January 17th 2014 Disney Magic 3 Night Bahamas Cruise

I just logged into the reservation website and there is a cabana available in serenity bay. I wish it was the family beach, but maybe someone on here is looking for one on serenity bay.

WOW!! I had to go look myself (not because I didn't believe you( because I wanted to see what it would look like to show one available - ha ha! :lmao:

Very nice of you to point that out and like you no go since DS wouldn't be allowed but oh well. That $$ goes a long way too but one day I'd like to do this, really I would.

That was me - I ditched my reservation after checking the weather forecast and looking at my friends' photos from last week at CC (she's wearing long pants and a jacket). I'm thinking we won't do a full day at the beach; maybe just hit it for lunch and the afternoon. I was pretty excited to snag it at 12:01am at the 120 day mark - I hope someone who wanted it notices the re-deposit.

My family totally makes fun of me for being a major pre-planner and always having an itinerary, but that's who I am! Need help now so I can relax on the ship . . .
1. We were planning on snorkeling at the Cay. Do you'll think the water will be warm enough for that? Temps are lower than expected.
2. Are most of you dressing up for dinner even with the cooler weather? My girls are 10 and 13 and I figured they would freeze in cutesy dresses.
3. Do you wear the pirate attire to dinner that night or just to the deck party?
4. Is it worth doing the 5K for the experience of it (and the medal) if I know we will be walking and not running, once again with a 10 and 13 year old.

I bet Northern kids will think the water is fine. I expect to find it too cold to enjoy for long.

Snorkeling at CC just doesn't seem to be worth the money for renting the equipment. There is a major lack of fish to see - and the sandy bottom gets stirred up very easily.

I, at 52 yo, am looking forward to an opportunity to dress a little nicer than my everyday attire; since there is no mad-dash from the house to the car in freezing temps, I find onboard to be a very enjoyable place for putting on your GLAM (as someone else posted).

I don't usually do pirate costumes - but sometimes wear black. I never feel out of place. I just say that I'm one of the civilians from whom they are stealing.

As a non-runner and poor exerciser, I think that introducing your girls to short races is an excellent idea! You don't have to worry about dogs or automobile traffic; I think you might also see a bit more of the island than if you just ride bikes or walk around. However, the 10 year old is going to get left out, since she's < 12. Drats.

Just throwing in some info (which might be on the previous 13 pages :) )
Here's a link to the daily onboard guide, the "Personal Navigator." You will get one at embarkation and then delivered to your room each night while you are dining. (This one is from a 3-night New Year's Magic cruise).

...Another question for the 5K -- do you just sign up there? So glad you all posted about this, so I can be sure to pack my husband's and daughter's running clothes!

This is what they say about the 5K:

runDisney: Castaway Cay 5K (12+)
Pre-Book at Guest Services, Deck 3, Midship - 8:00 am
Runners meet in D Lounge, Deck 4, Midship, at 8:00 am. We will depart the ship at 8:30 am and make our way to the Bike Rentals where the run will begin. All Guests participating must be 12 years or older.

I don't see how you can sign-up on Deck 3 and be on Deck 4 at the same time - and get everyone out the door by 8:30 am. Perhaps someone who's done this before will answer that question - otherwise, I'd suggest visiting Guest Services the night before Castaway (wait until the boarding rush is over).

Natalie (my 8 year old) is very excited about meeting Paige and Adrianna in the kids club! I am not sure if she is going to want to spend any time with us during the cruise. :)
I am kind of a packing procrastinator, but I must get everything in suitcases tomorrow. We fly to Orlando on Thursday. I had a question about what most men wear to dinner in the MDR. We have cruised on Carnival, Princess, and NCL so we have seen a variety of dress codes. My husband isn't sure what he needs to bring. If you have cruised with Disney before, what do you suggest?
Also, if you have cruised with a baby/toddler, what did you bring with you when you went to dinner? I am bringing sippy cups, bibs, and wipes. I know they have highchairs. Do I need to bring plastic bowls or those placemats that stick to the table? My daughter is 13 months and mainly eats soft food cut up in small bite sized pieces. She doesn't use utensils yet, but prefers "real food" over baby food in jars.
I appreciate your advice!

My husband usually wears a polo shirt/linen shirt and khaki pants. Since there is no formal night he's only going to wear nice pants/shirt to palo brunch. Since Disney has relaxed their dress code he has worn polo shirt and khaki shorts when dining in animators palate since it is less formal in there.

My husband usually wears polo shirt/linen shirt and khaki pants on the shorter cruises with no formal night. Since disney has relaxed their dress policy he has worn polo and khaki shorts at animators palate since it's the least formal restaurant.

I suggest khaki slacks or other nice dress trousers, a sport shirt with a collar or dress shirt, belt and shoes (not sneakers/flip flops). However jeans and a collared shirt are okay too. He would not be out of place in a coat and tie or suit if he wants to dress up. I know some people hate dressing up, but I wish they would save their tacky t-shirts and ballcaps for the pool deck. And if you don't want to follow the dress code, there is a great dinner at Cabanas.

Sorry, but shorts are not acceptable in any of the three main dining rooms for dinner. Per DCL: Dinner attire is "cruise casual," meaning no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. Diners at Palo or Remy, the adults-only restaurants, will want to dress more formally than when dining at our other restaurants.

EDIT: I just found out that shorts may be acceptable and this information is wrong. See the posts below.

That said, you will see it all. As far as I can tell, Disney doesn't enforce the dress code in the dining rooms.

Disney relaxed their dress code last August--

Aug 10, 2013

Disney Cruise Line has relaxed the dress code in their main dining rooms. Previously, guests were encouraged to dress in "Cruise Casual," which generally meant no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. The majority of guests used this opportunity to dress up a little for dinner, with dresses or nice pants for women and slacks for men. The new policy states that shorts, jeans, khakis and capris are permitted, but guests are still asked not to wear swimwear or tank tops.

Most Disney Cruise Line itineraries also feature themed nights where guests dress like pirates or in tropical attire. There is often a Formal Night as well. A stricter dress code will still apply for Palo and Remy, the adults-only restaurants on the ships.

Thanks for the clarification. My Pre-arrival guide for this cruise still says no shorts as quoted in my above post. After re-reading you comments, I checked the latest FAQs on the DCL website and found that shorts are okay.
I don't have a problem with shorts, but probably wouldn't wear them to dinner on a cruise.

Yep, I was just going to post the same that DCL relaxed their policy on shorts in the MDR. I'm certainly not going to judge anyone however it's highly unlikely you'll see my guys in shorts in the MDR as they tend to like to dress up just a tad. My DH might wear dressier jeans this time around which is a major deal for him - lol. I agree that you will be amazed at what you see and think, "really"? :rotfl2:

I agree that too casual (shorts/jeans/ball caps) attire brings down the mood of the dining room. For a 4+ course, fine-dining meal I would think folks would enjoy dressing up. But everyone has different constraints, so no worries... We are going all-out formal on Sunday night because where else do you get to wear gowns these days? Or tiaras? Or feather boas? princess:

People worry too much about what other people wear. Like I tell my kids, "Worry about yourself!"

Packing the car, heading down to Orlando for the night. See you all TOMORROW!!!:drive::woohoo:

I'm also wishing everyone safe travels!! We head to the airport (we drive 1.5 hours to catch SWA) in about 2 hours after we pick up DS at school - which is goofy as they had a 2 hour delay but I wanted him to get a math test over with.

I'm watching our flight like a hawk as it originates in MN and they are having blizzards again. So far so good but fingers crossed!

We can't wait!!

My daughter and I separated out our FE gifts last night and we are 3 or 4 short for our cabin gift! :-( I don't know if I counted wrong or some fell out if the bag...

Unfortunately, we're at Pop Century and the supplies are at home... We're going to take note of which cabins are missing, and I'll PM those people when we get back ... If you don't mind giving your address, I can make more and get them in the mail asap.

I'm so sorry!!!

You can skip us. We are lucky enough to cruise often, I'm fine letting the less often cruisers enjoy the gifts.
