Of course they know all the details, and track it. Any marketing organization worth their salt would do that. I'm sure it is coded in our Member Services info somewhere.

I agree that the codes we're seeing are for Primary owner named on the deed, and the R is additional purchasers that are listed.

As far as Disney actually basing perks upon resale or direct purchase, it is possible, but I think it not probable right now....but I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see it, either. It really depends upon what their marketing stats show, and what the data from other timeshares show. I'm sure DVC want to maximize direct sales, and if the available data supoprts cutting some resale perks, or adding special perks for direct purchasers, that is what we'll see them do.

I am the additional purchaser which is consistant with the R code seen, 3 Direct contracts. :hippie:

This is us. My parents were the original owners of our DVC. They have both passed away, and I inherited their contracts (my brother the other half). While my parents did buy all of their contracts directly from Disney, I have no idea how they would treat us, as resale buyers or direct buyers. I can tell you that they treated us very poorly throughout the entire process of getting things moved into our names. I assume they would give us the fewest benefits possible, considering how we were treated by member administration. It was such a heartbreaker for us, too, b/c my parents were some of the very first OKW owners. My mother passed away after they had owned for about a year and a half. My father absolutely loved that place. He took us many times and loved being there with his grandkids more than just about anything else in this world. He would never stay anywhere else. I know he would be mortified at how we were/have been treated. So, here we go again, I guess ;-)

I am sorry you went through what you did. This is very disheartening.

I assume our kids will be in the same position you and your brother were in before 2042. I have always thought our kids would appreciate us leaving DVC to them.

All I can say is I am very discouraged. I know it is a business but what did they have to gain from treating you this way? I am very :sad1:

I think one restriction they should add is on renters. The booking window for renters should be much less then owners. Also renters should not have "member" on their key card.

I am not in favor of any restrictions placed on rentals. Just a FYI, I have recently learned that cast members that purchase DVC are prohibited from renting those points. Interesting....princess:

Mine also says memberType=P, and I purchased resale.
Our first contract was a resale. Our 4 additional add-ons were purchased through Disney.

Our contract links all says, "Type R".

We purchased all our contracts from Disney and they all say R which I think stands for Radiant. :thumbsup2

I believe there are also restrictions on selling. I think they have to sell it back to Disney.

After a discussion with Jim Lewis last year, I contacted Disney and Market Metrix and made formal requests to obtain additional information regarding their surveys. Disney never responded and Market Metrix told me that their information was confidential. They did tell me that Disney and others pay to be included in their results.

:earsboy: Bill

It should come as no surprise that Market Metrix will not disclose details of their research. That's what they do--every process is considered a trade secret. Research gathering methods and outcomes would be certified by independent auditors, but they aren't going to reveal the exact means to anyone who inquires.

As for organizations paying to be included, that's the primary revenue stream for any research-oriented business. Disney wouldn't be paying any more or less than Marriott, Wyndham or dozens of other organizations who ranked lower in the outcome.

In exchange for their CM discount on the purchase. They are, in essence, compensated for those restrictions.

Changes such as these could benefit Disney in more than one way. As discussed previously, they would raise the relative value of purchasing directly vs. resale. Another advantage for Disney is such a change would likely lower the prices of resales. This could then allow Disney to buy up resale contracts through ROFR at cheaper prices making it profitable to then turn around and re-sell the points as the now more valuable direct purchase.

I am in no way saying that I agree with changes like this. Just a thought.

This topic keeps coming up lately here. My DW and I have now decided to wait until after the first of the year before we purchase our DCV membership. After much discussion and debate and saving enough to purchase a resale contract this really puts a damper on our plan. I never completely wrapped my arms around the timeshare concept, but found consolation knowing the cost of resale gave us added value vs. new because the benefits were the same at substantially lower price. If Disney initiates restrictions on resales then we won't be buying one and I seriously doubt that we would pay current prices for new. That would make a nice downpayment towards a beachfront condo for vacation and rental income.
