January 11, 2014 Eastern Cruise

Hey there! Wow, I joined this group when we first booked last fall, but haven't checked back often....so I'm just getting caught up! We definitely want to be a part of the fish extender group...I believe I said this early on, but it was way early. Who is organizing it? Let me know and I'll send you all of our info. Thanks!!

Since I haven't been active recently, I'll update our info. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise (got to go on the very first cast member preview of the Dream thanks to dear friends who work for the Mouse...that one was just hubby and I), then last year, exactly one year ago this weekend, we totally shocked our kids (dd now 11, ds now 7) by waking them up at 4:00 a.m. and telling them to get in the car, we were heading to the airport to go to Disney...they had NO idea! Then the next day we told them we were going to change rooms, and see the Kennedy Space Center before doing so....we did see the space center....on the way to the cruise port! That's when they totally lost it! It was the trip of a lifetime for sure (returned to the parks for 4 days afterwards). We are really looking forward to having a longer cruise this time!

I saw someone on here homeschools....we are a homeschool family, too.

I'd also like to be a part of a FB group....with our last cruise, we had a closed, private Facebook group like someone mentioned, and it
didn't require anyone to be personal FB friends. It looks like someone was trying to do that...any update??

I was able to set up a working facebook page for all of us to use. We have been having problems setting up a group page because Facebook has recently changed the way it is designed. Type in January Cruise in the search box. A number of them will pop up with the same name. Our group has a profile picture of a Mickey hand holding a snow globe with the cruise ship in it. Please put a friend request in! Hopefully this will iron out all of the kinks.

I tried searching January Cruise but none of them have photos. Maybe you should put a public description of the cruise on it? Or if you'd like I can direct message you my facebook url and you can add me to the group that way.

A few people have found it already. It is not a group, I set it up as if you were looking for a friend. Facebook has changed the way groups are set up. This way our page has tight privacy and security like a normal page.

In essence, Fish Extenders is a gift exchange. On the outside of every stateroom door is a metal fish on the wall. People hang home made or purchased "mailboxes" on these hooks and we deliver each other gifts throughout the cruise. It is a lot of fun and there is nothing better than coming back to your stateroom and finding that someone has delivered a gift to you and your family! Each stateroom that signs up will deliver a gift to all other staterooms on the list and in turn will get a gift back from all of them. It could be a small gift per person or per room. The choice is yours. People give homemade gifts such as magnets or jewellery etc or you can purchase inexpensive gifts from a local store or online. The fun is in the very different gifts that you receive!

OK so I finally got a facebook group set up that will be easy for us to invite people to and get approved. This is the link to the group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/531905086860979/

If we want the group to be more private once we have a couple of members or if it works to just keep the url here I will switch it to secret. As of now no one can see our posts until they are allowed to join but anyone can see who is members and that our group exists and ask to join. It would help out if you are serious about joining to FB message me your disboard name. I check my others forward everyday since I run two other groups. That way if we want we can keep it disboard members only or we can open it up to anyone cruising.

I thought a group would be better than a page because now we can put the fish extender list there and form meet ups and such. We can also pin any important posts so everyone can see it.

The fish extender list will be staying on disboards. I don't think it is a good idea to move it to a facebook page because not all of us on here go on Facebook. The list needs to be easily found on Disboards. Just my two cents.

No problem. Maybe a private google document then? My last cruise the organizer put it on one of those so we could have an easy to read format and make check lists for drop off and such. Also the link was put on the first page through editing the original post so we didn't have to scroll throw page after page looking for the newest update. You don't have to have google to see it you just need the link.

I only am thinking of other ways then just posts here because I saved the final file on my phone our first cruise so I had a way to plan a path of delivery and couldn't accidentally forget the list haha.
