Jan 22, 2005 Eastern Cruise MAGIC Anyone?

It is 5 below here in Minne-so-cold. Only one more month!!! The nice thing about a January cruise is that the holidays keep us all busy for a few weeks. Hopefully that is making the time go by faster for everyone.

Hello everyone!

My DS10 and I will be sailing on the Jan 22 Magic as well. I haven't read much on this thread yet but wanted to say hello and hopefully I'll get to see some of you while onboard. This will be our 5th year sailing on DCL and we are still as excited as the first time.

Just quickly skimmed this thread and was happy to see that Mickeyfan4444 has a DS10 also. Although we thoroughly loved our cruise last January, there weren't many boys and that was the only downside. Hopefully we can get our two little guys together...it's much more fun if you have a 'buddy' your age to pal around with

In years past, we've always stayed at the Orlando Airport Hyatt but unfortunately, their rates have doubled and I'm looking for another hotel near the airport. Last year we got a great rate on Priceline for the Rennaissance and totally enjoyed that....included free buffet breakfast....hopefully I'll get lucky again

We're also doing 2nd seating for the first time. Last year, my DS10(9 at the time) and I enjoyed a late afternoon snack of pizza and ice cream around 5pm which naturally left us too full for early seating. Don't get me wrong, we certainly ate well but we've decided to do late seating so our afternoon 'snack' won't interfere with dinner

MCazer, Hope you are feeling better soon. The tropical sun should be very good for you. There are so many things left to do. I'm not sure where to begin. Usually I would be so much further ahead with planning by now. Glad to see all the children signing on. This is going to be a wonderful trip.

Hi Everyone!

We will be joining you too! Our DD will be 7 and we can hardly wait. Does anyone know if there is any possibility of getting any excursions booked at this late of a date? Also if any of you have been on the Eastern before what beach would be the best for shell hunting for DD---does'nt matter how big or small---anything she would be thrilled---this is her dream!! I do know that we can't take any from Castaway or the National Park beaches so if anyone here has had luck in this area I would love to know. Can't believe it's so close --now if I can only get things in order around here and start packing!!

Updating princess crazy with DD7 to the list. I am starting to feel better. The sickness scenario started with a sinus infection that led to pneumonia. Chest x-ray, antibiotics and cough medicine. Allergic reaction to one of the two (I think it was the antibiotics). Got a steroid shot and just finished a week of prednisone tablets. Well immune system breaks down with steroids and low and behold the coughing has come back. New antibiotics, new cough medicine and here I am today. Still coughing, but better and sleeping through the night. Thanks to the prednisone, the full body rash from allergic reaction is fading. All this at the worst possible time (Christmas/New Years). My dad turns 80 on Friday (we are celebrating Sunday). My sister and brother in law's 25th wedding anniversary party on New Years night. I turn 41 on the 12th, My daughter's birthday party on the 16th (22 kids at my house). And I have to pack and get better! CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!! LOL

And of course it snowed 6 inches yesterday~ yuck!

Hopefully we will be getting our docs soon. Apparently they come later these days. In January 2003, we sailed about this same time and had the docs before Christmas. Not so this year.

Be sure to post when your docs arrive! We can all do the document dance together.

Our DS will be 8 about 6 weeks after our cruise. We are hoping to bump him to the lab, as he has already done the club activities several times.

They are hot and cold on that stuff....AND I am trying to keep all that stuff at home so they can really concentrate on the cruise activities and WDW. They like everything and are easy to get along with. See you there!

Our DS9 will also be in the club. But we are leaving all of the Pokemon cards at home. (We have finally gotten him away from that in the past few years!)

There should be plenty of fun things for them to do though.

We have booked our shore excursions.
St Maarten...dolphin/ stingray encounter 7:30AM
St Thomas....Atlantis Sub 9:15AM
Castaway cay.....Glass bottom boat 9:45AM
Early seating for diner ( mom is a diabetic and has to eat early)
oh and we will be on the 7th deck


I talked to our travel agent yest. and they still do not have our hotel. That DCL have not released the information yet (although I did get our flights)
But they figure we will be in the one hotel in the airport.
anyone have any suggestions??

I have done WDW (always at the POLY) many times and a crusie but this is our 1st disney cruise.

are you all planning a meet on the ship?

Oh and a dumb question..... does anyone know if we can use cell phones on board??? we have a sick dog and an ill family member we will be wanting to check on.

I do know that in some places you probably won't be able to get reception on your phone from what I've read here and in the places you are able to it will probably be a pretty steep charge depending on your plan and the out of country charges. That may not matter to you if you have ill family members--you might want to give DCL a call just to check.

Was also wondering when you booked your shore excursions and what prices they were---if you don't mind telling me. I'm hoping it's not too late to reserve at least one for our cruise Anyway the time is passing quickly and we have so much to do here that I fear the 22nd of Jan will be here almost too soon!! Can't wait though!! Have a Great day!!

Thanks for the info about the phone. I have nation to nation so I will also check with my cell phone people. I also have a calling card with me.

as far as the shore excurisons we booked them 60 days out.
I am sure you can find something if you call them.
when you go to the DCL site and go to each island it list the excursions with prices you can also print out a sheet like you would fill out and mail in. It helped to look at what they have.
Price for the dolphin/stingray is $180. pp
glass bottom boat is $25.pp
and the sub ride is $75 pp
these are all adult prices
we were also told to bring our own snorkle equ. ( we have our own) this way we can go when ever we want.
