Gem,

Not that I spent a lot of time at either bar, but I think that Victoria Falls opens around 4 p.m. and the Uzima Springs Pool Bar usually closes around 4 or 5 p.m.

Any other tips first timers viewing the Lodge at Christmas?
Thanks :goodvibes !
AKL is beautiful at Christmas! Honestly, I couldn't imagine how they could pull off African/animal themed decorations. Well, last year I was pleasantly surprised. From the sign near the enterance to the magnificent tree it's all quite a sight!

Be sure to check out the public viewing areas close to the main lobby including sunset savannah, and of course Arusha savannah. You never know what animals you might see.

Leaving in 10 days for our very first stay at AKL. DH and DS dosen't know that I made ressie there they think we are stay at POR.......shhhhh don't tell them....:) Call CRO today to see what it would cost to upgrade to concierge and they had none at all, only deluix pool with out any discount at all.....OUCH!!! So I guess it will be just the "old" standard for us.....:P She was really surprised that nothing was coming up which leads me to believe that it will be crowed when we go......BOO HOO.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the AKL room safes? Are the dimensions the same for all room types (i.e. Do deluxe rooms or suites have bigger safes?) If anyone is going in the near future, would you mind taking measurements in case no one seems to know?

I don't know the actual dimensions, but I can tell you they are very shallow (not much deeper than the width of my cell phone); I couldn't put my camera in it.

I have an HP laptop (2 years old) and it was too big to fit into the safe. The newer, more compact laptops I'm sure would fit. To me, the "safe" looked like an electical panel door of some sort in the closet (like the kind you'd find circuit breakers in). Does that make sense?

I was in a Pool view room and a Savannah room, both safes were the same. Not sure about Deluxe/Concierge...

The strange thing is that I was told by a CM that they were designed to hold laptops. I decided to ask here because when I searched the DISboards, I found a picture of the AKL safes and they looked exactly as you described and I started to worry that the safe might be too small to hold my laptop, as it has a 15 inch screen. But it was a bit hard to tell what/how much the safes might actually hold with just a picture to go by.

Oooh cool, night vision goggles, you mean you can try them even if you're not staying at the resort? Where would we get them? The storytelles sound interesting to me too! Thanks :thumbsup2 !

.....there is a public viewing area way-y-y-y-y past the far end of the pool, to the left....there usually are several 'zoo-keepers' there, and they will explain the animals out there and let you look at them through the night-vision goggles....

Hi - I have a question that I'm sure has been answered before, so please bear with me. I understand there are coffee makers in the rooms. Do they provide coffee, sugar, etc. to go with it or do we have to bring that with us?
Thanks

Yes they do! They leave a packet of regular & decaf coffee with sugar packets(reg & splenda), creamer, & stir sticks.

:wave2: Just dropping in to say HI to everyone! I have been super busy at work and.....Our DSIL (the one just back from Iraq) and our DD were here for a nice long visit. Between their visit, training new employees and Getting ready for our Thanksgiving/Christmas AKL and Poly vacation I have not been on the board for some time.

Kimmar, I am so sorry to learn about your grandmother. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure you have many wonderful memories as well as your sweet family to help you through this difficult time. Remember, there is a huge group of people here to care about you. :flower3:

I have a LOT of reading to do if I am going to catch up with you all. I hope I can get the time to catch up. There is only 7 weeks until we will be in WDW :Pinkbounc

Briar*rose - Congratulations on your engagment. I am looking forward to reading your trip report. What a wonderful place to get engaged. Besure to let us know when you add the pictures. You know how we all LOVE AKL pictures here on this thread. :cool1:

A note on the room safes at AKL. I was surprised how much stuff I was able to fit into that small space. I don't know if it would hold a lap top. But it did hold our camera, wallets, mousekeeper envelopes and Disney Dollars. I hope they are big enough to hold a lap top. I now own one and plan on taking it to WDW. I am seriously considering doing a "Live from WDW thread". What do you think?

I have to run, but hope to be back later with a longer post about our upcoming SURPRISE trip. :rolleyes1
