Kimberh, this was the only resort on our trip that gave us a problem when we asked for bottled water for our room. I would think because of the distance we had to travel to the lounge that they would do this to make it up to us. However, they always just complained about it to us. As I stated before the BWI and the POLY was more than willing to give us bottled water. The POLY even told us to just take one of the bottled water at the drink station that was not opened.

The man at the desk said that the hotel was only at 50% capacity because of the construction,

The restaurants.... Both Boma and Jiko were great. We all enjoyed the food and the kids had no problem finding things they would eat - and they ARE VERY PICKY eaters!! :cool1:

With the resort being only at 50% capacity did you have any problems getting reservations at either Boma or Jiko?

We're going in November and haven't made any ADR's so was wondering if that was going to be a problem?

They were both very busy when we were there, the exception being Boma for breakfast. I'd make that ADR ASAP. We were there for free dining so that may be part of the reason, but they are both so good that I'll bet they're always busy!

Like Denise said, make those ADRs NOW!! Even at the height of the construction debacle at AKL, Boma & Jiko were always busy! (They're both GREAT, that's why! ;))

subscribing, we are thinking of staying at AKL instead of the Yacht Club for our anniversary/birthday trip next year. Decisions, decisions :confused3 I want to get more info on this resort. Thanks

Hi glennsgirl, I totally understand how difficult it is to decide on where to stay! For more information on AKL, can I recommend my AKL review from February 2007 to be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1484743 ?

Does anyone know if there is a little convenience store on site that sells items like milk, bread and cereal now that part of the villas are open?

At Jambo House (the main lodge), Zawadi marketplace is now selling that sort of stuff. They've added a bank of coolers (milk, juice, soda, wine, beer), and some food items (exactly the ones you mention above, along with donuts, chips, etc) quite recently. Keep in mind, you'll be paying "Disney Prices". :)

Sorry this is kinda long. I need some info. on the queen bunk bed room. My 2 sons ages 19 & 15 will be in our room this year, they are both 6 feet tall. Question, will either of them fit in the bunk beds or should I get the room with 2 queen beds? The reason for the 1 room is, it is cheaper than getting 2 rooms at a moderate, which we always get. We are usually never in our rooms anyway, just to sleep so, being that my daughter will probably not be able to join us on this trip next year, we figured it is cheaper than 2 rooms at a moderate, the boys don't really mind the idea of sleeping in the same room, they would rather have their own room of course, but if it is going to save us some money they don't mind. The beds at the moderates are so small, my 15 year old DS sometimes sleeps in our room in his own bed or cramped with my older DS, my husband & I sleep cramped in our bed and my DD & older DS sleep in their room in their own beds. I am hoping a queen bed and/or bunk beds will be large enough for them. Thanks.

They MIGHT be able to squeeze into the bunkbeds, but they're not going to be, IMHO, very comfortable.

I'm 6ft 3-ish. While I could lay on the bunkbed, I had to curl up my legs a bit because the footboard on the bunks were just a bit too "short". I'd suspect they're going to run into the same problem. And you can't (especially on the top bunk) really do "kitty corner" to stretch your legs out.

I was just "experimenting" when I tried them out...but my "take" was that I wouldn't have wanted to sleep in them long term.

...nice pix...thanks for sharing!:thumbsup2

Thanks! I've got tons more. We saw animals so often & I couldn't resist snapping away! Here's more:

Great pictures! What room were you in? The view looks almost identical to where we were.

We were in 3551--Uzima Savannah. Of the 3 pics I posted above, the first 2 were from our balcony, the last one is of Arusha Savannah, (I think--it's only been 2 weeks and already it is a blur!)

Seriously considering AKL CL for early December '08. Have tried to look through this thread, but it is soo full of great info, could not find the answer to our questions. Hope no one minds:

1.Are AKL CL rooms on the Arusha Savannah?
2.How is the CL staff?
3.What are the food/snack/beverage offerings?
4. Regular or privacy balconies?

Thanks ever so much! :)
(photos would be great too!!) ;)

We were in 4527 facing the Arusha Savanna. It was that last picture of the watering hole--it was right outside our balcony.
