January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

Hi everyone. I found this thread last week and I actually sat on my chair all day and read thru 104 pages! I felt guilty spending my last day of vacation on the boards for all of say, 2 mins. and then realized how much enjoyment it brought me so I forgave myself. We will be in the world from the 11th-19th. First time for us in January, also. I'm coming out of lurkdom because I re-checked Typhoon Lagoon and it will end it's rehab on the 5th. Blizzard Beach goes to into rehab on the 6th. We have missed TL for a few visits now cuz we usually go in Oct., Nov. or Dec. Now that DD is starting college we are trying Jan. We love TL and are looking forward to getting back to it! Sorry if you BB lovers are disappointed, though. Really, the last thing we Snowbirds should want to see is snow, right?

Ok, now I'm confused, too! I checked the dis sight, wdwinfo . com. When I checked Disney's sight it has BB down for approx 1 month and TL down for almost three. Strange, very strange! As far as I can remember, they have stuck to the same schedule year after year. Maybe they are doing a major overhaul. Anyone else out there have any info?

Bummer! I just checked allears and they report that TL will be down from Oct. 26 - March 21! Something's up. I know I read that the surf school is on hold for a while...Guess we'll have to wait and see. Sorry if I got your hopes up but it's another reason to plan another trip!

Shelly is doing such a great job with the snowbirds, we'd all be a jumbled mess of threads if it weren't for her
I believe the Jan schedule for the water parks changes each Jan. In Jan 07 BB was open and TL was closed when we were there, and this year in Jan 08 TL was open and BB was closed. I believe it will be BB that is open in Jan 09. I just checked disney's site and BB is open and TL is closed Jan 09. Hope that helps!

Hi Andrea,

I'm not too far from you (poconos, pa) and we will be in Disney about the same time. We are driving but breaking it up alittle. We leave here the morning of the 3rd and will be stopping at DH's son's house in NC. Staying till Monday morning and then continuing the drive. We will check into the CSR (changed from the CBR) Monday night and are staying till the 13th.

When my kids were little I found the best way to take long drives was (if possible) leave at night, they will sleep a good part of the way, and you don't have to hear "are we there yet"

However you decide to get there, just remember you will have a great time

We stopped at Target yesterday and got a twin airbed. We've never used one before, so we are going to get it out and try it out sometime in the next 5 months before vacation! Hopefully it is easy to inflate and use!

And I wish they had something in tween sizes that wasn't Camp Rock or Hannah Montana! Luckily DD can wear a womens XS, even though it is big.

WOW that's a great deal!! Yes, those kids t-shirts at WDW are at least $20 each. But I usually end up buying them each one anyway just because they say Walt Disney World on them!! What can I say - I'm weak when it comes to Disney!!

Hey we should all be able to spot each other at WDW in January, our kids will probably all be wearing the same shirts from Disney Shopping online!!

I'm very excited to say we have now paid almost 40% into our trip! By the end of the month, we'll be over the halfway mark!

Also, we have added an extra day to our trip, so now we'll leave on the 19th. We're thinking this is a good move, and will allow us some extra down time. So now we're scheduled for Jan 19-27th!

One question for all you veterans out there: When would you recommend buying the plane tickets? My sisters and I are coming from all over the place (Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Washington). My older sister who is flying in from Anchorage won't be able to buy her ticket until October. We're wondering how bad flight prices will be by then and are a little intimidated. Any encouraging words???

Congrats on the extra day!! An extra day at WDW is always great!!

Where are you staying?

As far as the airline tickets, I would get them as soon as you see a price you can live with. You never know when they will go up. I just paid $85 each way because that was the lowest I had seen them in awhile from my airport. I hated to do it because last year I only paid $74, but I was afraid they'd only go up.
