January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Oh I'm right there with ya! Between not having park hours or ADR's set- it's very frustrating! I'm really only looking to make 1 or 2 ADR's and it's bugging me so I can imagine how those of you that are making several must feel!

I just want everything set in stone by now. To be honest my whole trip is up in the air and dependent upon Disney releasing something good. :headache:

Add me for 1/13 through 1/18 at POFQ! DF is taking me to celebrate my 29th birthday. So excited! Moved to FL earlier this year and though it's great being able to pop over to WDW for a day when we want, nothing is as magical as staying on property, which I haven't done since 12/08! It will be our first time at POFQ, can't wait to see it, the pictures look so pretty!

We booked our 5-night stay as an Annual Passholders Plus Dining package. So hoping some good AP rates for Jan come out so we can apply that discount! More disney spending money then! :rotfl:

Let's get this Saturday rolling with a QOTD:

What is your one (or more) favorite thing announced last week regarding the Fantasyland expansion?

I will start with the Little Mermaid ride and the new Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant.

Side note: Plus at D23 the announcement of POTC4: Stranger Tides in 2011.

Count us in for 1/12-1/16 at the Beach Club. Mr. & Mrs. BunsenH on a DINK trip!

Time to make the spreadsheet!

The entire Fantasyland expansion is exciting to me :goodvibes That section lacks something it was just rides and concrete....it lacked fantasy ;) But the Beauty and the Beast restaurant does look pretty cool :)

All of the Beauty & the Beast stuff! That's my favorite Disney movie, and while Belle's storytime is cute, I've always thought they could do better. I cannot wait to see the new restaurant!

Beyond that, just the overall improvement to what I think is Disney's weakest area in terms of theme, architecture, landscaping, etc. I'm really looking forward to a more visually interesting, less theme-parky Fantasyland.

BlovesC,

We have stayed at the French Quarter 3 times and loved it! The smallness of the resort makes everything accessible and quick to walk to. Very romantic...have a great time!

Thanks so much, that's great to hear!

As for the QotD, definitely the Little Mermaid ride and B&tB restaurant are what I'm most excited in. We don't have kids (yet) so most of the fantasyland expansion doesn't really appeal to us. As much as we love catering to our 'big kid' personalities while at WDW, we do kind of draw the line at photo-ops and crafts with the pixies and princesses.

So I bit the bullet and booked with dreams, we are leaving the 24th of January and returning on the 29th!! We are staying at POP! This is going to be the best trip ever!! I am booking the air fare this weekend!! I am getting so excited...I just don't know what I am going to do any more!! (to much planning is not even a thought...but thats what Matthew (my bf) says lol)

i booked today for 1/11-1/15 at ak. it will be the first trip for me and hubby with no kids

Just started planning our January 2010 Disney vacation. Have been going the last few years in November. Was wondering how the weather is in January and how is the crowd level??
So excited!!!

We went this past Jan, arrived 1/2/09 for 5 nights, I thought crowds were bad that weekend and check in was horrible at SSR (will never arrive that day again). The crowd did let up during beggining of week but then you have the Marathon crowd coming in around Wed or Thurs. This year we're going 1/11/10 for 5 nights and hoping to miss Marathon crowd and get out before Martin Luther King weekend. Weather was great, mostly 70 - 75 and hoping for the same for upcoming trip!

I was SO excited about the POTC announcement!

I can't wait to see the new Fantasyland! I think I'm most looking forward to seeing Belle's spot and the restaurant.

Woo hoo! :woohoo:Congrats on booking! I hope it's a nice and relaxing trip for you two!
Just started planning our January 2010 Disney vacation. Have been going the last few years in November. Was wondering how the weather is in January and how is the crowd level??
So excited!!!
We were there the last week in January and the weather really varied throughout the week. I would definitely pack layers. Some days were warm enough for shorts and swimming. Some days and mostly nights we wore pants and lightweight jackets/sweatshirts. It's hard but I would pack a mix of everything.
The crowds weren't too bad for us. It was busier the weekend we arrived but by Monday-Tuesday thinned out. It got busy again the weekend we left with the dance competition. Although even the busy days weren't nearly as crowded as our trips years before in Oct and July.

You never can tell....last January they had a frost!!! But we've been other times in January & we wore shorts! Just be prepared for anything!

I remember January '09:

Frost on the grass (I have a photo)
CMs in parkas, gloves
Table salt being sprinkled on the icy docks
Turnstiles and FP machines not working
......

Our trip in '10 is a 'do over' for that weather!:thumbsup2

Lucky for us, we just missed it-signs all over the grass. I wouldn't mind cooler temps, but to go to Florida & get that...:scared1: We would like to go again but are definitely waiting for a deal....I see many people are getting great deals for mid-January-doesn't help us though.....:sad2:

When we were there last January we missed the cold spell that they had.. we were there the last week of the month and it was beautiful... shorts during the day and slacks and long sleeves at night... a little lightweight jacket or hoodie a couple of nights.... it was really nice... I have been in August and June and will take January weather over with of those....

We were there from the 19th to the 29th of January this year.

When we landed at about 1130am on the 19th it was 69F degrees! BEAUTIFUL!!! We had come from -25C that morning!

The next few days were a bit chilly, but still a lot warmer than at home for us! We did wear little mitts and warm sweaters for a day or two but closer to the end of the week it was nice and toasty warm again! We even swam a couple times!

The day we left to go home it was 82F degrees! I had long jeans and a warm sweater on as we were heading to DME @ POP. A man stopped and asked me if we were headed somewhere cold! I said yes that we were going home to Northen Ontario! He said "Yup, I guess it's pretty cold up there huh?" :lmao: :rotfl:

When we arrived home, it was - 18C degrees with a wind chill of - 35! So, you see, I can handle pretty much any weather! Even winter in Florida is better than winter in Northern Ontario! :rotfl2:
