Hello all! Back from 5 nights at AKL (3 cl and 2 savannah). We enjoyed ourselves, especially the kids! They got to go to Adventure Camp on Sat (10am-2pm) and really enjoyed it. Painted an ostrich egg, got a straw safari hat and a little goodie bag. They enjoyed having lunch on one of the verandahs, in a rocking chair (it was blocked off just for them) and a special tour of the lodge.
Sunrise safari was very nice as was the breakfast, we just wish it wasn't so early as we generally like to sleep late when we have the opportunity.
Concierge was ok but not any better than the Poly.
The rooms are definately smaller than the Poly or Contemporary. I wasn't sure we had gotten a deluxe for our first 3 nights until we moved to the 3rd floor and you could barely fit the two beds in the room. Guess that is why there are fullsize beds at mods and values.
I am still not sold on the buses as we waited 45 min for a DTD bus on Sat (while the kids were at A C) and then there were the folks who decided to walk in front of everybody waiting patiently so they got on the bus and those that had been waiting had to wait for a 2nd bus.

....we never waited any longer than 20 minutes - and THAT was because we decided to go to MK on EE and the first bus filled quickly, so we waited for a 2nd one.....boy, sometimes people can be so RUDE!

...Magical Express was very nice, I would definately do it again.
DDP was also great and we would definately purchase it for future trips.

...didja get your ME bus pins???

Does anyone have any info on the CL rehab and when it will begin. Just wondering if it will affect my November trip?

...I don't think so...I believe that it wasn't starting until 2007.... :confused3

(BTW ~ Day 2 is up (most of it anyhoo!) - it's Post #41....)

I've been told that "if" something is happening, it wont be until next year. And it would be to some of the rooms, not the lounge, so hopefully wont make much of an impact on those of us staying there next year. :)

Jenny, I do believe that was the day! And we almost gave up also because the kids were at Adventure Club and it was only until 2pm. We actually had a really short shopping trip because we were nervous about getting back on time.

Kimmar, it is just our luck with the buses. We probably get to the bus stops just after a bus leaves. My brother was saying that at Pop there are que lines for the busues. We got the pins, actually the kids got one set each because of our split reservation we wound up with two coupons. They were thrilled. I am going to start a trip report and hopefully it gets done sometime in the next few weeks! Going to read your day 2 now!

I've read lots of posts about how to override the A/C in the resorts, because they are motion sensored so when you're sleeping/out of the room the A/C kicks out to save energy.

Does this happen at the AKL? My fiance runs very warm-he is almost always hot (like most men!) and I really want to make sure he is comfortable....is there any trick to overriding it other than the balloon idea? For those of you who have stayed at the AKL, does it get noticably warmer in the room while you sleep?

...we did the night-vision goggles thing - it was way-y-y-y-y cool! You can see the animals VERY CLEARLY!! BTW ~ it's located by the public viewing area past the 'secluded' jacuzzi....

That sounds awesome! Does it cost money? Do you have to sign up for it?

...nope, just go to that location and wait your turn (sometimes there is a line of 3 or 4 people waiting to use them.....)...the CM told us they a pair of those night-vision goggles cost around $3,300! YIKES!

How exciting Kimmar

I'm so excited!!! After nearly a month of calling EVERY SINGLE DAY to try and get ADR's at Boma the night we arrive, it finally happened today!! Thank you pixie dust!! :wizard:

I made sure the first night will be just Akl stuff like night vision goggles. I have a dinner reservation at Jiko at 630pm and then the rest of the time just relax and enjoy the night. :goodvibes

Thanks to all on this thread for all your info. We just got back and loved AKL! We had a deluxe pool view, (5244 or 5422?) and it had bunk beds and a day bed. Housekeeping was great and we tipped every day. Got one towel animal. Ate at Mara twice and had the zebra domes as a snack on DDP. Great! Our view was great, and our room was right at the break in the hall with a window, so we could look at the savanna too. We explored the resort and enjoyed all the public savanna views, and saw lots of animals. Enjoyed the pool a few times. Got to do night vision twice. All CMs were so friendly! Really felt they went out of their way here to be welcoming. Regarding busses...., we were either so well timing our trips or AKL has THE BEST transportation of all the resorts! Never waited more than 5 min, even at the parks! Depressed to be home!

Me to Joe (fiance): Listen to this! They have night-vision goggl...
Joe: WHAT?!
Me: They have night-vision goggles to see the animals!
Joe: Oh man, that's awesome!
Me: And, they are FREE!

Yup, we are techy geeks. We are gonna love this....! Thanks Kimmar!

...okay, hurry along, let us take a quick tour outside....the first thing we encounter is the fire pit, where wonderful tales of Africa and its vast wilderness is woven into rich stories of tradition and folklore...

Ooh, I didn't relize there are ceiling fans at AKL so NO WORRIES about the room temp now. Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Glad to hear CRT is enjoyable too. I've read SO many bad reviews about it that I was a little worried. I'm not expecting ultra gourmet food but I hope it at least tastes good, especially after I talked my DD into it because I've always wanted to eat there (that was before reading all the poor reviews).
