Jamie-Lynn Spears Pregnant...

Quoted from a website. However, this is 2003. I couldn't find another.
California:
Anyone who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under age 18 and the actor is not more than three years older or three years younger, is guilty of a misdemeanor
Anyone who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under age 18 who is more than three years younger than the actor is guilty of either a misdemeanor or a felony
Any person 21 years of age or older who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor who is under 16 years of age is guilty of either a misdemeanor or a felony

Louisiana:
Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile is sexual intercourse with consent between (1) someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17 or (2) someone age 17 or older and someone between age 12 and 15.
Misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile is sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 17 to 19 and someone age 15 to 17 when the difference in their ages is greater than two years.

I see...that's what I thought.

I'm surprised nobody is pressing charges.

Who would you press charges too though is the question. Jamie WANTED to have sex.

She did NOT want to have a baby.

Everybody likes to sugarcoat everything with names and charges, etc. The truth is, that Jamie Lynn had sex underage, nothing more, nothing less.

remember a few days ago when i said that nick should have a special aired about teen pregnancy and that linda ellerbee should post it. they must of heard me, because today i opened my newspaper and read this:

NEW YORK -- Nickelodeon is considering a special for its young audience about sex and love following the news that 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant.

The cable television network has made no announcement about the future of "Zoey 101," its popular program aimed primarily at youngsters aged 9-14. Filming for the show's fourth and final season has finished, and episodes are scheduled to begin airing in February.

For the special, Nickelodeon said it's talking with Linda Ellerbee, the veteran newswoman who has stepped in frequently in the past with shows on talking to children about difficult issues in the news. She's done shows about same-sex parents, AIDS, the Columbine shooting and President Clinton's impeachment scandal.

"I think it's important that something be done," Ellerbee told The Associated Press on Thursday. "But I think it's important that it be done in a measured way, and not just to feed the beast of news stories.

A Nickelodeon spokesman, Dan Martinsen, confirmed the discussions but said no decision had been made.

Spears, the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears, told the OK! celebrity magazine this week that she was pregnant. The father is her 19-year-old boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. She said she plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana.

Nickelodeon has made no comment beyond a supportive statement for its star: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

The company has received a mixed response so far from its viewers, and the news has launched a public discussion about how parents should deal with it.

"This is a great opportunity for parents at this moment to talk to their kids about this - more important, to listen to their kids about this," Ellerbee said.

Rather than focus strictly on Spears, Ellerbee said she's considering producing a broad discussion about how people know they're in love, when is the right time to have sex and what are the value systems of their parents and friends. It could air as soon as next month.

"Right now what Nick is trying to do - and what I am trying to do - is figure out what is the best thing to do for kids," she said.

One television critic, David Hinckley of the New York Daily News, wrote Thursday that to end "this sordid moment" with a lesson, Nickelodeon should pull the plug on "Zoey 101."

"If Nickelodeon keeps Jamie Lynn Spears because her product sells, it runs the risk that a valuable message it has spent years crafting could shift from `trust us' to `whatever,"' Hinckley wrote.

Although Nick executives are still discussing the future of "Zoey 101," it's considered unlikely that it would shelve the final season. The third season ends Jan. 4 with a cliffhanger episode about whether Spears' character continues to attend a boarding school in California or moves to London with her parents.

Executives at Nick's rival Disney Channel public relations crisis this summer when Vanessa Hudgens, the 18-year-old star of its "High School Musical" franchise, posed for nude photos that were leaked to the Internet. Hudgens apologized, Disney stuck by her and the issue quickly faded.

It doesn't matter if it's consuensual or not. The parents could press charges on Casey.

The parents let her live with him..they knew what was happening. They would never win if they pressed charges.
I know. I said *could* but they're obviously not going to do that.

I just don't understand why her parents would let her live alone with a 19 year old. :confused3 Oh well, their choice, not mine.

I'm glad that she's being responsible about it. If she ended up like her sister, I'd be sad.

But also- If she's 16 and her boyfriend/the father is 19...I'm fairly certain that constitutes rape. At least in NH, it is. The law here says that any person over the age of 18 engaging in illicit activities with anyone under the age of 18 (usually with an age gap of 3 years or more) is considered rape and the "victim's" parents may press charges. The age of consent in NH is 16, but if you're under 18 and your partner's over 18 your parents can still press charges.
Tis what I was thinking.......
just an observation, just looking for opiniosn is all, not trying to stir up any fights.

but here's what i'm noticing, most of you are glad that she's being responsible and mature (as am i), but when the vanessa-anne hudgens nude picture scandal happened, most (and i say mostly, not EVERYONE) people freaked out and were disgusted. Alot of people said "she's lost a fan", but no one has really said that about Jamie-Lynn.

So I'm just looking for opinions, what do you guys think is the difference between Jamie-Lynn's pregnancy and Vanessa Anne's nude pics? Which is more acceptable/forgivable to you? Why do you think people have reacted so differently with these two situations?

Again, not pointing fingers, or say one if "worse" than the other,or trying to cause "drama" I'm really just curious to see what everyone's thoughts and opinions are on the comparison between the two...
Personally, I think that Vanessa did something worse..........but thats just my opinion.........
I think only Jamie-Lynn or her parents can press charges calling it statutory rape. Since her parents let her live with him and she chose to sleep with him, I am thinking neither of those parties are going to press charges lol
::yes:: For once I actually agree with you!

There's no such thing as underage sex is there? Anybody can do it at any age.............
It doesn't matter if it's consuensual or not. The parents could press charges on Casey.
But I highly doubt they will............I actually can see them to blame a little. I mean when you let to people who are in love live together, more than likely something will happen............

::yes::

I know a girl who's 16 and she had a baby. The dad I think is 20. She talked to negitavely of him and how it was all his fault. Then she would come back and say she can't wait til she's 18 to live with him. Then she would go back to how much of an idiot he is and stuff. When I first met her I wasn't surprised she had a kid.........

I don't think having a kid is bad. It's their [the parents'] choice. I think as long as they can support themselves and the child and give it love thats all that matters........:confused3

There is a legal age to have sex, at least in Ny.

I still don't understand what parent would let their 16 year old daughter live with someone who isn't even in highschool!

Oh Lordy God, she's going down a great path. :sad2:

I think its kinda of sad.
I mean she clearly didnt learn from her sisters experience.

But, what can she do except keep moving on and staying healthy for the baby?
I wish her the best of luck for her and her baby.

Yeah my mom told me this when she was on the phone with me.
Way to look up to her sister as a role model -_-

Oh umm..I mean

"LEAVE JAMIE ALOOOONE!!!"

Hahahahahahaha.....

Sucks for her. But hey, she was on Nickelodeon. We should have seen this coming ;)
