January 2015 Car Rental Code Watch

I booked a mid sized car at Alamo using the Costco code and no coupon because we don't have a Sat. overnight stay, our trip is Sun-Sat. Total was $149 and includes an additional driver. I booked it on Sept 4 and now the price has jumped up to $229.

This past summer I booked the rental car far in advance and got the best rate, it never went lower, only higher. I wouldn't wait to book something, you can cancel and rebook if you can find a lower rate.

Subbing :-). I just booked with Alamo for more than I really want to pay...$334 for 7 days in January. I have $300 "budgeted"! But I'd rather have something than nothing. We've always had good luck with Alamo. We did the Magical Express earlier this year and hubby prefers to drive himself, even if that means the car sits in the resort parking lot for 7 days!

I'm looking to rent a minivan the last week of January and can't believe how high the rates are! This is our first trip renting a car so I'm on the lookout for any tips or discounts and figured this was a good thread to get in on. :)

This thread got me to looking at the prices as we decided that we will need to rent something, and I couldn't believe how high the prices are!!! :crazy2:

We will need something big enough for 6 people-

would it be cheaper to rent 2 smaller vehicles?? Do prices really go down after the holidays for a Jan ressie? Seems to me they wouldn't :confused3

*We only want to rent from MCO to the car care center for 2 days, then a possible taxi or rental back to MCO...still need to price it all out*

So happy to find this thread. Doing vacation a little different this year. I need a vehicle for 6 Fab Ladies turning 50 in 2015, We're flying into FLL Jan 30th-Feb 6th

Subbing in here to see what things are looking like. We always go in January and have had mostly great luck with getting really cheap cars. Last year was the highest I've paid and that was still only about $150 for a full-size for a week. Hoping to get that or even less if we go back next January.

Thanks!!

Through Alamo using Costco ID 7014627 and Coupon AF5365ODH for a free day a midsize is $184 inc taxes with free additional driver. Sign up for free Alamo Insiders and get a free upgrade to a fullsize.

thank you!! I just booked the midsize for our trip. Fingers crossed, that I am able to find something a tad cheaper.

Just booked an Alamo standard (full) size for $205. Dates Jan 20-27. Used Costco ID 7014627 and $30 off coupon AD2338FDF.

Could have saved a couple more dollars using the VROOM ID 299851. But, I'm not sure I want to take a chance on only saving $2. If it was a huge difference... maybe.

I'm comfortable with paying these prices for the convenience of using Alamo, but will continue to look and hope to get an even better deal.

Are people using the Costco code actually Costco members? Is that a chance I should be taking?

We're actually doing a Houston trip for my DH's 50th bday the first week of January and my SIL said she had to book December 31st as the first day to get the lower December rate and then call to change her dates to keep the lower rate. Has anyone tried this?

It's crazy expensive right now. :faint:

I joined over the summer because even paying for the membership saved me more than I could with any other codes on my car rental. I do not have a location that's convenient, so I don't go often, but you can also shop online. I did go to Costco for my flu shot, cheaper than anywhere else. Good deals on eye glasses too. Totally worth joining IMHO.

I'm in kind of the same prediciment, I actually got a really good rate on a car from Jan 17-25, we are now flying in on the 16th. I'm not sure if I can add a day on the front end without the rates going up? If I try to do it online, it wants to reset everything at the higher rate. I guess I need to call, but I hate making these kinds of calls!

Thanks! I used this deal for a compact for 7 days in Savannah for $183. I am a Costco member. It was cheaper to book at alamo.com with these codes than it was to book through the Costco website.

Looking for a car 1/9 - 1/18. Rates are crazy high right now. I booked Alamo compact using the Costco codes listed earlier for $271 - just to have something. I am hoping to find a much better rate and cancel this one.

I'm seeing crazy high rates right now too. $800+ for a minivan with a major company 1/20-31. The cheapest I could find is Fox for $400 and I really don't want to use them.

I need a rental from MCO for 1/1 - 1/8 and I can't believe how absolutely CRAZY the rates are. I'm sure they will go down before my trip but I have never seen them this high a few months out. I did try the 299851 (vroom) code for Alamo and found a Ford Edge for $276 which is almost $400 cheaper than any other car I can find. (Even compacts are over $500)

I have tried to search for info on this code and can't really find any. I don't want to use a code I'm not eligible for and I'm not sure why the Edge is so much cheaper than anything else... can anyone explain what the vroom code is :confused3 Is everyone eligible for it ????

I just tried Alamo with Contract: 299851 with Coupon Code: AU3z64sdg which reduced the total from $271 to $231 for 9 days, while upgrading us from compact to midsize. I reserved it and cancelled the previous reservation, but I'm really looking to get below $150.

Rates are really high right now. The best I can do right now for my Jan trip is Alamo Id 299851 and coupon ad2338fdf. This gives you a decent rate on a full size crossover. I went ahead and made a resi to be safe. I am still hoping that Costco runs the great Black Friday special that they did last year. Those were great deals!

I'm a serious rule follower, not to mention a scaredy cat! I put in this contract ID and coupon code and it brought me down from $340 to $181. I don't want any surprises at the airport. Looks like these are Alamo discounts? Can someone take away my fear?

Traveling 1/15 - 1/20 and just used the KLM National code (I followed the rules and joined their club) and my reservation went from $391.00 to $221.00 for a week rental of mid-size (emerald isle).

Not bad for a rental over a holiday weekend.
