I'd recommed requesting a 2nd floor, for the person who mentioned the respitory issues or was it comprimised immune system. Hopefully you would be far enough away from any smells.

This of course didn't even occur to me that they would be painting and i have respitory issues that are aggrivated by paint fumes.
Yuck, we are wait listed for nov for DVC studio, so now I need to rethink that plan. I can get sick from paint fumes, even if its been several weeks since they painted, my sniffer and lungs can still tell its there.

We have a short trip in sept planned, I'll have to check the resort out, and see.

I'll have to think about this...

You're right Kim! I really need to snap out of this negative, boo hoo, poor us attitude! I mean really, we are going to DW, and it's going to be fine. If it was really that bad, I think you'd see a whole lot of complaints posted right here on the boards, and unless I'm missing something, I haven't see that. So how awful could it be. I am just panicking because after all, it's our first vacation in 3 years, and it's a lot of mula.....so I just want it to be perfect. But it will be fine, just fine. They would not have an unsafe environment for the animals, after all, let alone the guests. And the noise? Well, I can probably count on one hand the times we are in the room between 9&5, so who cares. And if I hear some noise while I'm lounging at the pool with a big pina colada in my hands, who cares?
So when can I make a room request? I do like the idea of Zebra trail, and being able to view the animals as I walk to the room.....:)

I really wish you a lot of pixie dust to make your vacation truly wonderful!! I recently came across a thread here on the boards about how all the possibility of planning and all the information available people tend to worry to much and plan to much and if things go differently from what they have planned they are afraid that their vacation might be ruined. But if you keep in mind that anything you do will have some not so nice elements in it and don't let them drag you down, the rest will still be great! I hope this makes sense, I just wanted to say that a lot depends on how you want to see things and I think with your thoughts about pina coladas your on the right way! :goodvibes

I understand now that you have health issues to consider, but I am sure that if you find out that those really are a problem, Disney will try to find a way for you to stay there or move to an acceptable place!

I think this is the only attitude we should have - how bad could it be. Its Disney after all! If anyone can re-build a resort without having a negative impact on the guests, they can do it! I am not backing out at this point, may as well see how it is before getting too upset. Like you said, we could have bigger problems in life!!

Oddly though, when I called a few weeks back I asked if we were disatisfied with the condition of the resort and wanted to transfer would that be allowed. Absolutely she said with no mention of losing the free dining!!

I agree that a little banging here and there isn't going to run a vacation. Lets just see how it goes and wait to be pleasantly surprised.

Okay, that's much better isn't it? Positive Attitudes all the way around! Floss, you're right, we put so much into planning, and I know at least with me, I feel personally responsible for anything that goes wrong for anybody in my family! I don't know what that is called in psycho-babble, but I'm sure it's a syndrome of some sort!:rotfl: I just get all worried and anxious, and for what? It's just plain useless to worry ourselves over what we cannot change, and what is they say, 90% of what we worry about is not necessary? So to all of us going to AKL during this construction period, "here's to us! we are lucky to be going!" think of all those who would love to go and cannot. Now perk up, and let's start enjoying the anticipation, and not fretting about it, ok?:grouphug:

Absolutely!! I second that notion. Like you I have spent so much time planning and want it to be the "perfect vacation" for family. I bet if I lighten up and go with the flow, it just may be that!! Cheers!!

...how ya feelin', sweetie??

Pretty good actually-the doctor put me on half days at work today-my blood pressure was up a bit and I've been really swollen the past few weeks, so they don't want to chance anything right before delievery. If I don't go prior, I will be induced on August 30! Maximum one week left!

We're all sooooo excited for you! Take it easy (you should be in "nesting" mode now!!). We'll be waiting to hear details, when you get a chance. Congratulations again to you and Daddy-to-be! :)

Tig-girl - I saw a few posts (both in DIS and other discussion boards) from people who were at AKL in the past few days/weeks and sounds like there was no substantial impact by the construction. I think I can handle seeing a black drape without having too big of a fit!! So we should be in good shape and get the vacation we expected to get!! I feel much better and am going to stop obsessing about negativity and just be happy I get to go to WDW in just 3 short weeks!!! :cool1:

THAT'S GREAT NEWS!
Thank you for letting me (all of us) know that news. I did see a picture on another thread of the top floors with the black drapes, and my initial reaction was "oh, is that it?" "BIG DEAL!" Somehow I don't think a black drape is going to make me crazy either, lol. 3 Weeks to Go! I'm excited. And I realize that I have to seriously get things we need, like teeny tiny bottles of mouthwash, shampoo, etc. What is it the airlines allow.....3 ounces? Maybe I'll just live dangerously and pack full size items in my check-in bags!

I know!! I saw that picture too and thought "so what". It just looks like a dark hallway. The shots of the construction in the savannah concerned me more since I have a SV, but those were in June (I think) and am just going to assume I wouldn't be placed with that type of view. At least, I won't allow myself too that is. I have started my bin of stuff that I need to take. Its hard to pack early since its still warm here so I can't put our shorts and flip flops away yet. Last trip was during Feb so I had no problem getting our clothes all ready weeks ahead of time. Its probably better this way, I find the longer it takes me to pack, the more I throw in my suitcases!! :rotfl:

I actually had to go out and get new luggage because the airline we are using (maybe all of them?) changed the carry-on size to only 19" from 21"! You guess it..all of our carry-on's are 21"...now to big to carry on, but certainly not worth packing and checking in. SOOOO, I was going to get one big bag, but DH talked me into the whole set. So at this rate, I'll be checking 5 bags for 4 people, AND carrying on. What happened to my resolution to pack light?
As for your SV, I'm sure they are not going to put you in a construction area. I don't know what your room request is, but maybe that should be it...no view of construction! I'm hoping that maybe we will get a free upgrade to SV from PV...hey, it could happen! Your daughter is going to LOVE seeing those animals from the balcony. It's so cool. I'm excited for you!

Those are pretty much the reports I was hearing, too. The drapes, some noise between 9 and 5 (and not, like, earth shattering, ear splitting noise.....), and that's about it.

The pics you saw from June were of the new animal enclosure (I'm assuming) out on the Sunset Savannah. Again, from what I was told about a week ago, that's either finished, or close enough to finished that it's not really noticeable to the guests.

This is all great news. I am so excited I can hardly sleep!! Oddly, I told my DD the other day "only 24 days to go". Her response was "yeah, I really don't care about that'. HUH???? She really dislikes flying which is the issue. Once we get past that, it will be smooth sailing and she will be thrilled. I know I will be.

You are funny to get all new luggage instead of checking your bags. I guess thats smart then you have no worries with lost bags. I on the other hand was planning to check our bags and hope for the best.

Last time I flew, my bag came off the turnstile with "**** you b****" written on my bag in big black letters. I couldn't believe it. And I was on a business trip with people from my office so it was a tad embarassing, especially walking through the airport. They pretty much just replaced the bag and that was it. I hope for a better result on this trip!

WHOA! That's awful! We've been pretty lucky with bags, and maybe I should not be saying that out loud so close to the trip, LOL, but because we leave from, and fly into such small airports, it's all been pretty good. My DN is coming from CA, so for her, it's anybody's guess where her bags may end up. We are just hoping they make it to the ME and on to the AKL!

One week from THIS MINUTE I should be almost to Orlando!!:cool1: AKL here I come!!!

Oh and does anyone (my search feature is not working right now) have the construction map at AKL? TIA!

....well, it's starting to heat up here again, after 4 long awful CHILLY rain-filled days, so it probably is uncomfortable for YOU - I can't believe that your little one is almost here!! :cool1: ...I remember when you were excited about going to AKL and asking so many questions here on the AKL thread - now look, one year later and your family will now be THREE!

Question about the concierge Sunrise Safari.

Has anyone do it recently with the breakfast location change? How is the food? And about what time do you get there? We are hoping to grab something and go.

Thank you!
