Janis Joplin - Does anyone else NOT get the appeal?

I like her, but not really her music, if that makes sense. Its the in me -- I feel like I would have liked her as a person, but she tends to scream, and I can't stand singers who scream.

There ya go. She didn't have the best voice but I love her songs.

I love Janis Joplin...even if her voice quality was raspy, at least she could carry a tune. She was hitting the notes. Bob Dylan, though....ewww...couldn't carry a tune with a backhoe. Same with the Beach Boys...come on, guys, hit a note, willya?

I like "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee" as much as the next person, but have never understood what all the fuss over Janis was about. I attribute it to hippies and drugs. Same for Jimi Hendrix, from whom I've never heard anything I liked.

Also don't get Neil Young or Bob Dylan. Like Dylan's songs...but only when someone else sings them.

I love, love, love, love, love Janis Joplin. I first got into her at age 17...I am 32 now and still love her. Listening to Janis, Jim Morrison, the Grateful Dead, Hendrix, etc. makes me nostalgic for a time in music in which I wasn't even born! Music was so GOOD then...how far we've become.

I never care for her. Bobby McGee was the only song I even slightly liked. Of course, I never cared for Jimmy Hendrix. He was an amazing musician, but his music sounded like random noise to me. I was a teen when they Joplin and Hendrix were on top. My brothers listen to them, but I never purchased their records.

I LOVE Janice. Her music wasn't traditional and her voice wasn't "pretty" but she had such passion when she sang I can't help but get caught up in it. Also, I adore the blues, so if you're not a blues fan maybe that's why you don't get it?

I just don't get it. I think she had the worst singing voice ever. I scream just as well, but nobody thinks I'm an icon.

If someone who DOES get it cares to explain it, I'm all ears.

Say it aint so. How can anyone not Love her? I think her music has actual healing power. There is something therapeutic about singing Move over and Cry Baby in the car at the top of your lungs
