If I remember correctly the Sunset Safari was only offered Mon. Wed. and Fri. or some such (at least that's what allears.net is saying ). I also see where they are listing a reduced price for children 8 -9 years old, too. Our guide had told us that they had been considering allowing children under 12 since management felt that that was what was holding attendence back somewhat. The picture on allears.net of the vehilce is not accurate, though. The new vehicles are larger and much more "open".

Also, I think I got a better idea of why the Sunrise safari is so better attended... I was watching "Undiscovered Disney" last night and they went into some detail about the Sunrise version. I guess it hadn't dawned on me (or I hadn't asked, actually) but the Sunrise is done in the park using the Kilimanro trucks. This, of course, means a far wider variety of animal life is seen (to include the "biggies" like lions, hippos, rhinos, etc.). Couple that with the fact that children are allowed AND you end up actually in the park after the breakfast at Tuskers and I can see where folks would consider that MUCH more convenient and desirable.

The Sunset version worked well for us since we were doing the Backstage Safari anyway one morning and I definately did not want us to miss having a dinner at Jiko. But, I can certainly see where for many folks the Sunrise would be a better choice. I'm pretty sure we'll do that one next time if for no other reason than so that I can maybe get a picture of the lions that isn't blurry!

Bob

Thanks again for all of your great info! It has given me more ideas.

Thanks for the reminder,I was wanting to watch this!

BriarRose Great Pictures!!! I just watched my home video I took of the lodge the other day to help me get more excited! Also this week Great hotels is doing AKL on the 26th.

Briar Rose those were some great pictures thank you for sharing. It makes me want to go back now and I have only been gone for 1.5 months. I have over a yr before I have the chance to go again, so depressing.

What time in Oct. are you going? If you check in by the 30th of Sept. there is a room code that you could use for $70 off a night. This would apply for the lenght of your stay.

Anyway, my fiance and I are planning our honeymoon (and we are both 1st timers!) to WDW in October and we've been pouring over the info and options for the last few weeks. We have gone back and forth on resorts, but keep coming back to the AKL. The biggest constraint we have is money, we must keep this entire trip under 3k for the entire week, including air and spending money....as we are going to Israel a couple weeks later!

We are doing the "Magic your Way Plus Dining" and will have tickets to the parks each day, so I don't think concerige will be a big deal to us, as we won't be there a lot to take advantage of the food. What would you suggest for a room? Is the Deluxe worth the extra cost? Does every room have a balcony? Do any rooms come with a fridge? (I know I'll have leftovers)

Lord, I wish I could scratch something off........ well, I did get DS's school uniforms....... so, that is one thing, now to buy the rest of his supplies............ :sad2:

Hey Janet ~~ You are right!!! I just used that code last week to add a day onto our trip!!! We added it to the beginning, so we arrive on the 2nd now. But, to the OP, it may be something to consider, it's a great deal!!! To add to tinknme's post, if you want to check out the code here's a link ;

www.mousesavers.com

Scroll down to the middle of the page, in the yellow area, look for room only discount, under it you'll see where it says you can apply it to a MYW package!!! Hope it works out and you can use it!!! *** MUST be booked by 8-18!!!

Scoutsmom---THANK YOU for your quick answers and very helpful info!!

Tinknme & Wendypooh--We aren't going until October 23, so unfortunatly that code will not work for me.... :guilty: but THANK YOU! for passing it on! Maybe, just maybe, they will have one for later October. ::fingers crossed::

And oh yes, I am sure I will become a Zebra Dome Addict. They have a coffee flavor, correct? Anything even remotly coffee flavored instantly transports me to Droolville. And I know my future hubby Joe will get a kick out of me chowing down on them, and I know he will quietly enjoy them just as much!! :teeth:

(this message board has the BEST emoticons! i want to use them all! :thumbsup2 )

Oh my goodness...I thought I was the crazy with the never ending to do list-something to do with my lack of organizational skills... :confused3 which is kind of funny because my plans for Disney are looking pretty decent... ;) :rotfl:

Wendy-we didn't get DD uniforms yet-thanks for the reminder...we did get the school supplies...and I don't begrudge her anything for school but my haven't school supplies haven't gotten pricey and elaborate?...I don't remember having having half the things she uses...and I'm not that old...well maybe I am :confused3 being a member of the '66 club... :rotfl2:...
