As many know by now, Disney has decided to convert some portions of the Animal Kingdom Lodge to Disney Vacation Club units. And with the change, is coming changes in the furnishings, that means a limited chance to have some of the amazing African furniture in your home.

Unlike overhauls of resorts in the past where we’ve cleared hundreds of rooms, and had a large supply of furniture pieces, this is a much smaller conversion, of a limited number of rooms. So, don’t lollygag!

Among the pieces available, this amazing armoire that is hand carved in Zimbabwe, dressers, accent chairs, curtains, mirrors, trash cans, kleenex box covers, even the mosquito netting accents that were used in the rooms.

If you ever dreamed of having a room like those in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, this is your chance!

Make sure to head to our auctions in the FOR SALE section of the website to own a piece of the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is adjacent to Disney's Animal Kingdom and opened in 2001. This resort resembles a small African lodge, built on a watering hole, near an extinct volcano. The watering hole starts outside the resort, runs inside, under a bridge, through one of the restaurants, and back out the resort.

The savannah which has no connection to the Animal Kingdom wildlife area, has various forms of wildlife in the 3/4 of the resort that it covers. You can expect to sometimes have animals as close as 30 feet from your windows. As you drive up to the resort, all you see is a small gathering of huts. The incredible size of the resort is hidden from the front. It will be like driving up to a small Safari Village.

Nightly by the large glass wall a Cast Member from Africa tells stories. "Safari Guides" are also on hand to educate guests on the animals. The lobby has a 5 story fireplace. Guests enter the Lodge on the 3rd floor. There is a huge picture window which looks out upon 33 acres of land. From here, you can walk out onto an elevated viewing area, Arusha Rock, and enjoy the roaming animals. Throughout the rest of the lobby you'll find examples of authentic architecture and designs. Rich wood tones surround the large mud fireplace and natural lighting will celebrate dawn and dusk with features that accentuate spectacular sunrises and sunsets. In the hallways, there are alcoves with glass windows providing Savanna overviews.

This hotel is uniquely laid out, with all of the rooms in wings attached to the main building. It follows the Kraal African Village design of a horseshoe, giving all but 100 of the 1307 rooms a view of the private wildlife reserve. The animal plains extend almost completely around the entire complex, stopping at the backsides of the two front wings. Guests will be able to stand on their balconies and watch animals and birds on the African savanna.

Today is a GREAT day! I was able to apply the "code" to our ressie and went ahead and booked DDP, I CAN NOT believe that we'll FINALLY be staying at AKL. I was worried that if free dining didn't come out that I would feel guilty and go to a mod.

I'm sooooooooooo excited. :cool1:  :cool1:

Just curious... You called TODAY and had the code applied? Had you tried before? Did you receive a pin postcard or email?

Sorry for the 5th degree, just curious. I used "the code" and supposedly have no pin attached to me, but the CM gave me the 40% deal without me even supplying the 3 letter code that starts and ends with Z. But, I know that's what I got, because it is on my confirmation letter.

aaaggh - it's killing me - c'mon December!!!! :woohoo:

Just curious... You called TODAY and had the code applied? Had you tried before? Did you receive a pin postcard or email?

Sorry for the 5th degree, just curious. I used "the code" and supposedly have no pin attached to me, but the CM gave me the 40% deal without me even supplying the 3 letter code that starts and ends with Z. But, I know that's what I got, because it is on my confirmation letter.

Sorry I just came back to this thread, but we talked about it on the codes board. But for anyone else that has any questions. I had called daily with a code but it wasn't one that had a Z in it, tried those to and they wouldn't work. But all of a sudden today I gave them the code and poof it was there.

d4est had suggested that it could be part of the YOMD and that makes sense to me. I had been told by CMs to continue trying because info could change.

Anyway we've not told the girls that we'll be staying there as they had picked ASMu but we were watching our plannin DVD and I could tell that they were impressed w/ AKL and the animals.:cloud9:

Okay, you guys, have y'all gotten a gander at the map for the new AKL DVC villas? Betcha y'all thinking maybe you should join DVC? Nope, don't sell DVC, wish I did! But this would be an awesome excuse to take the plunge!

Is there a link to the map somewhere? I'd love to check it out! ;)

Is there a link to the map somewhere? I'd love to check it out! ;)

Yes, CJsMom, there is a link. Oh, shoot, if I were on the ball, I could link you right up, but I am braindead! Let me work on it.

In the meantime, guess where I'm going tomorrow?! I got tix to the Tigers/Sox game down in Lakeland. :cool1: :woohoo:

Okay, let me work on link. This is a project for me.:surfweb:

Ok, I had a few extra minutes here at work. I drop on in to check on this wonderful thread and find out that they are selling off furniture from AKL. :yay: :yay: Must find out more infor. I go check out the site and wouldn't you know it....I can't get into the info while here at work. :sad2:

I read down a little further and see that there is a map and other infor for the AKL Villas. So I head on over to that site. yep...couldn't get into the map or see any of the pictures. Guess I have to wait until tonight on my home computer. :hourglass I can't wait.
