I keep meaning to post here but I've been shy. I just recently booked AKL savannah room for ten days at the end of this September! I didn't think I'd be able to pull of staying at AKL but I got a pin so I said, why not?

My bf was begging me to book us here and while I wanted to I kept doubting our choice till I started reading this thread!

This too is totally off topic, but I wanted to share with everyone on this board...

My DH and I found out very recently that we are pregnant! August 25 is the due date for our little one... Pretty exciting and COMPLETELY unexpected, but it's a good surprise!

Not really but it is pretty secluded so you can probably go out on the road and run to the right. With the animals, it is pretty controlled, as it should be. you will love it there - a different world from the rest of WDW. There are places you can go see the animals but if you are looking for exercise, you'll have to use the fitness center or go out on the road.

Isn't it great? I stayed up last night until I finished the whole thing. Big eye rolls from DH...

I can't help you with the ticker. I tried clicking on one and it didn't bring me anywhere. Then I tried copy/paste into my siggie but that didn't work either. Actually, I'm not sure I'm using the right word - "ticker". I'm referring to that cool sparkly Animal Kingdom Lodge "sign" that many people have - so I'm not sure if it's a "ticker" or just a picture. Anyway, my profile shows that I don't have permission to use "animated gifs" -so I guess that's why it didn't work. I must need more posts...so I'm going to post away!!!

Maybe we will run into each other at the AKL d4est - I think I saw you on the TGM site the other day while lurking in the December 2006 vaca club (recognized that cute picture of your DS sound asleep)! So we'll both be on the TGM "schedule"!

I didn't although we will have the dining plan. I got the pin(legally, it was attached no my house. no flames please!!) so I got 40% which ended up being the bigger savings.

I'm still having a hard time believing it all.

Just a note; We called to book a room at a moderate resort last night for our summer trip. Was informed by the CM we had a pin. Got a room at AKL for $159.00 a night. No Way we could pass it up!! We are AP holders,dont know if that got us the pin or not. These rates start May 28th.

Okay... I thought you found a cool AK ticker (countdown timer). Oh well. Hey-aren't we the lucky ones to be "in the know!" I am hoping the crowds are low & with TGM, it will be like we own the parks!!

Are you in a Savannah room too? I am going to decorate our door with the lime green Mickey heads, so if you see them, say hi!

No - it's just a sign. Some posts did refer to an AKL ticker (countdown timer) but I didn't see any. I was just reading somewhere around page 214 of this thread that Wendypooh made the sign - great sign Wendypooh! So how many posts do I need to add it to my siggie?

I have a question for y'all. We are doing the suprise birthday "budget" trip. I say budget in quotes because this has gone from 5 nights at pop to 4 nights at AKL in standard to 5 nights at AKL standard. I cannot upgrade again my hubby will have my head if I do. Anyway we are in standard so it would be cool if we got upgraded but I think that is about a 1 in a million chance. So where do you all recommend we go to check out the animals? And what are good times to be there? We will be there from July 30th ot Aug 4th. I would think in the morning before it gets to warm am I right? Also DS is in a w/c but I am assuming all the public viewing areas are very accesible?

You don't say when you are going - you might get lucky on an upgrade. Talk nicely to the CM and mention it is a birthday trip plus your first AKL stay. Won't hurt to email in advance too.

There are tons of places to see the animals - large windows down all the savannah view hallways as well as "rooms" around the lobby. You will see different animals at different places - they'll give you printed guides. They are out all day and night except mid-day when they take them in the barns for a couple of hours to get meds, vitamins, etc. The staff place food all around throughout the day so the animals tend to go where the food is. Make sure you talk to the CMs at various viewing stations - they are so knowledgeable!

As for w/c access, it should be okay almost everywhere if I remember correctly. Arusha Rock is the largest outdoor viewing area and should be fine. There is another one near the hot tub at the pool - two actually - one that looks out toward the savannah and one where you can see the flamingoes and any other things that decide to visit them. The only issue with the w/c will be seeing over the fences - will likely have to peek through cracks or have someone hold your DS up to see. Not every place has high fences though and the interior places for viewing will be above the fences.

Just wanted to share a little tip.
You know the soapstone carved animals and eggs at The Zawadi marketplace in AKL? They have them on sale in a new import section at Target! I got small girraffes for 1.99 a piece and large eggs (lion and giraffe) for 4.99 each for Easter baskets. We are going to AKL in APril so I thought these would make a nice touch.

Thanks for the map I will check it out Monday when I do not have little people around. Plus they are not making me feel very Disney today!
We will try and stay away from the high fences then. Because it will just be the 3 of us DH is not going with us this trip.
We are going from July 30th to Aug 4th. Since this is the week their bdays fall in. I am thinking not the greatest week to get an upgrade though.
