We presented the cruise to my MIL and FIL yesterday, Can't wait to meet you all!! :Pinkbounc

And we'll be excited to meet you and your family! :goodvibes

I'm glad it went so well. I know they'll love it. And you can tell them there will be lots of new friends to meet.

This thread is too quiet! So how is everyone doing? We need some action here! :bounce:

Hey all!

Well we're down to almost just 8 months left!

Has anyone thought about about excursions? I know I would like to do some of the ruins. I've heard good things about David & Ivan, but we don't go to Costa Maya - so I'm thinking of doing Disney's Tullum Ruins tour. Passporter gives their tour a 9.

The Island Tour & Butterfly farm on Grand Cayman sounds interesting too.

And...who is doing Palo Dinner? Palo Brunch?

The Jeep Safari sounds fun, the Stingray City tour in Grand Cayman sounds fun too.........I know my kids would love the turtle farm too but I did not see only that as an option, I guess when it get closer and we actually pay it off, I can start really delving in deeper. On CC we will just rent snorkel equipment this time. Last time we did the family Getaway package and ended up not using the floats nor the bikes. The kids loved the snorkeling so they pretty much did that all day long. In Key West, I think we will wing it and just walk around.

I am going shopping next week for a nice dress for a June wedding, was thinking maybe I could wear it again on formal or semiformal night on our cruise.........I think I still have two sundresses that I took with us in Februay that I ended up not wearing since the weather was a little chilly.

My MIL is trying to figure out how much weight she can lose in 8 months and I have almost hit the 10 pound mark, only 18 more pounds to go until GOAL! I know I can do it and when I do, i am so buying a two piece swimsuit to wear on our cruise

Actually, haven't given much thought yet to excursions ...

On the Eastern cruise, we did the bus tour of St. Maarten. Nice, but we probably should've gone to the beach instead.

I'm really looking forward to Key West - anything in particular that is a good tour or activity there??

Palo was nice - did it last time to celebrate my 40th. Can't say I'm dying to do it again though.

Oh, and for anyone interested, we have some pics of our last cruise on our website:

We haven'y really given much thought about excursions either.

The passporter that your all are talking about does it give any more info about excursions than on the Disney website? Is it similar to the Burnbaums guide to WDW?

As far as Palo not sure if we will do that or not. My wife doesn'y really care for that type of food.

We took this same cruise (almost) this past January. (We went to Nassau instead of Cozumel.) We did all our excursions on our own, rather than book through Disney.

For Key West, we looked around a bit and then took the Old Town Trolley Tour. One of the nice things about their tour is that you can get on and off as much as you like to visit the local attractions. The tour guides have a basic script they work off (with some embellishments of their own), so you can pick up the the tour wherever you left off and not miss any information. We also went to Pirate Soul Museum, which was quite cool. (www.piratesoul.com) we also went to the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum. Yes, we have a pirate lover in our group. I think this time we're planning to go visit the Southernmost Point. www.historictours.com/keywest has good information on some of the sites of Key West.

Out next stop was Grand Cayman. We booked through Captain Marvin's (www.captainmarvins.com) and did the Stingray City snorkel and snorkeling in another location. Then we tacked on their Island Tour with stops at Hell, Grand Cayman and the Turtle Farm. The kids really got a kick out of seeing the turtles. They do have the option of just the island tour with stop at the turtle farm without the stingray visit. My kids were 3, 6, and 10 during our trip. I held the 3 y/o during the stingrays, but she was the first of the kids to touch one. The 10 y/o loved snorkeling, but tried to climb to DH's head when the stingrays came by. The 6 y/o doesn't have strong swimming skills, but he enjoyed both areas.

In Nassau we did the Dolphin Encounter. I've heard the same company is located in Grand Cayman. It was a really neat experience. Be warned though, they sell pictures and videos that look wonderful, but aren't cheap. We all had an opportunity to feed, touch, kiss, and hug the dolphin. DD3 has now fallen in love with Dolphins--she was the bravest of all three kids. We also walked around The Atlantis hotel. Nice, pretty and very expensive.

Castaway Cay we just sort of hung out. DD10 did some snorkeling, but the weather was a bit cool, so she didn't do it very long. We spent quite a bit of time at Grouper's Game Pavilion. I bought some of those rashguard swimsuits for the kids to wear this time. They look like they would be a little warmer, but maybe not with having more fabric to stay wet.

Of course our activities will be a bit different this time, since we'll have our "souvenier" from our last cruise with us this time. A few weeks after we returned from the cruise this past January, I found out I am pregnant with #4, so we'll have an infant with us. We've affectionately named it "pixie dust," until we find out what sex the baby is.

This time, we're also bringing my parents, DH's mom, and one of my friends booked rooms for her family, too.

I'm definately looking forward to this cruise! :woohoo:

The Passporter is much better than Burnbaums guides, but it IS similar in concept. Burnbaums has a Disney cruise guide that's 224 pages. The Passporter is 300 pages. Passporter also has a website with a chat room similar to the DISboards, though not quite as many people chat there. The authors of the Passporter frequent those boards and have quite a bit of experience cruising and are very good about answering questions. I like the Deluxe Edition of the Passporter. It comes in a leather covered, ringed binder, so you can buy refills when future editions come out. There aren't as many pictures as Birnbaums, but there are a lot of nice diagrams and suggestions. I originallly was just going to buy the refill, but I ended up buying a whole new deluxe edition book when the fourth edition came out.

Arranging excursions on your own will almost always save you quite a bit of money. The only drawback (and it's a BIG one) is that if you do that and IF for ANY reason are late getting back to the ship (transportation breakdown/delays, traffic jam, anything) the ship will sail without you and you will have to get to the next port at your own expense. When you book excursions through Disney, the ship will wait for you if you are delayed.

For that reason I'm probably going to stick to Disney excursions. IF we'd have gone to Costa Maya I'd have been very tempted to try David & Ivan's tour for Chacchoben Ruins as they get so many positive comments.

For Key West I think I want to go the southernmost point. However, I'll go with the flow on that one since if I truly wanted - I could go another time since I live in Florida. I have heard that doing the trolley in Key West is good since as you stated - you can get off and on when you please.

And wow - am I ever glad we are going in January!!! We are supposed to hit record high heat here today. (we did yesterday). Just under the 100 degree mark. I'm melting...I'm melting.... :sunny:

Hi Everybody!! I think we'll just go for walks in Key West and probably the Trolley Tour. Not planning on anything for Cozumel - most DISers seem to be commenting that there is so much damage still from the hurricane - especially damage to the beaches that it seems like it might not be worth it. As for Grand Cayman, we'll probably do Captain Marvin's Stingray tour.

We're planning on doing Palo dinner on Tuesday evening and brunch on Thursday. We'll see what we can get once it comes time to making reservations :cool1: My MIL is getting excited as well - she came up for a visit this weekend and I gave her the book that came with the DVD. She also had a look at the Passporter - she now says that she always wanted to go on a cruise but didn't tell anyone. Glad to hear it!!

Oh yeah, one question - does anyone know where to buy wine/liquor in Key West?? I posted this question on the main board but only 1 person replied - hope you veteran cruisers can help me out!!

Hope everyone is doing well - we have a long weekend here but the weather has been cold & rainy - not great with a house full of kids. :rotfl2:

I have a running list of tips and suggestions that people have written on these boards. Just the other day I read a post about Key West and wine, it was probably yours........ :rotfl2: The place to buy wine in Key West is the Key West Winery...........they supposedly have a website thekeywestwinery.com :goodvibes

The Brunswick Family husband George age 41, myself Dantzler (now the official old Mom - lol age 45) and DD Catherine age 3 look forward to cruising with all of you and your Pal Mickeys. This will be our first Disney cruise although we have cruised for the last two years just on different lines. What can I say except that we are enjoying our DVC and decided to cash in our points for a cat 11. We are also planning to do the brunch and dinner at Palo. We have the early seating at dinner and would love to have anyone of you at the table with us. If interested please let us know. Also we will be staying at the POLY pre and post cruise for 1 night. If interested in getting together there please let us know.

WELCOME! Thank you for sending me your information. I have added you to the cruiser list and to the first post of this thread, as well as to our cruise thread on the MDC. I would like to extend a special welcome to your Pal Mickey for joining us as well! :teeth:

We are so happy to have you all with us! :cool1:

Wo-hoo - hello to our new CruiseMates!

By this weekend, our cruise will be 7 months away. :cheer2: Okay...that still sounds far but it was a LOT further away when we booked it. :lmao: (and that's 3 smilies before I've really said much...trying to wake up here)

Any way - a BIG welcome!

When is departure at Key West?

I believe 'watching the sunset' is a big KW attraction, so I'm wondering if we'll be around on land to witness it. Of course, it can still be seen from the ship!

Unless they change it, departure from Key West should be 9:30 p.m., or at least that is the time everyone has to be back onboard.

There is a website that gives sunrise and set times for locations that you can enter. I plugged in Key West for January 28th and the sun will set that day at 6:10 p.m.

Sun and Moon Data for One Day

The following information is provided for Key West, Monroe County, Florida (longitude W81.8, latitude N24.6):

Begin civil twilight 6:47 a.m.
Sunrise 7:11 a.m.

Wow!

Great responses. Looks like we'll have the opportunity to do the Key West 'sunset.'

Remind me again ...

As a Castaway Club member (previous cruiser), when can I make reservations (palo, shore excursions, etc) - 90 days prior to sailing? 75?

I know concierge gets first crack, followed by CC members then first time cruisers.
