Jan 9, 2010 Western Magic

Just found this thread, thanks to Luv2cruisedisney, John!

We will be cruising on this cruise with you all and are pin trader/collectors, especially DCL pins! I will bring my one bag of DCL pins because I won't have enough room for much more!

Looking forward to meeting some fellow cruisers we are Castaway Club members and can't wait for this one. I just hope the weather cooperates!!

Janis & David & Shelly (adult daughter) and Ethan 2 1/2 years old and 2nd DCL cruise!

See you all at 3pm in the Promenade!

Hi Janis

Glad you found it ok.
I am an avid DCL pin collector so I am looking forward to seeing whats in that DCL bag that you have :santa:

Yep, it took me awhile but I did find it!

Thanks!

I look forward to meeting & hopefully trading!

Janis

I have heard it's difficult to cancel Disney Reservations and specifically for Castaway Cay, so I have cancelled our reservation there for Jet SKiing. I don't think we will have trouble rebooking that if we want to. Our other excursions are not with Disney and they all have fairly relaxed policies according to the information we got when booking.

We have read 75 at Cozumel and 79 at Grand Cayman..since we are from Seattle and have been in Florida all week in the COLD ..I think 75 will be just fine...if not we shall jog !

Hey everyone. I'm sad to say that my parents will not be joining us on this cruise due to health issues.:sad2: Thankfully nothing serious but it would not be covered under insurance as it's a pre-existing condition. My parents were participating in the FE so you can scratch them from your list. Their room number was 2515. Oh and Newbydisney my mom was down for tea so you can take her off but I'm still in. On a bright note, we'll see everyone in a few days!

tow-mater-1 - Sorry to hear that your parents won't be able to make the cruise. I hope all will be well with them soon.

I think Fawn already left, and I don't think our cabin number had been assigned yet when she did the Meet & Greet/FE lists....

So, I thought I'd just post it here - it's 7005

Can't wait to see you all!

I was just looking at the "google doc" and it seems like there are a few of us right there together :yay: We just got our cabin assignment - we're in 7118.

I think it's Actuarian that said they always book 7120 or ? (sorry, can't remember the #), is that one of the cabins with the "white" blacony instead of the railing? or a "secret" balcony with the window cut-out? I was just curious...

I know everyone will probably think I'm crazy, but I just got a call from DCL offering me a free upgrade from Cat. 7 to Cat 4, and I turned it down. Yep. First of all, I actually PREFER the "semi-enclosed" Navigator Verandah (but not the white half-metal "secret" ones). I like the nautical touches, the comfort (love that cushioned bench), and the fact that I can still enjoy it even in slightly inclement weather because it is somewhat shielded from the elements. My mother also prefers it. But . .

For just a moment I considered happily accepting. The Cat. 4 they offered us was still aft (also my preferred location), but I am really fond of Deck 7 and don't want to move to 8. The deciding moment for me was when I remembered the current temps here lately. Until we get to Cozumel and Grand Cayman it is likely to remain rather chilly. I don't think my elderly mom would get much use from a regular "open" verandah in this weather. So I turned it down and we are remaining where we are. Maybe they will offer it to someone else from our thread. ;)

Sorry for the late notice. My TA just notified me that we have been upgraded from a cat 6 to a cat 4. Not sure it is going to make that much difference, but it's nice anyway:) Anyway, we are signed up for the FE. Our room number was 6616. It has been changed to 8572. Hope everyone can find me:) :confused3

ummm if anyone else gets a call for an upgrade please ask them to call me ok???pleeeeeeeez

FYI to everyone boarding this Saturday - The local weather forecast is now bringing the possibility of snow, sleet and rain, depending on how fast it heads down after it hits the Ocala area. Yep - You are reading correctly! Unless things change, it may be no more than 43 degrees (not counting wind chill) and either raining (showers) or snowing (flurries), depending on temps. I sure hope things clear up for the sail-away party. In fact, I hope the forecast is wrong and we get no precipitation.

Uhhhhh . . . Welcome to Florida - the SUNSHINE state! :beach:

At least there is a lot to do on the ship without braving the elements. :goodvibes

Not sure who is left around here, but I just got a call for an upgrade! :) So for those doing the FE, my new stateroom number is 2056.
I'm so ready to be on the ship now.

We're home....who else is out there!! Can't believe our beautiful week is over! May have been cold, may have been cloudy, but what a great trip!!! I'm ready to get out there on the high seas again tomorrow!

Just wanted to say it was a pleasure meeting all of you. Ladies tea was lovely, the FE's were fun, our meet and greets were great...this is one terrific group!!:banana::banana:

Hey, we are home at OKW for a couple more days of rainy and cool Florida weather!

Thanks to all of our new friends for making this last cruise so fun.....great group and of course our upgrade to a Cat 4 was fabulous too.

Sooo who wants to do it again...who rebooked what?..We booked Panama 1/6/2011: Western 1/8/2011: Thanksgiving to Mexico Nov 20 2011 and New Years on the Dream Dec 29 2011.....Obviously we will not take all of these but hey it never hurTS to reserve and decide later. Love the 10% AND SHIPBOARD CREDITS.

Hope to see you all agian soon!

I hope everyone had/will have a safe journey home. We didn't make any meets because my elderly DM ended up requiring nearly 100% of my time/attention. Her slow pace was a hindrance, but we both enjoyed the cruise. I do think I may have spotted "the group" at tea. My mom and I were sitting by the window. We also had the pleasure of sharing a table on our dining rotation with fellow DISer actuarian and his wife Jackie. Nice people and it was great getting to know them. :chat:

I am still booked for the 4 Dec. 2010 Magic of course, but the discount and big onboard credit for Platinum CC prompted me to book the 3 Dec. 2011 Magic while aboard. Will anyone else here be on either of those?

Even though we had less than an hour's drive from port to home, I am SO exhausted and sleepy. Didn't sleep much last night. My brain must have been in "time to get off the ship" mode. :sad1:

We made it home too after 10 1/2 hours of traveling:crazy2: I do have to say that the kids were great though. We rebooked on board too but not until Oct 2011 and just with the younger kids this time as the older ones will be in college. I also booked my parents with one of my kids so they could get the discount and on board credit. I have to say though, when I told my parents I booked them my dad was surprised at how much more it was than this one was going to be for them. So I went to the computer to show him his savings, and if I booked myself on-line with no "10% discount" I would save $439.69 for just their room.:confused3 So I will be calling my travel agent on Monday to check it out and see if this is correct and if it is I will cancel my existing ressie and rebook with her. Either way I'm excited I'm going again! :cool1:

tow-mater-1 - Wow. Really? Is it possible that maybe one includes ground trans or insurance and the other does not? That does not sound right. If the onboard booking agent messed up (which can happen occasionally), you should definitely call DCL about it. I'm sure they would adjust the price. The only thing with DCL is that YOU need to stay on top of things. When the cost of our stateroom was lowered by a thousand dollars for Florida residents AFTER we had made final payment, I had to call to get the credit applied. And if the price they show online is lowered even multiple times between booking and your cruise, you have to call them to have yours lowered. Otherwise they only adjust the cost of changing surcharges and government fees. Still, I always prefer dealing directly with DCL myself. :surfweb:

Whoops my mistake not theirs. I forgot to add a kid in that room. I had filled up their room with 2 kids on paper only for the cheaper rate of cat11 with my hubby and I with one child in cat 6. They would have actually only had one staying with them and that's where I messed up. They decided against it anyway due to the time of year, so now unless we find someone to take their place we have to pay for 4 adult fares and only 1 child :sad2:

Thank you for orienting me to DCL and helping to make our cruise a truly magical experience---thank you for all the wonderful FE gifts, decorating our door and participating in the FE made us feel part of a special group and contributed a lot to the magical experience of the cruise. I am sorry to have missed the reception in Fawn’s room---I was dealing (via email) with a crisis that had arisen at work and did not understand what my son tried to tell me about the message, by the time he was able to tell me about it we had missed it. We enjoyed the cruise so much it will be a let down to go on other cruise lines in the future (although we may to get to other destinations). Our servers were so much fun (Shantol & Gideon)! We hope to go on other Disney cruises in the future and hope to be able to spend more time visiting and sharing experiences with DisBoard members in the future. Thank you again!

Just reserved today for next year, January 8 Western.

We had such a great time this cruise, we're going back for more.

The weird thing is, as we're DVC members, the total points needed are LESS than was required this year. I don't know quite why; only thing I can think is that they've re-graded the Category 11s into 3 levels (we booked an A as we'd prefer being on 6 or 7 as opposed to 2) and that somehow lowered the necessary points. Still, I don't care how, I'm just glad to be going again. Our 4th Disney Cruise! After one more, we'll be Gold, lol.
