mornings instead. The day I ran it was perfect weather - overcast & drizzly. I am still undecided about running it again, but am leaning towards no. I think by the time it was over, then breakfast & shower, we didn't get on to CC until 10-10:30, and being that we get DD back for a nap after lunch, it was not worth it when I can go to the gym at 6am :)

Yep, sure can. That is what a lot of people did to prepare for the 2012 cruises - they booked a random cruise date for sometime in 2011 (called a "dummy date"), and then just moved (or had their TA move) the date to the one in 2012 they wanted. On board booking benefits still apply:)

We will be booking the June 16 Fantasy cruise on board, and a dummy date. That way, if we decided to "add on" a cruise (like we did with this one!), we'll be able to have the on board booking benefits!

So, you will need to book a "dummy date" if you are looking at Med cruises for 2012, since they haven't released the rest of the 2012 schedules. That way, when they do release info for the Magic, you can just move your cruise booked on board to a Med cruise.

Apparently, the agent that is at the on board booking desk is familiar with people doing this, so it should be easy & no problem!

Great...thank you so much for your expertise. :)

This suggestion one seems to be less of a "DIS meet" and more of a kids meet. It's a great suggestion for those interested.

I noticed from the FE list there are a number of little girls age 4-6 in our group. I wonder if anyone might be interested in an early meet up to get them introduced? Maybe plan them to hit the kids club at the same time or meet at the pool on sail away day? My DD (5) is super outgoing but initially very shy. Im sure she would love to meet some friends. Im new to DCL, so not sure if this would be "too planned."

Here have been the suggestions for the DIS meet:

I suggest 4pm on Deck 10 before the Sail Away party. It may depend on the weather, since it will be January......

just a suggestion but could we possibly meet in the promenade lounge, maybe around 3.30-4pm and that would cover it if we had inclement weather?
