Jaime's Flower Power Trip! NEW 7/05 CH. 62: The "Really" End **COMPLETED**

Hi Jaime..you crack me up! love your report so far! I read your last report on the Completed board and LOVED it! Couldn't reply though, the thread was closed - probably should have PMed ya! Anyway, you have another fan here & i'm excited you're coming home soon so you can tell us all about your trip... I imagine you are less-than-stoked about getting on a plane (!!) and coming home though. I hope your foot is doing alright also! Anywho, good job so far - can't wait to read more!

FIRST SOME HELLOS, THEN SOME INFO:

TiggerandTink - Hope you’re having a great time! I’ve figured out nebo and smidgy avoid Rhonda and I like the plague… I think it’s Rhonda’s fault. ;)

KathyRN - Saw your message at 3am before we left – thanks for the thoughts! Was way too tired to type THEN! NOW is another matter – watch out! Here comes a report!!!

ArielSRL - :welcome:

Glad you enjoyed the last report – I have so much fun writing these. I have reached the point here I walk around Disney, composing in my head… in fact, this trip – I was writing titles in the shower!

EastYorkDisneyFan - :welcome:

Thomas!!! Hi! Glad you dropped in! I thought of you during Illuminations the other night! Don’t be a stranger during this report (Man, my fingers are NOT used to typing! “THIS REPORT” was typed as “survey.rt.” HOW did I do that????? :confused3 )

__disneygirl :welcome:

Lia, Thank you. I feel the same way about the completed reports – and I do PM people a lot of the time, too. :surfweb:

INFO: Hello, everyone. We are home. We are safe. We all still have 2 feet. Sandy slept at Rhonda’s and the 3 of us are going to breakfast in about 2 hours, so I don’t have a ton of time to type (and what am I doing??? My priorities REALLY need working on!!!:rotfl: ) I will get started on the report today… this part is almost as good as the trip, IMO.

I get so involved in the writing of the report because I transport myself back in time (I user a Time Rover I stole from the Dinosaur ride). When Meg comes into the room to talk to me, I usually jump – if not scream – because she’s pulled me forward out of the time period I was in – the Disneyassic Era.

Let me get the 300-some pictures uploaded (that’s just MINE, I still need Rhonda’s!) and I’ll begin!

:welcome: HOME! I am glad you are home safe! I looked for you on the 29th at MGM but didn't see you! We had a wonderful day there. Did you still go there that day? Looking forward to the report:surfweb: I started mine already!

I hope they were only good thoughts. :rotfl2:

Hi jaime, it was great to meet you in person and ride POTC together! Glad your feet survived!

I can't wait to read them! So looking forward to the TR!

Hey girl!

Thought about you the whole week. Hope you had good weather and the piggies held up!

I can't wait to hear about it.

Guess what????? We are at 96 days! We finally broke 100!

Glad you all got home safely.

:)

WELCOME BACK!!! Can't wait to hear all about it....I was on vacation this week but not at Disney :sad2: and kept thinking about how much fun you guys must be having!!! Looks like you survived another plane ride as well :goodvibes

Hi Jamie,
I followed your link here from the ears2ears group (as I have for some of your trips in the past), but this time I just wanted to say hi so you'd know that some of us are following your links from there ...the pre trip was great. I'm glad to hear y'all still have two feet, as "how is your foot?" was one of the first post trip wonderings I had. I'm also looking forward to seeing how all the folks in your group liked AKL. I'm thinking if y'all did end up finding the treadmill you dreamed of, the one that spits out Disney Dollars in exchange for miles walked, perhaps I'll stay there as well!

SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2007 - Once Upon a Time...

PLANS: Fly down, Magical Express, check in at Animal Kingdom Lodge, head to Animal Kingdom, get Sandy on Expedition Everest, Finding Nemo the Musical, back to Lodge for dinner and exploring, early night

BREAKFAST: At the airport
LUNCH: Tusker House or AKL Food Court, depending on the time (CS1,2,3,4)
DINNER: Boma - 8:00pm (TS1,2,3,4)

REALITY:
It was a dark and stormy night… well, ok, actually it was rainy for 3 days before the trip… Saturday dawned bright and beautiful. I think. I woke at 3am, so bright was not an option. :sad2: Sandy, Rhonda, and Ruth had all gotten to bed extremely late Friday night. I, on the other hand, had planned ahead. :coffee: Tylenol PM – CHECK! In bed by 6pm – CHECK! I wasn’t asleep the whole night – WHY did the people downstairs have to congregate in the room under MY bedroom at about 8pm and make “toot, toot” noises???:confused3

But I was drugged and resting… that’s all that mattered. :rolleyes1 By 4:00am, I was down the block with my suitcases and carry-ons. Sandy was already at Rhonda’s – her town car was early. We loaded up the car and picked up Ron – Judi’s husband – to take us to Midway Airport. :woohoo:

Ruth is not there yet when we get there. Rhonda says she’ll wait off to the side and Sandy and I should check our luggage.

It's very early, so Rhonda blearily (blurrily?) waits for Ruth:
349%3B85796%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A76247%3A4ot1lsi

About 10 minutes later, Ruth arrives and they get in line. Just as Sandy and I get near the front, I hear the Southwest agent say something about using your confirmation number to check your luggage. I happen to be holding mine and Sandy’s boarding passes together and see that they have the same confirmation number! I flag down the Southwest girl and ask about Rhonda and Ruth being so far behind us in line. Because there's only 1 confirmation number, do we have to check all the luggage at the same time. Yup. I offer to stand to the side to wait for them to catch up, but she waves them through the line and we all get to check in right away. :wizard: Midway has a great check in – well, compared to Orlando… but that’s a story for another day (7 days, to be exact!)

It’s off to security! IDs out; shoes off – I really don’t mean to, but I “Ow! Ow!” out loud the whole time I’d not wearing shoes in the airport – not that anyone paid any attention; body scan – got through with earrings, a watch, and an Ace bandage with metal clasps – although I can bend the metal clasps with 2 fingers, so really, how much metal can there actually be there anyway?

Now, when we are walking through the airport, I notice that I’m out ahead and the 3 of them are following me about 3 feet behind. I turn and inform them that, despite what they’ve obviously heard, I’m not Japanese royalty and they can walk with me, not behind me if they want. :lmao: It’s a lost cause and will continue most of the trip. :sad2:

Needless to say, I’m the first through security, and pass the few minutes I wait for the 3 of them to get it together by talking to the security guard. Oh, yeah – I’m in Disney mode!

Rhonda wants coffee. I point out Pegasus. No, not the winged horse. The bakery.

Rhonda, Sandy, and I each get a large coffee (I would have gotten a small coffee – airplane restrooms are not much bigger than I am, ya know! But I caved under the peer pressure.:sad1: ) and a bottle of water; Ruth just got a bottle of water.

The plane takes off at 6:25 and it’s about an hour before that, so I need to eat if I’m going to take the Valium. And I am taking the Valium. Sandy brought cranberry loaf and grapes for us all. So it’s almost 5:30, I’ve been up for 2 ½ hours. I’m starving! I’m still on the steroids for my foot and have been eating ravenously for days now! I scarf down everything she gave us and 10mg of Valium. Plus the coffee. I need to hit the head before we leave. (Do girls “hit the head”? :confused3 )

I teetered across the airport. Wow. Really feeling those pills here. :cloud9: I almost fell twice. :headache: Then we get on a plane!

We had “A” boarding passes – in case you don’t know how Southwest works, here’s the Reader’s Digest version (in case you don’t know the phrase “Reader’s Digest Version”, well, you’re too young and I would like you to stop reading my report now… or go ask your grandfather... or nebo :rotfl: )

Southwest lets you check in online 24 hours prior to your flight. It’s first come, first serve. They do not believe in assigning seats. They have 3 types of boarding passes – “A”, “B”, and “C”. First, they let the people with wheelchairs and children under the age of 4 board, then the “A” group, etc. The closer to the start of the 24-hour window prior to your flight, the better your chance of getting seats for your entire party together.

In the case of 4 grown women – not a huge deal. But for families with children, sitting with the children is kind of important. So you get online 24 hours ahead of the flight and print out your passes. Of course, my computer decides it wants to be restarted 10 minutes before our 24-hour window starts. But I got it done, “A” passes were ours for the printing.

I was testing my new camera setting, where someone can be moving but it takes a clear shot... (1/1000??? I don't know - Meg set it up!)

This is your Captain speaking, I want more snacks:

And our first encounter with the Bad Shoe People:

You think that's bad, you should have seen her hot pink sequent headband!

Plane ride was the smoothest I’ve ever taken – and that’s NOT the Valium talking! I complimented the pilot on the way out.

Have you heard the “Crazy Frog” song??? As we were taking off, I thought it would be really funny to start going, “Da-da-ling-ding-ding-ding-ding…….” really loudly down the runway… we laughed about it at work for a couple of weeks. :lmao: I controlled myself. :scared:

COMING UP ON THE BACHELOR, I MEAN THE TRIP REPORT: Magical Express??? Seriously, do you people even know the definitions of either of those words??? [post=18573158]CLICK HERE[/POST]

I hope they were only good thoughts. :rotfl2:

 Always good, Thomas!

Hi jaime, it was great to meet you in person and ride POTC together! Glad your feet survived!

 Mo, it was a lot of fun - I wish I could have done the Friday night Adventure's Club meet, can't wait to hear about your whole trip!

I can't wait to read them! So looking forward to the TR!

 Me, too! I love writing these things!

 Yeah, Kelly! Double digits!!! We're at 121, I think.

 Tracy, a vacation that's not Disney? Yuck. :happytv: I have some info for you - the AKL mattresses are...(drum roll, please...) Sealy Posturepedic Encore 720 pillowtop. BUT, here's what I found out online today...

That is a label used by the contract division for mattresses made for hotels. You won't find it retail. However, hotels don't spend much for their mattresses. They spec out at about a level 3 or 4 in the regular Sealy Posturepedic line. There is a choice of comfort at each level. Pricing for that is on my website. www.ccmattress.com

I kept forgetting to look at the pillows... sorry. But happy mattress shopping!

bigbrian-nc.com - :welcome:

Thanks for coming over and posting!

:lmao: I love that other people wonder about my trip... but I wonder about other people's all the time, so I don't know why I find it so amusing!

All will be revealed about the AKL as we proceed - I'm not giving anything away early. All right, I'll give you this: I never even saw the fitness center...

Just keep reading, just keep reading, just keep reading, reading, reading... what do we do?

I LOVE THE SHOE PHOTO...WILL WE SEE MORE?

I'm all settled in and can't hardly wait to hear how it all went. I know you are in the cusps of a few more trips coming up...did you leave anything out of this one, with anticipation of your next few?

Ack! I know what you mean about the "Magical Express" - sometimes it can be ANYTHING BUT. However, it is still cool to hop on a Disney bus right out of the airport instead of taking a taxi or something. Glad your flight went so smoothly! Can't wait for more.

Thanks for the info Jaime!!! I see you picked an aisle seat - that's what I always do. That way DH can be sucked out of the plane first if something goes wrong! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Can't wait to hear about the rest!!!!!

Love it so far!

Just keep writing.. just keep writing.... just keep writing... just keep writing :)

Hey, great start. Those metal detectors can't be that strong, I have a foot full of titanium I haven't set one off yet!

Can't wait to see more bad shoe pics! You wonder what some people think.

Magical Express??? Seriously, do you people even know the definitions of either of those words??? - Still Saturday, April 28, 2007

Off the plane and into a bathroom (that should really be the name of all my reports, don’t you think? Jaime’s Bathroom Vacation. Well, joke’s on you – I went on the plane! (So did Rhonda) How else would I know that I do fit in an airplane bathroom? Not well, mind you, but I do fit. It’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there. :rotfl2:

Down we trek to the monorail (me, in front, leading the way). I position us at the back doors and snag the seats along the back of the monorail. Ooooh, yup – I got us seats for the 30 second ride to the terminal. I rule.

Across the terminal to side B, down the escalators, where I loudly announce to everyone in the Orlando International Airport, "Don’t judge me! I have a lot of walking to do this week!" :snooty:

Huh. Maybe I just realized why the others were always so far behind me…

So we get downstairs and get in a pretty big Magical Express line (maybe if we hadn’t waited outside the bathroom for Ruth to retuck her shirt and comb her hair... we’ll get back to this subject again… and again) :sad2:

I get in line and they all wait in the waiting area. I have my ME ticket booklets out and open (was that so hard, people?) and before I know it, I’m flagging them over and we’re getting in…

Wait for it... :hourglass

Wait for it... :hourglass

Wait for it... :hourglass

Another line. :lmao:

The only other time I used ME was in September with Meg and Goosebumps. We checked in and walked onto the Pop Century bus. This time we stood in line at least 15 minutes. We don’t make the first AKL bus and wait for the 2nd. I comment to Rhonda, "I’m not feeling the MAGIC. Or the EXPRESS."

I suppose I shouldn’t complain – you should have seen the lines behind us!!! And, once we were actually ON the bus, we left pretty quickly.

Our driver was pretty blah and the video they show was all Disney propaganda… well, helllllooo!!! I already paid for the trip – what exactly are you trying to sell me on??? Weird. :confused3

And I realize it’s a logistics thing, but it amuses me that the Pop Century folks get dropped off first, before the Coronado Springs and Animal Kingdom Lodge people. Paying more for your trip means nothing. Nuts.

We spot Expedition Everest off to the right, and it finally hits me – I’m home. :cloud9:

Rhonda had been smart enough to snag the front seats on the bus, so we were able to snap shots of the hotel as we arrived.

Getting closer:

Getting closer!!!:

349%3B94568%7Ffp6%3A%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7627%3A65ot1lsi

By the time the bus got to AKL, there were only about 10 people left on it, so I didn’t run to check in to get in front of the crowd. I strolled over as I looked around the lobby.

Honest first impression??? Huh, it’s a lot smaller than the pictures and Travel Channel shows make it look. First Impression – not so impressed. I don’t think it was as large as the Wilderness Lodge’s lobby. I would grow to like it over the days we were there, but that first look was… oh, please don’t use the word "impression" again… a little disappointing.

We only waited a minute or so to get to the front of the line and Carlos checked us in. I gave Carlos a big "Jambo!", which he returned and then told us our rooms were not connecting or even adjoining. No, no, no. Find something at least adjoining, please.

Here’s my huge blunder of the trip – Carlos conferred with an older gentleman, looked like the Front Desk Pit Boss, and came back with connecting rooms – 1 room had 2 queen beds and the other had 1 queen bed and 1 bunk bed; or 2 adjacent queens bed rooms. I screwed up and went with the 2 queen bed rooms.

After Carlos walked away, Rhonda said something to me about the bunks not being an issue, but I wasn’t thinking, I suppose. And I felt like we had been a bit of a bother – after he tells us how crowded it is, I’m asking for different rooms. I left him with an "asante" (thank you in Swahili!). Really easy to remember, if you’re old enough to know the actor – Armand Asante. Yum.

The tapestry behind the front desk (Meg's response to this picture? - What's that red thing?):
349%3B94568%7Ffp66%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A76266%3C7ot1lsi

Although it was a blunder at the time, I didn’t realize what a blessing having a separate room would be later…

Now I know why we don't use Magical Express... ;)

I would go crazy...well, crazier than I already am. :lmao:

The hubby and I have never been to the AKL so your comments are interesting - hope you have some more pictures of the hotel in the next installment because I'm very curious to see more.

And... is that red thing a bird?????

Thanks for the update! :goodvibes
