January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Just thought I'd throw this out there for those of you staying at CBR. We were there during this competition this year. They had a HUGE number staying at CBR. They even had huge tents set up on the property for different things. Since CBR is so big, I didn't really notice an impact anywhere except the food court. It definatly got more crowded with girls on cell phones texting while they walk EVERYWHERE! The emphasis there is that they really weren't paying attention where they were going. Just an FYI.
They arrived the last few days of our trip last year too but we didn't mind too much. We saw the tents up and were wondering what was going on. Once we went to the food court we figured it out! It did make the food court more crowded but it wasn't too bad. My biggest concern is loud kids while we are trying to sleep. Since CBR is more spread out than ASMovies we're hoping it won't be too bad at night. Although who knows...I've been looking up POR lately:rolleyes1!

Please let us know how the July drive goes. I could use some encouragement in that department.

Hope you are having a wonderful day!!!

Will do, hopefully I'm not awake for much of it (wishful thinking!).

Congrats on your awesome news!! That's wonderful for you!!:grouphug:

Good luck driving down in July! We pulled our camper from York County, PA down to Ft Wilderness in 2007. I wish you a very very SAFE drive. I don't think we'll ever drive again....although getting our camper slammed into by a drunk driver on I-695 right in Baltimore at 3am wasn't such a good start to a vacation!! Luckily no one was hurt...and after 2 rolls of duct tape and 2 hours on the side of the road with police, we were on our way. Just use caution...and remember.....BE SAFE!!!

Thanks (and I'm glad no one was hurt during your run in with a drunk driver). I'm sure my Husband will have a roll of duct tape packed just in case. (He's standing right next to me now reading this and just shaking his head :rotfl:)

I noticed the tents at CBR but no groups or cheerleaders or anything. :confused3 But then like you said, it is so spread out that it's always quiet.

We are looking at POR too. . .

I thought that I posted this, but I guess I didn't...

Have any of you ever stayed at Port Orleans Riverside in the mansions? Could you tell me about it? We are booked at FQ, but I have total moon eyes for the mansions. Just a little worried about being far from the main building, bus stops and not be gaurenteed (sp?) a room in the mansion section. (Aligator Bayou totally does not do it for me.)

Also, on a silly note, I asked that everyone have a moment of silence for G's hair. He came home last night nearly bald. He asked the girl to cut it a little and she down right went to town. I almost cried.

We stayed at POR last year but didn't stay in the mansions although they looked really nice! I just wanted to tell you that we requested a closer building in Alligator Bayou to the main building and didn't get it and actually ended up in one of the further ones. But it honestly didn't matter at all! The place is so beautiful, we didn't mind walking that extra 5 minutes. People always talk online about how it is "so far" but it really isn't that bad as people make it out to be. Just thought that might ease your mind a little!

We stayed last January at the mansions and we loved it. I don't remember the name of the mansions that we had but it was just over the wooden bridge and not at all far from the main building. it could have been Oak or Magnolia. It was so nice and peaceful.

Did you take a picture?

We stayed in the mansions for two nights in Jan 08. I think it was called Partierre Place or something like that. It was nice - the room was upstairs on the corner of the building. Decent size too. Double sink separate from the bath/toilet room. Curtain separates that area from the bed area. We were across the river from the main building and over one mansion. It was a beautiful area and nice walk - not too far. Very quiet - the only noise we heard while there was the occasional boat on the river (which we could see from our room) and a worker truck here and there. We didn't use the pools as it was cool and rainy and it was a quick stay (one day at MK) before going to Miami for a cruise. I would stay there again! The grounds are so beautiful it's very relaxing.

If you ask for the mansions, will you get the mansions? Not to sound like a snot...but I'm from Louisiana and a cajun style resort totally does not appeal to me. I never wanted to stay at Port Orleans for that very same reason, but we ended up there on our Honeymoon and loved it. I'm cool with FQ or Mansions, but not the Aligator place.

Good luck with your surprise! It is such a fun thing to do, we surprised the boys on Christmas with our January 2009 trip!! :cool1:

Well it was your story that inspired me! I had never thought of a surprise, because I talk about WDW nonstop.

Hi guys. Just got back from the Doctors and wanted to say hello. I got some really good news. After my first two cycles of chemo they did a scan yesterday to see if we were making any progress, the scans came back showing a decent reduction in the size of the cancer in all locations. It was such a relief to have tears of joy for once (been plenty of the other kind over the last few months). We're not out of the woods yet but at least we found the path!!!

The best part is he said I would be okay to travel to WDW for our 10th Anniversary trip at the end of July! (I planned it between treatments for a reason:rolleyes1).

Oh Joni! That is such wonderful news! :thumbsup2 Stay strong Girl! Keep Fighting! :goodvibes

Oh Soleil! You crack me up! :rotfl: Poor G! At least it was only hair! It WILL grow back! ;)

A request is never guaranteed. But we have received most of our requests over the years.

We are probably going to go with POR, but I am the opposite of you - I really like the looks of Alligator Bayou, but don't really care for the Mansions. :confused3

Yeah the driving home part was HORRIBLE last time!!!!!! I still have nightmares about it. I made sure for the ride down they had new stuff and snacks to make it easier but didn't think to do that for the ride home. :headache:This time I'll be more prepared and save some special treats for the ride home too. Lesson learned!

OMG-the drive home last Jan completely was AWFUL!!! Did you have problems with the fog and ice??? I was giong 25mph on the interstate for several hours and got off on several different exits looking for a gas station with poser and couldn't hardly see to get back to the interstate. Yes, NIGHTMARE!!

Yet, we're doing it again...:confused3

Joni I'm so happy you got some positive news!!!:goodvibes Praying your "path" stays clear from now on!:woohoo:

Hi neighbor! I'm from MD too (way up in Cecil Co:thumbsup2). We drive too but we've never attempted to drive all night though. I don't think I'd be able to stay awake. We usually get up and leave super early, drive until we at least get over the FL border and stay a night. The next day we're well rested and only have a short drive to the World! We're pretty much going the same dates too..small world!

Hi! We are from Dundalk (Baltimore Hon!). Nice to hear from someone who is in my state. Wow, you drive from Cecil County. How long does that take? It takes us about 13 hours from Baltimore. I don't think we could make the drive straight through if it took any longer. I usually sleep a good bit of the way, but as I said my husband stays up and loves to drive. I think he goes on pure adrenalin and excitement. (ha ha) Well I will subscribe to this thread and hopefully we can talk some more.

It's take all kinds, sister!!!
