Jan 2009 Code Watch

Thanks Jennifer! I just priced out our package at rack rate (plus tax) vs buying the room at rack rate (plus tax) and paying full price for the dining, and tickets -- adding in my travel insurance to both....

6 nights at the POP- standard (2 adults, 1 child, 1 under 2) = ($554)
7 day regular MYW park pass (2 adults, 1 child) = ($649)
6 nights QS Dining plan (2 adults, 1 child) = $(222)
Travel Insurance = ($160)

The package quote from Disney - $1798.32

Buying the separatly - $1545.00 (rounding up a few cents)

That is a difference of over $250! ???????????????????:scared1:

I think I better get my R/O reservation and apply AAA discount for the best price....

AAA room discounts are usually a 20% savings = $110... My package will be about $1475, and that is before AAA ticket discounts about 5% ($32) . Total looks more like $1443 with AAA discounts, booking room only and the rest by separately vs. going with the package through Disney.

Total savings of almost $400!:woohoo:

Any thoughts? Did I miss anything?

But can dinning be booked separately, or does it need to be part of your package?

you can only purchase the dining with part of the package. Or pay per meal on your own if you did a room only code.

That is a great question -- I went to Disney Dining to find the prices and it gave me the option to buy it now. Basically you can only have the dining for as many nights as you stay in the resort hotels. (At least that is what I have gathered....)

Anyone else know more? :confused3

We check in on the 10th of Jan., Quick Service dinning doesn't start until the 11th. Since we won't be there until late afternoon on the 10th, I wanted the QS to start on the 11th, is this possible? When I spoke with AAA, they said no. I didn't book a package, but would if I could get the QS:confused3

You book a room only for the night of the 10th and the QS package starting on the 11th. You'll have to go back to the front desk on the morning to "re-check in" but you'll stay in the same room and everything.

DDPs can only be booked as part of a package (unless there is a code), so to figure the price "separately" really does not give an accurate idea of price.

The way to figure the price a la carte for comparison sake, you need to look at the following:
- Room (with AAA discount, if you have it and it is available)
- Tickets
- Food (which will cost more than you will expect it to)

When you look at food, consider where you plan to eat. If you do only CS meals, you are a lot more flexible but you need to look at the menus on this site or www.allearsnet.com and figure what you think you will eat and do the math. Do not forget to factor in snacks. Keep in mind, that if you do CS, you will have two snacks per day (each) which can go toward a continental-type breakfast (anyone know if the box of Entemens donuts is still a snack credit?) or you can bring something to have in the room. And, you will have the resort mug so you won't be purchasing extra drinks while at the resort.

The meal plans (regular and deluxe anyway) are worth it for some people and not for others. We do the regular DDP and always come out ahead because of the way we eat - snack for b'fast, CS for lunch and a sit down dinner where we do not consider prices - we would do this if we were on or not on the DDP, so we do better because of it.

With all of that said - still keeping fingers crossed for a code that allows for the DDP! :)

Thanks for the replies! I can't cancel my insurance/package reservation plan without losing my travel insurance (which covers my flight and is already paid for), so no AAA discount for me this time! Oh well -- I am confident there will be a great code coming my way!

Coming soon.... right?

We got AP rates at the Poly in January 2007. I want to say they were 269+ tax.

When do you think they January AP rates will be realeased? soon??

We've already booked a room only for the last week of January, but I'm going to join in here - hoping for a code to come along... free upgrades like we've gotten in the past... or, even better, free dining!

I just talked to someone at AAA. My package price through Disney - 7 nights at All Star Movies (preferred room) with 7 days of base tickets (2 adults, kids 6 & 9) is $1679.84. AAA's price is $1462.26 - $217.58 less. The minimum membership is $49. Still a savings of almost $170. I was waiting - with everyone else! - to see if a code came out for free upgrades, but it'll be too cold for waterparks and with 7 days, I don't need to hop. I'd rather have the savings.

The travel agent at AAA said I don't need to cancel my reservation and rebook at Pop (I'd lose my room at All Star Movies, because it's booked), I can just sign a form saying that my AAA agent is taking over the reservation and fax it to Disney. Don't even need to join AAA yet, so long as I do by our trip. Don't know if this might help the person who wanted to use AAA but has vacation insurance.

When's Mardi Gras? We were thinking of going Jan 31-Feb 6. I am wanting that time because of the supposed low crowds. We usually do the first week of May!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Disney Gods...bring us free dining!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

The wait is killing me!! I know the past years have been in late Oct/Nov for the general public, but I am so hoping it will be sooner. :scared:

I too am hoping for Free Dining this time! If it happened for December, it can happen to us in January, right?

Pixie Dust to all us January travelers! pixiedust:
