January 2025 Check In Thread!

I just booked a trip for January 24-27. I haven't been in January in years, so hopefully it's as low-key as I remember. Also hoping it won't rain!

We're staying at Hyatt Regency because I have points for free nights. I've never stayed there and it seems so far away from the park but they have a reliable shuttle and hey, it's free!

Welcome! We love a good deal in my house, enjoy your free lodging!

@Pluto468 - Did you make it to DLR for your whirlwind holiday trip or did you move your trip to January? I will be at DLR that same weekend as you in January. It's my birthday and I am taking my daughter this time. She has way more patience then my son so we will do lots of rides this trip!

@MissMindy1984 ~ We had to reschedule! My daughter got sick a few days before we were supposed to leave. I was so bummed. Hopefully this trip works out!

DH and I just booked our trip today for our anniversary! 1/30 - 2/02 at the Sheraton Park Hotel.
It’s been just over 18 months since our last DL trip, looking forward to it!

Welcome! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

We'll be joining. Jan. 9th-Jan 12th with park days 10th & 11th. Been during this time oh some 24 years ago. It was extremely wet & cold during the same dates January 2001. However, it was a blast! Lots of hot chocolates & coffees. Rain proof boots & rain jackets for the win. We like the rain. Don't know where we're staying at. Hopefully, I'll have that figured out today.

Welcome! I agree, Disneyland in the rain can be a lot of fun. My favorite picture from Disney is my young daughter (14 years ago) splashing in a puddle, completely alone on the street in DCA.

I know sometimes when on vacation people don't pay attention to the news. If you are unaware, there are multiple fires in Los Angeles.

If anyone is planning on visiting Universal Studios Hollywood, they are closed today. https://www.universalstudioshollywood.com/web/en/us

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed today as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions. We will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.

Absolutely heartbroken and devastated about the wildfire fires. Know the areas well due to growing up in Los Angeles & Orange Counties.

Last night and this morning we talked about the possibility of canceling our trip. Last night it was 25% cancel. Today it’s 50%. Going to make the call tonight or tomorrow morning as we are suppose to arrive tomorrow night.

Looking this morning, lots of ADRs have opened up for our dates for all party sizes. Might be a good indicator that others are cancelling their trips.

I'm keeping a close eye on the fires because I have a lot of people in LA. I'm not going until the 20th but I'm starting to explore alternative options... I know the fires are way north, but there's something about flying to a disaster zone for vacation that feels inherently wrong. I had a trip to Mexico City that ended up being 5 weeks after the big earthquake there back in 2017, and I remember my taxi driving me through a neighborhood where houses had crumbled. I ended up making a donation to a local organization supporting the victims, but...

It's terrible. I lived in the Santa Monica area for 8 years and it's devastating seeing the destruction. I just saw that the Will Rogers house is gone :( I used to go there to walk all the time.

I think you're right that many people are canceling. Even though the fire isn't near Disneyland, the fires are effecting everyone in the area and of course the airports are probably having problems.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure it's a tough one.

If you are flying into SNA, you won't be close to the current fires. If you are flying into LAX, you may see the dark hills from the sky but, as things are now, you won't see anything on the ground from LAX to Disneyland.

Wife and I will be there Friday through Sunday. Its going to be weird trying to have a good time with the fires going on and cast members likely affected.

I know what you mean. My trip isn't for two weeks but I'm considering canceling even though the fires will hopefully be out by then.

Unfortunately American wouldn’t let us change the flights more than 5 days without penalty (5 days change is nice of them) but that schedule wouldn’t work for us. So I’ll have to do my best to enjoy myself without being disrespectful.

Wow, I'm surprised they didn't change their policy due to the extraordinary circumstances.

One thing to consider regarding the fires is that canceling can negatively impact a lot of people financially. I know because we had a huge fire some years back and those people who were still in business were sometimes hurt more than the ones whose places burned.
