January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

ok, so we are going jan 21-25, if it were you, would you purchase the hoppers to avoid the parks with fantasmic and spectro and then just go into those parks on those evenings? I just don't know what to do, I really wanted to see these two shows since we didn't see them last time we went. But then I didn't want to fork over the extra money for hoppers either.....hmmmm. We arrive at MCO on the 21st at 10:10 am and depart MCO at 3:30 on the 25th. So which park would you do on arrival day?

We are use to going in the middle of the summer so how does it really compare?

I hate paying for the hoppers too, however, I hate being stuck in a crowded park all day even more! We will purchase hoppers this visit so that we can hop to HS to take in Fantasmic, but will spend the day elsewhere. Same with Spectro.

Epcot or AK would be good choices for your first day - MK has morning EMH, so I'd stay away. HS has Fantasmic so it will fill up, which leaves Epcot and AK as good choices. I'd do Epcot, then take the boat over to HS for Fantasmic. Of course, Fantasmic also runs on Sunday the 24th. That might be a good evening to go, as people without hoppers may head instead to MK for the day, because of evening EMH. To be honest, I'm always second-guessing myself with this stuff!

We always go in January and love it. Crowds are generally low and I think the longest we've waited in line was about 20 minutes for Soarin in the middle of the afternoon! Fantasmic might be another story though - last time we saw the show it was on every night, so I'm not sure what to expect in January. Perhaps someone else can clue us in!

Woo Hoo....UG changed our days too. Most of the 5 days have now changed to 4's, the rest of the days have stayed the same. We are there from the 7th-16th.

This past January, we were at HS the day after Fantasmic and a CM told us the park (the day before) was nearly as bad as Christmas!:scared1: I’m sure they exaggerate a bit but we wanted no part of those crowds.;)

Me either, no thanks!

In 2004, we went back to WDW after many years. I didn't know about EMH and all of that. We were only there for 4 days. Our *one* day in MGM was a nightmare because it turned out to be an early opening day (and we stayed at Riverside, but had no clue about it). We only went on like 3 rides and then had to leave because we had ADRs at LTT in MK. I swore that something like that would never happen again if I had any control over it. It's just too disappointing & aggravating.

BTW, the week I'll be there, I think they're only showing Fantasmic twice. Sunday 1/17 and Thursday 1/21. You won't find me in DHS those days. And it's a good thing that we've seen Fantasmic before or else I might have had to go for my boys' sake. ;)

Hey January goers,

Me and my daughter will be there Jan 22 - 25th, staying at AKL for the first time (can't wait). Only doing a short time because its really for a gymnastics meet that will be at Wide World of Sports. :thumbsup2

I would like to know this too!!!

What is it and where do I find it!

Thanks in advance

Kelly

too funny! Cuz I was gonna post the same question! Until i looked right next to my computer and saw my "Unofficial Guide to WAlt Disney World" it is the unofficial guide web site. good luck!:hippie:

I just signed up for UG - it's freaking me out...they have Jan. 25th listed as a 7 for crowds?!?!

Also, they have MK as the best park to go to ton Monday, Jan. 25th. I always thought Monday's were bad days for MK, especially with Spectro showing? Now I'm confused - I had planned MK for Tuesday, but now wondering if I should plan on MK on Monday.

Love the details - I need more time to really relate to our reservations! Thanks....it's great to see where others go

We're there Jan 14th-21 (POFQ) then Cruising 21-24 on Wonder! We can't wait. DH, DD (6), DS (3), In-laws and ME!

Enjoy your trip!

Glad you were able to figure it out cause we really are not supposed to post links to THAT site :)

The 25th is our arrival date and we will going to MK for a few hours that afternoon/evening. I think it is a recommended park that day because the previous night (sunday 24th) is a PM EMH @ MK!!! Usually, the day after a PM EMH is fairly quiet! :woohoo: Although, it may be a bit more crowded in the evening because of Spectro.:rolleyes1 Either way we are going to risk it! I need to be in my happy place on our arrival day! :yay:

:cool1:

I hope that we can request the wing that faces the castle. I also hope we can switch from 2 queens to a queen + bunk beds. Fingers are crossed that we'll be able to get what we want!

Have you seen this thread? IIRC there is a map with room numbers and very specific info about which areas have bunk bed rooms, etc.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2319081

We last went in June and checked into AKL late in the evening - we'd made a request but they couldn't honor it b/c it was so full and so late in the day - the room we were assigned ended up being great for reasons that we hadn't considered when we were trying to plan. (I'm such an overplanner - sometimes it works, sometimes not.)

I will be visiting Disney World January 9th to January 13th on a semi-solo trip. I am going with a friend who has a conference to attend all day so I will be soloing the parks during the day. I cant wait. Before my January trip I am doing a December trip with some friends. I hope the snow doesn't get in the way of either of my trips.

I finally booked a plane! I'm so excited that everything is booked and now I can concentrate on the little details!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the board. My boyfriend and I are going to Disney World in January 2010 as well. We went in July 2009 for a week and had such an amazing time! So, when we saw the Buy 4 nights, get 3 nights free promo, it was a done deal. We will be there from January 5-12 and staying at the Coronado Springs Resort.

Here are the ADRs that we got:

Jan 5 - Coral Reef/lunch; Biergarten/dinner
Jan 6 - Ohana/dinner
Jan 7 - Kouzzina/dinner
Jan 9 - Boma/dinner
Jan 10 - California Grill/dinner

Can't wait! We're looking forward to this so much that he even made a countdown, check it out!

Isn't it cute? I look at it everyday :):):)

Nice to meet you all!

I posted this on the Attactions board and somone suggested I join you all here on the planning board. So I hope its OK I cut and pasted the original post. I'd love to hear your ideas/comments on it. Besides, DH said "we already discussed the major points. We dont' need to keep talking about it." Guess I have become WDW fixated if all I want to do is talk about the planning . Half the fun is in the planning and I know I can find kindred spirts here!

We aren't park commandos, but I do have a general idea of what we'd do in each park. Will start a 'Disney Wish List" w/DD9 once we tell her we're going. We'll do that in Dec during our The Frog & The Princess trip to NYC.

So here goes - all comments welcome

Travelers: Me:surfweb:, DH and DD9
History: 1st ever trip for all of us in Oct 08 @ Poly. I went solo Mar 09 @ WL
Hotel: Polynesian
Dining: Deluxe plan
Dates: Jan 22 - 31, 2010

1/22 - arrival @ MCO around 10
- 12:30 Wave for lunch
- 6:30 Pirates & Pals Fireworks cruise from the Contemporary
Thought we'd use time after lunch to settle in and get ready for cruise

1/23 - Discovery Cove
- 7:30 PM California Grill for 22nd Wedding Anniversary

1/24 -sleep late then Epcot WS
- breakfast Capt Cooks @ Poly & nibbles in Epcot
- Yorkshire Country Fish Shop
- 6 PM Les Chefs de France - may change to Bisto de Paris
we'll wander but make sure to stop at Morocco for henna tattos for me & DD9and to watch Mo'Rockin (spelling?), Pick a Pearl in Japan, street players in Italy & UK, characters as we find them

1/25 - MK for rope drop
- Main Street Bakery probably for breakfast
- 12 PM Plaza lunch
- 7:55 Akershus Princess dinner
I know we'll head for Space Mt, Big Thunder railroad, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Swiss Family Treehouse (don't ask ), Dole Whip, face painting, DH needs picture w/Goofy, Pirates tutorial and POTC, TTA, Carousel, teacups, Dumbo, Flying Carpets. If the Tiana showboat show is still running will definitely do that.

1/26 - DHS and stay for Idol show at night
- AM we'll take our chances
- lunch - still not sure
- 4:25 PM Sci Fi Cafe
DD9 wants Idol show and I want Muppets. DH & DD9 will do TOT and RNRC. Still need to flesh out these plans and find a good map of the park

1/27 - Resort day/Downtown Disney
- AM 9:20 Chef Mickey
- Lunch ?
-7:45 PM Cinderella's Happily Ever after. I did this solo and Lady Tremaine and the Stepsisters were a riot. Single woman seemed to attract them and I played right into it. Have a fabulous pic of Anastasia seated across from me for some "girl talk".

1/28 - TBD - DH & DD9 want to rent a Sea Racer for the lagoon.
- 8:25 AM Liberty Tree Tavern (subbing for Crystal Palace). On my last trip I arrived very early for breakfast (due to WL launch to Contemporary and walking to MK- which was a lot of fun. Everything was so quiet and deserted). Best part was having a Photopass photographer all to myself in The Hub. She took pics w/all the little statues surounding the Partners statue. So we'll be there before or by 8 AM
- Lunch -?
- 7:30 PM California Grill for DH's 50th birthday. Or we'll do fireworks in MK - DH bday so DH choice

1/29 - MK or AK or ?
AM & Lunch ?
8:05 PM Citrico's - 22nd Anniversary

1/30 - MK. Must end trip w/MK
- easy day ending w/fireworks and a glass of wine on the Poly beach.

If you've gotten through my novel - thanks for reading! I'd really appreciate any and all comments/thoughts. I don't post often because I don't feel I have too much to add but with a 3rd trip in less than 24 months under my belt I guess I'll finally have some info to add!

Sounds like a pretty good plan....I am sooo jelous you are going to Discovery Cove!
Our DD is 8 so we have a similar demographic going to the world :).

I see my name on the master list but I must have not mentioned the dates! Oops! :) We're going to be there Jan 14 - 18th. It's a surprise trip for DBF. I'm sure you guys can imagine how hard it's been NOT to talk about this trip! I can't wait for Xmas just so I can TALK about it! LOL! We're staying at AKL savanna view...my dream come true! Got a great deal thru the Visa rewards.
I do have a few ADR's but I'm trying not to "plan" this trip b/c last time we went, I was commando and while it paid off in terms of wait times for rides, it was exhausting. Plus, it's only 4 nights this time. But, as you guys know, you HAVE to plan a wee bit, right? ADR's:
Thurs. Jan 14- Kouzzina 9:20pm (late I know but we get into MCO at 6:30 and wanted to give plenty of time for ME and bus transportation over to Boardwalk)
Fri. Jan 15 - Rose and Crown 6:10pm (I also have one at Biergarten at 7:45pm because I want to let him choose. We LOVE Biergarten but we always eat there.)
Sun. Jan 17 - Brown Derby Fantasmic package 3:30pm (not my first choice of restaurant but it was all they had left and I KNOW he'll want to see Fantasmic. With it being reduced to twice a week by that time, I'm sure the line will be HUGE to see it. The package seemed the way to go. We ate there last time and it was good.)

That's all I booked. Trying to be flexible. I am VERY much looking forward to going to the tequila bar in EPCOT! :woohoo:

So, even though we're going on the holiday weekend, what do you think the crowds will be like? ANyone ever go that weekend? Touringplans says they're not terrible...a bit higher on that weekend...but what do you guys think? Last time we went Xmas week into New Years and it was unreal!
