January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Just checking in on all of my old snowbird friends! Lots of new faces joining in on the January fun! I'm bummed because our trip-that-wasn't-meant-to-be would be coming up soon. I priced the trip just a minute ago and could have gotten a great deal at the Poly for 7 nights with the 4/3 deal.

Hope you are all getting your plans in order. ADR's are set, I'm sure!

Pregnancy is still doing well. Bed rest is no more, thankfully. I've been up and around the last couple of weeks and it has made life much better. I'm just past the 35 week mark and am looking forward to meeting our baby boy on November 12th!

Can't wait to start planning our Disney trip for 2011!

Mindy! :goodvibes So nice to hear from you girl! Glad to hear that you are up and about and that little turkey is treating you a bit better! :cool1: If you want to find out where the rest of the "original snowbirds" are hanging out, check this link -

Nice to hear from you Mindy! I'm so happy things are going well for you. You must be so excited to meet your new son! Stay in touch and post a picture after he arrives please! I'm going back in Dec. so I'm not a Jan snowbird anymore, but the Snowbird chat thread is great!

Whole family is headed to Disney World the last week of January. 22 of us will leave from Omaha, Nebraska and spend a week at Disney World! A little bummed that Splash Mountain will be closed for rehab, but I'm sure we'll have an awesome time! Can't wait.

I booked our ADR's this week

We arrive Friday January 8th in the evening at like 6pm. We are staying at the treehouse villas at Saratoga Springs.

Sat Jan 9th Breakfast reservation at LTT before the MK opens. Dinner at Coral Reef
Sun Jan 10th Dinner at Ohana
Mon Jan 11th Dinner at Le Cellier(grown ups only:thumbsup2)
Tues jan 12th Dinner at Sci Fi in HS
Wed Jan 13th Dinner at Kouzzina at the Boardwalk
Thurs Jan 14th Dinner Tusker House
Fri Jan 15th back to reality:sad2:

I really didn't want to do CRT..it is so expensive and not worth it in my opinion but I really like going into the MK before park opening at like 730 and eating breakfast and heading into the park at rope drop..Crystal Palace is closed while we are there..now I just found out that LTT is having breakfast while CP is closed so I will probably switch our ressie to that.

I am excited to chat about our upcoming trip.:thumbsup2

Took a break from grading papers in study hall......

Here is the tentative ADR plan; no dining plan. What do you think?

1/22--CRT breakfast; Kouzzina dinner (may change to something at EPCOT)
1/23--DHS EMH, lunch at Brown Derby; CS at MK for dinner
1/24--Dinner at Raglan Road; may try a low-key (non-char) breakfast; CS at EPCOT (probably).

Last night I tried to "book" CRT on it's farthest out day--1/16. At 9 PM, I could still get a 9 AM breakfast. So, with calling at 6 AM, my confidence is growing for getting the breakfast. However, if I don't, this will get tossed in the air as we are going to try for each morning if we have to.

Now back to grading papers.....

My wife and I are surprising our 13 and 15 year old girls. The 6 and 10 year old boys will get theirs in a few years. We are coming in late the 15th and leaving the afternoon of the 20th.

4 days of PH tickets.

ADR's 16th 9:00am Ohana's, 6:55pm Le Cellar
17th ? 7:00pm Chef Mickeys
18th ? 7:00pm Fultons Crab House
19th ? 7:00pm Sci-Fi

Everything else will be surprises for us all!!

HI, we've changed from POP to FOFQ (where we stayed before) and you change us up on the list - Disney4nonah (jan 19-26, 2010)

Because of the promo we could upgrade! woohoo...

Love reading all of your guys ADR plans, it's helping me decide. :D

Has anyone been in January before? What should I expect? I've never visited in the middle of winter before. :confused3

Has anyone been in January before? What should I expect? I've never visited in the middle of winter before. :confused3

We were there this past January 2009! Coming from Northern Ontario it was way warmer than at home for us mid winter! However...Orlando just happened to be having a record breaking cold snap the week we were there! :scared1:

I believe one morning it was about 35 degrees Farenheit! :scared1: One day (the 21st I think), it stayed pretty cold ALL DAY! We were at DHS that day and all though all rides (except TSM) were pretty much a walk on most of the day, we were wearing hats and mitts pretty much all day!

It did warm considerably over the next couple of days and over the weekend the temps even got into the high 70s low 80s! Expect to have a variety of weather possibilities! We packed a little of everything! We had shorts, T's, long sleeves, jeans, capri's sweaters and even jackets, hats and mitts! We used it all too! We even went swimming a couple of times! :)

Crowd wise, it was fine for us! I hadn't been to WDW in nearly 15 yrs (pre FP) so I really wasn't sure what to expect. We really didn't have any complaints! The most we waited for any ride was about 35 mins and that was for TSM on standby @ 9am on a Fantasmic Day! We didn't see any of the big tour groups that everybody else seemed to see at that time either! :confused3 Maybe I was just too focused on my own fun and didn't notice!

We did Rope Drop for every park every day and used FP extensively and were able to ride tonnes of rides in a single day! On our first day at MK we rode all of Fantasyland (except for Snow White and Philharmagic) AND pretty much ALL of Fronteirland AND Adventureland BEFORE noon! This was after eating breakfast in the Castle!

Here is alink to my TR from last January! I think it is closed to comments now but I believe you can still read it!

Hopefully it will give you a bit of idea of what to expect in January!

January is great. My biggest tip for January is to bring every type of clothing. Some days it may be highs in the 50's and lows in the upper 30's, other days it may be 80's. Most evenings you will need jackets and sometimes even hats and gloves. The temps fluctuate A LOT! The crowds are reasonable (I never say Disney has low crowds anymore). We have experienced mostly sun in January (not a lot of rain). It may not be warm enough to swim unless you are willing to brave it a bit. But the pools are heated if you want to give it a try. Just dress in layers and make sure to have a jacket with you in the evenings for sure. Have a great trip. I'm thrilled to leave the cold dreary January of Kansas for sunshine and Disney World.

Just a quick pop in this afternoon! Can't stay and play ;)

:welcome: to all the new faces! I'll get you added to the list and make changes to all of those who were able to upgrade because of the 4/3

Jan weather last year was a mixed bag. I'm packing pretty much everything this time around- pants, shorts, light jackets, etc.

Andrea- your Maui pics are gorgeous!!!! :cloud9:

We did January last year for the second time. My hubby and I went in 1996 when we first met and the weather was FREEZING:scared1: It actually got into the 30s at night. (there was a big blizzard in the northeast).

Last January when we went (january 5th we arrived). The weather was beautiful!! It was mostly 70's during the day..we were in shorts and capris with a light jacket at night for me and the kids (hubby was fine without it). The day we left we noticed a big change in temp as it was only 58 for the high. It was warm enough to swim in the beginning of our trip but towards the end it got too cold for me.. My husband and oldest daughter swam when it got cold...even though he didn't want to..he was a real trooper.

Last year when we went we drove so we had our winter coats and hats and gloves with us but now we are flying and I am hoping that I can leave them home..otherwise they will be hard to pack. I plan to bring clothes in layers so we should be fine. We also have a washer and dryer in our treehouse which makes it a little easier cause you can bring less.

Aksivers..are you doing Deluxe dining plan?? thats a lot of restaurants.:thumbsup2

we did it last October when we went and we really enjoyed it.
