JANUARY 27, 2007 "PAL MICKEY" Western Magic ROLL CALL

I am trying to plan my Pal's wardrobe for the cruise. For shoes, I had figured his leather sandals, Skechers sneakers, and summer flip-flops would suffice. Then I realized I forgot about his shoes for formal nights! I may be trimming my own wardrobe to allow more space for his. :rotfl2:

Hmmm . . I figured I should bump up this thread so anyone who may have just booked our cruise can find us! :boat:

How cute is he! I love it!

I have my kids clothes planned for every dinner. All 5 kids in our group will match most of the nights, it should be really cute!

Well, TODAY the cruise ticker says "10 Months" - Hooray!

I found an outfit I would like for Pirate Night. pirate: So I'm glad a few others will dress up a bit. Always have that fear that I'd be the ONLY one....

Our cruise list is really growing!!!

My kids will be very piratey pirate: pirate: pirate: I will be wearing a black skirt and big earrings, bigger hair, more make-up than normal. All together it will be obvious we are pirates pirate: pirate: pirate:

Is anyone on here doing the Palo Brunch or the dinner?
I am! Well, at least brunch again. Have not decided about dinner this time.

Nice pic, but where's the rest of it? JK :goofy:

We plan on doing both brunch and dinner at Palo. Brunch on the first day at sea and dinner on semi-formal night. Is this how people usually do it?? I'm such a newbie .. :rotfl: We are definitely dressing up for pirate night - life's too short and you might as well enjoy it the only time around!! I'm so excited and am finding it hard not to talk to my DD5 about the cruise all the time!! :yay:

WHAT rest of it? :rolleyes1

Okay....okay....I cropped that photo! But hey - I have lost five more pounds since that was taken. I am getting there slowly but surely. :woohoo:

As for Palo dinner - I'd like to try it - but as we've joked offline - not just together with you. I'd go with a few other people from our cruise. (reasoning being is that many consider Palo a more "romantic" setting)

You keep losing weight and I'll keep shooting pics, and you should soon feel like posting without cropping - LOL. You're looking great, REALLY!

So true about Palo. Now if we find a couple of GUYS willing to accompany us just for dinner, that would be even better! :teeth:

Although we have already booked, DH is considering whether to fly in the day before :confused3 There is always a possibility of nasty weather (winter in Canada - who'd have thought!?!) that could delay our flight(s) and we might miss the boat (so to speak). What are your thoughts/opinions/2 cents worth - let me know!!

Although I'm not flying (live an hour from the port), I STRONGLY advise you to fly in at least the night before! You never know about airline situations, airports, weather, unforeseen events. Not only for those reasons, but you will be completely exhausted by dinner time if you have to get up and fly in that morning. Sure, it's better than not cruising at all, but why add stress if you can avoid it?

I'm going to echo Taswira's advice - DEFINITELY fly in the day before. Yes, you'll have to pay for a hotel room, but that money will be well worth it to reduce the stress of possibly missing the boat! Plus it is true, if you do come in the day before you won't have to get up so early to make a flight and won't fall asleep in your peas. (or chocolate souflee) :sunny:

I also live within a reasonably short driving distance from the port, but I used to live up in NH. So I know from experience how bad weather can mess up travel plans. January is PRIME snowstorm weather. Even if you had to pay $100 or $150 for a hotel room, that would be well worth it in my opinion to not have to stress about delayed flights, cancelled flights, snowstorms, icestorms and such. Heck, you don't even have to have a snow or ice storm in YOUR area - it could be elsewhere - it doesn't take much to mess up the entire system!!! You may still hit a delay or storm - but at least you have a day to play with. Hit one when you don't have that day- well you truly could miss the sailing and miss your entire cruise which you've been planning for over a year. (by the way, travel insurance is important!)

Then you can get to the port early and say hello to us! We'll be waiting for you to welcome you.

Thanks for the advice!! I'm not sure what we were thinking - considering the weather, travelling with small kids, etc. So I've gone ahead and made a hotel reservation and now that is one less worry... no problem with DCL moving our flight to one day earlier - the CM couldn't have been more helpful. Whoohooo!!! Thanks again...

My daughter and her cousin literally fell asleep in their peas last time. We got up at 4am to catch an early flight and ended up sitting on the runway for 4 hours before taking off. Even though we still had plenty of time when we got there to make the boat, I would have preferred spending the afternoon getting aquainted with the ship. When we got to dinner, both kids fell asleep immediately at the table.

Needless to say, we will be flying down at least the day before this time! :hourglass

Binky,

I'm so glad you did that! It'll save you so much in peace of mind that it'll be well worth it. It'll be easier on the kids AND you.

I don't have to fly down as I live near - but I'm taking at LEAST the day before off. (probably will do a couple so I can get a Disney fix beforehand and extend my vacation). This will be one of my first REAL vacations in a long time. Thought I can't say I've not vacationed...I did get to go to the AK Lodge with Taswira for a Pal Mickey Reunion .... but generally every trip before that was a working trip that I added a day or two extra onto. (I do metaphysical retreat/workshop trips). THIS one will be JUST to relax and vacation!!!!!!

This one I'm putting aside money for massages and stuff I normally don't get to do.

Hey - There were two "Pal Mickey vacations" you did with me - AK Lodge in May and Coronado Springs in October. Of course that second one got disturbed by the potential hurricane. :furious:

Yes "binky1," we are so GLAD that you and "oldmom" are both arriving prior to cruise departure day. It will make such a difference in your enjoyment of the first day on the ship. :thumbsup2

We flew in the day of our cruise this Feb, after that we will always do the day before travel. We had late dinner seating and by the time dinner rolled around, we were so beat, my DD6 fell asleep at the table, poor thing. We flew out of VA and had a nonstop flight but it was at 6:30am in the morning, so we had to be at the Richmond airport by 5:30am. We got to Orlando early enough, 9:00am but by the time you get on the bus and transferred to the port from the airport and then wait for boarding (we boarded at about noon), its already a long day.

This time, we have made arrangements through Disney to arrive the day before and stay at the Hyatt. It will be nice to get to the port awake and ready to enjoy our first day aboard the MAGIC! Plus, we have early dinner seating this go around :cool1:

There is a ton of other reasons to fly in the day before, most are mentioned in other posts but this was our reason! Enjoy!

Yes, we had to leave at a horrendously early hour last year to fly from Ottawa to WDW. I think our flight left here at 7 a.m. and since it's considered an international flight (!) we had to be there for 5:00 a.m. and we got to POFQ by around 3 p.m. It made for a very long day for all of us. My DD (4 at the time) had short little catnaps throughout the day and she was in a much better mood than both DH and myself!! :wave2:

Anybody else realized that our cruise leaves one week before the 2007 Super Bowl and that we return to port the DAY BEFORE the game!!!!!!!! and... The game is in Miami!!! I discovered this today as we always stay at the Hyatt in the airport the night before the cruise and they are already showing it as NOT AVAILABLE!! We are really disapointed as it is so convienient to stay there. Now we will have to find something else close to the airport or over near the port. Anybody have any suggestions???
