January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

For our Halloween Cruise DIS Meet, we met in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3. There were probably 35-40 of us, including the kiddos, and we had our group photo taken there on the stage. It worked out pretty well. :)

And for first time cruisers... we found that we didn't need some items that people put on the list of "must haves", like duct tape or masking tape, bungie cords, alarm clocks, extra hangers, over the door shoe organizers... so don't go crazy overthinking and overpacking. We found the staterooms plenty big with plenty of places to put things, all the doors/drawers closed (and stayed closed) as they should, even through a pretty rough storm. If things in your room don't work, call guest services and they'll fix it! Need extra hangers? Call and they'll bring them! They want you to be HAPPY!

Some things we were glad we brought were ziplock bags for shells and wet bathing suites the last day, good highlighters to note what not to miss on the Navigators each day, and a spiral notebook to leave notes to each other in the stateroom and to journal in each day. We found that some days, we and our son were passing like ships in the night and the notes to each other about where we were headed were fun and informational.

So, seasoned cruisers, what do y'all think about the list of "must haves"?

New cruisers, any questions about what stuff you really need?

Thought it'd be a fun information conversation!

Looking forward to cruising in the sunshine in January,

Sherry

Well, since we traveled with 4 rooms last time, I had gotten the magnet memo pads since the doors are metal, and when we left our cabin we wrote where we were going if anyone wanted to meet up with us and hung it on the outside of our door.

I also brought clothes pins for our suits to hang on the line in the tub.

And I picked up a cheap neon orange or grren inflatable tube/float for DS. That way I could spot him in the water in a instant, and when we left the beach, we deflated it and threw it away.

Shout wipes are wondefrul for spots during dinner.

Another item off the list:woohoo: .....got the airline tickets today, almost $300.00 less:scared1: than the last time we went! Same airline, same schedule, go figure.

Brett

Good for you!!! What airline? We are waiting for southwest to open up.

We booked on Midwest and fly out of Milwaukee at 2:35 PM on the 18th, our return is on the 26th at 11:55 AM, I know it's a rush, but, the last two times we went, we had no problem making it, as a matter of fact, we had to wait for the counter to open so we could check in.

This is my first time on the boards and our first Disney Cruise. My husband, my mom and myself are coming from California and bringing my two daughters ages 6 and 7 and my son age 4. We're all really excited and I love looking at all these messages.

Wow, this is great hearing about all of us being on the same cruise! Again, this will be our first cruise, and all this information is fabulous. As far as planning, all I've done is booked the cruise. I am still on the lookout for good airfares out of BWI, Dulles, or Philly. We are also wanting to fly out on Friday and stay overnight in either Orlando or Cocoa Beach. Also debating on getting a rental car versus the Disney transportation. -- can't quite decide on either. We are also wanting to stay overnight post-cruise to avoid the masses at the airport; a good tip I picked up on the board :cool1: Since it is a Saturday, I figured, what the heck, might as well make it an extra long trip. Haven't quite decided on what we'll do that Saturday either...maybe make a trip to Seaworld. So, I have lots of planning to do yet; transportation, hotels, sights, etc. Decisions, decisions.... So if anyone has any ideas/suggestions/recommendations on anything, let me know!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Welcome aboard Lisalisaq. Looks like our boat will be filled with lots of young ones!!!! I have been talking about the kid's club and all the new kids our son is going to meet so he will be prepared when we get there.

Hello Cruisers!

Havent been here in a while so have had a few pages to catch up on - Welcome to all who have joined the January Thaw! :grouphug:

Cheryl I saw your post about the Vow renewal, infact thats what made me come check the boards this morning I was getting worried because I havent heard anything from Cathy in a long time - do you think we will have our bookings sorted by the end of this month? I hope they release the info soon, I like having everything organised and another job ticked off the list ;)

Count us in for the meet, you name the time and place and we will be there (I will be the one with the bahama mamas in full flow  )

Kay - how are your plans coming along for your renewal? I have asked to be wait listed for a Cat 3 if we get it you are welcome to use our balcony!

Guys I need this trip so bad! Im fed up of digging out snow and most nights we have been hitting -25 so the thought of tropical breezes and sunshine are the only things that are keeping me going at the moment! :cool1:

Gixer,
-25!!!:scared1: is the C or F:eek:

Brett

Just a FYI

Dollar tree had some magnetic noteboards for $1 each that looked like thought and speech bubbles. I thought they were cool for sticking to the door. I also picked up some little treasures for the kids and pool floats for CC. At a dollar, I don't care if we leave them on the island or the ship...

that would be -25 C taking into account the wind chill its sooooooo cold! Although we are hoping its going to get just above freezing this weekend during the day so it looks like we could be having a cookout on Saturday if this heatwave continues :lmao:

WOW----That sounds cold!!!!!

I think that, with how it has been, the vow stuff :bride: should be all set by the end of August. If I think that way, and it happens sooner, I will be even happier!!! :goodvibes I just have kindof planned everything around the time frame of when I asked her, told all the people who are in our group, and are just awaiting the final forms to fill in what flowers we want, what music we want, what type of booze we want....:rotfl: ......that sort of thing. I, like you, am an organizing freak.....need to know that it is done!! However, I am trying to stay calm, cool (which would be easier for you considering the weather), and collected. :scared1:

Look at me, here I am at my desk at Church, putting together the Altar Server Guide for a meeting in 30 minutes, and what am I doing....:surfweb: I am on the dis board!!!!

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Cheryl

6 More Months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: :woohoo: :yay:

Have a great day!!!

cheryl

Wow,
I have been so busy with all our summer stuff that is going on, I haven't paid attention to the countdowns......

Welcome to all our new cruisers......

Once summer is over here, its time to start planning and creating door signs and shirts...then the time will really fly.

We are off to Charlotte for the weekend, DS(17) is taking a seminar at a culinary school to see if he wants to maybe go there. Then next week off to Florida to visit family. With no trip to WDW..how will I survive it????:scared:

And three more months till we can make our ressies (10/21/07):cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: :thumbsup2

Brett

I can't wait to eat at Palo for brunch. Brett, do you know when you find out your restaurant rotation? I have been combing the boards here and there doesn't seem to be an answer. Also, when do you think it brunch is best, day 2, or 3? :confused3 Thanks,

cheryl
