January 29, 2011 - 7 Day Eastern - WOOHOO!!

Sorry ..... What a sore winner I am.....:lmao: I know you are at school Spencer but sorry I couldnt keep 2100 from coming until you got home so figured I'd take one for the team!!! :thumbsup2 You can have 2121.

Speaking of horrible weather- Evan has another day off of school today due to snow, sleet/freezing rain. With being sick, this makes 1 full week that he has not been to school. He will only be back for 7 days before he is out again for our vacation and missing another 6!

We live in DC and got hit with the same storm. I was totally bummed when I got up this morning and saw that school was cancelled today. Although we were lucky in that the last several storms have hit all around us - we have been a little snow-free pocket!!:worship:

I know how you feel about missing school. My son was never sick and didn't miss anything in Pre-school, kindergarten or first grade. Last year (second grade), we pulled him out of school for three days around Thanksgiving so we could go to Disneyworld since we had to cancel our scheduled Spring Break trip because of my due date. Then we got hit with the worst storms on record and school was closed for weeks. And my son got strep throat, pneumonia, two sinus infections, broke his arm requiring numerous doctors visits and surgery, and an infected ingrown toenaail (more doctors visits). He missed TONS of school. I felt really guilty about the time we had pulled him out (which of course was before all of the illnesses and weather). It really made me think twice before pulling him out again for three days for the cruise. But I am hoping he will return to his normal healthy self (so far so good):thumbsup2

Our school district isn't TOO bad about kids missing school - at least compared to when we lived in Texas. But they don't send homework home before missed days so you can't make up the work when you are on planes, etc. And they don't require notes for excused or unexcused absenses until you have missed 14 days and we haven't made it there yet!! It is still a tough call on pulling kids out for vacations;) I would LOVE to take a cruise with the kids every year, but not sure that we can pull them out much more after this year. We'll see!

It is actually warmer here today, almost trying to rain. What a nice change yesterday we freezing more then normal, now we are above normal .Crazy weather I tell you.

I hate taking the kids out of school too but the school never say anything either. I just warn the teachers ahead of time. We usually pick a week that there is a P.D. and they are off so they only miss 4 days instead of 5. But this time we did that and my husband decided to at Universial on to our trip so now they are out 6 days .:sad2: Next year we will have one in high school so I don't think we will be taken anymore more winter tirps but you never know right.

Clearly I missed PAGES of fun. Couldn't believe when I logged on and saw how much was posted!!!

I have a really busy week too. My conference for tomorrow was cancelled which I am glad about., but still have a major meeting next week we are trying to prepare for. And of course my entire team is coming into town (we work all over the US and only see each other during travel or for meetings) so I invited them over for dinner. Which of course means I have to get my FE stuff off the dining room table and move my cruise packing staging area from the middle of the living room floor!! I wish I could just focus on getting ready for the cruise!!!

I FINALLY found dress clothes for everyone. Teeny little tux for the baby (just too cute to pass up).

Started checking the 10-day forecast for Cape Canaveral, Bahamas, and Virgin Islands - so far, looks pretty good!!

Finally figured out how to fix my one FE that didn't work out right (only took four more trips to Michaels and four ruined ones before I got it to work) so I am almost done with the FEs. Poor DH has listened to me brainstorm, vent, etc over my non-working FE project. After the cruise I can share the long list of problems!!!

Only things left are to have in-laws pick up a few baby items and nag DH to do the one thing on his to-do list which is get a van service to take us to and from the airport here and we are almost there..... Except for the packing but at least everything is in a pile in the living room and just needs to be organized/packed!!

Hope everyone is having fun on our last two weeks!!! Just think, in just 14 days we will be enjoying St. Martin and getting ready for Pirate Night:banana:

That is what we have...rain...although when the temp is in the high 20s it becomes freezing rain. So not even a fun snow day, just a yucky ice day!!!

We picked this week for the cruise for the same reason - kids are off Monday and Tuesday for a teacher work day so it is only 3 days. Plus it is the beginning of a new quarter so projects are due next week so we won't be trying to finish up projects early or miss the presentation day.

Holy cow! That's what I am worried about with DS! He hasn't missed any school yet this school year (knock on wood). I wanted a cruise while school was out but with the veranda kids sail free, we couldn't pass it up. Timing was pretty good as school goes. Last day of the semester is the 27th. School is out the 28th & the 3rd. 4 days out instead of 6 is good. I've spoke to his teacher & will get his work on the 27th. She said he's a real strong student & he will be fine. That made me feel better. In a couple of years it won't be as easy to miss a chunk of school...

My kids are jealous.....they are both good at school but are really happy when they get a day off!

I hope NOBODY has an event-filled year like we had last year!! We lived at the hospital. It is pretty bad when you go to the hospital cafeteria for lunch and people from various departments come up and know you by name and ask about everyone and the cafeteria staff think you are an employee!!!

Glad you will get the work ahead of time. I am hoping his teacher may bend the rules a little bit.

He is studying astronomy in school and because we live in such a major metro area, there isn't a lot of places he can see the stars - too much light or too many trees in the non-lighted places. I am planning on printing out the star charts and we will take advantage of being out at sea to have him actually SEE some of the stars. I also make him read every day (which isn't a problem) and have some journal pages that are actually decorative ones like you would use for a scrapbook for each day of the cruise so I am making him do a little journaling/writing. He was studying memories and different ways to capture memories last month. I am hoping when I show the teacher what we are already planning on doing and how it ties in with his current curriculum, she will go easy on what assignments he has to make up!!!

My son gets really stressed when he misses any school at all because they keep the work in a "make-up" folder in the classroom and when kids return, they have to do everything in the folder - and often miss recess to make it up!! I keep thinking that if it is this tough in 3d grade, it will be a nightmare when we hit junior high!!:scared1:

Boy we have been chatty the last day! ;) I log back on today and have PAGES to go through! I am SO ready for our vacation. With DD#2 being sick it has been a LONGGG couple of days. She finally slept in her own bed last night and stayed there, so I think we are on the upswing now. DD#1 keeps asking how many more days until the cruise?

For all of you have little girls....will any of them go on the waterslide? I am trying my hardest to get DD4 to go down it...but she doesn't even like REGULAR playground slides. I'm hoping maybe a little peer pressure would help! She says she will right now, but that is something I have to see to believe.

My dd is not fond of going down the slide either. I didn't make any difference to me. My son on the other hand loved it. My dd is older now and can swim so maybe she will try it again but when she was little no way.

Glad to hear your little one is gettng better. It is amazing how fast meds work on an ear infection.

and lets do the opposite poll as well

what day do people end their vacation - meaning they day they arrive at home?

for us is Tuesday February 8th - should be home in mid afternoon!

Oh you folks have been busy busy!

First off, the three things I am looking forward to:

1. Getting out of the horrible cold weather I am in;
2. Meeting my neice who I have not yet met (she is 3 months old);
3. Enjoying what cruising is all about and savoring every minute, this is my first time, I am a virgin! :dance3:

We officially leave this coming Sunday, January 23rd as we fly to Vancouver, BC and then on Monday we fly to Seattle and then to Orlando where we spend 4 magical days at the world. What a way to start the cruise experience!

We sadly come home on February 7th.

That is a lot of flying...Are you going to Vancouver to meet other family? Do they not have direct flights to Orlando .....

I am jealous that you get to hold an almost new baby. I love babies. I would have had more but I am lucky for the two I have. Lots of fertility drugs there and a 9 year wait. Now I am too old.

Oh the excitment of going on the ship for the first time, we still get excited when you go over the last bridge and can see the stack. It never gets old. :goodvibes

I'm not new to the board but I am new to this thread. You know my SIL, tink113, and I'm sure she has told you our information. Tonight I'll get back on and read through the thread and respond to people :) I can't wait for the cruise to get here :dance3:
