CHAPTER 5: THIS PICTURE NEEDS TO BE FRAMED! – Still Saturday, April 28, 2007

We’re headed to Dinoland. As we get towards the center of the park, I suggest we stop at It’s Tough to be a Bug. :3dglasses

No matter how hard I try, I cannot make myself lean back when Hopper says, "Wasps – arm your stingers!" I have never been stung… and probably never will… :sad2:

We wander over to Dinosaur after we’re done being honorary bugs, and we go through another ritual:

JAIME: I love this ride!
RHONDA: It’s too dark. Indiana Jones in California is the same ride, but not so dark. You can see everything.
JAIME: This is pre-historic! You’re not supposed to be able to see. Dinosaurs did not have light bulbs!
RHONDA: It’s too dark. Indiana Jones in California is the same ride, but not so dark. You can see everything.
JAIME: I love this ride!

This trip, I discover the joy of riding this with my ears plugged. I really do love this ride. Probably because the first time I rode it, during the pre-show, when they show you the Time Rovers for the first time – it looks like it’s a simulator ride (like Star Tours or Body Wars) and I cannot get in those little tubes of death! So, I was so happy to find out it wasn’t enclosed, that I embraced it whole-heartedly.

But it’s so loud! You can still hear it all with your ears plugged, you don’t end up with sensory overload, and you get the added bonus of really being thrown around because you’re not hanging on at all!

And Rhonda gets to laugh at the ride photo of me holding my ears! Which we did not redneck or buy.

Back in Dinoland, we check out our options… Primeval Whirl… Rhonda hates it… Ruth would never do it… and I don’t remember about Sandy, but I let it go – I’ll ride with Meg in September!

OK – I know I’ll lose some readers with this story due to it proving the level of my insanity, but it needs to be told. Back in December, 2003, I went to Disney with my now-ex-waste-of-space. We played some of the carnival games in Dinoland. He won me a stuffed frog (and I have no idea where said frog is now) and I won him a stuffed turtle. Whom I then kind of adopted because he was just the right shape to use as a pillow in the car or to press against your stomach when it hurts. Still have that turtle! Not so much the husband. :rolleyes1

Before we left on the trip, Turtle (that’s his name) asked me to go to Dinoland and win him a girlfriend.

Seriously, folks, you can’t make this stuff up! :thumbsup2

So, I steered us past the game where you throw the ball across a table of holes and if it lands in a colored hole, you win a prize… and they no longer have turtles! All the prizes are dinosaurs! How odd! (sarcasm, people… stay focused)

We decide to play anyway – that game is normally $3 for 4 balls. The girl manning the booth tells us for $10, we get $13 worth of tickets to play all the carnival games. Why not? 3 of us buy tickets, and all 4 of us play to get rid of all the tickets. All the other games were $2 each.

It took very long to get rid of all the tickets, because I insisted it was stupid to play against each other… why waste tickets when only one of us could win? :confused3

Well, I won a medium green dino on the ball toss right away. Then we went to the Whack-a-Dino, where I won a large leopard dino. Rhonda played that game next, and because there were not a lot of people, she won a tiny red – well, we argued what he was… looked like a dragon or lizard to me. Rhonda said dino. As we left Animal Kingdom, we asked a cast member what she thought. She seemed startled, and maybe a little frightened, and said 3 different things. She didn’t know. It was really cute though!

Here's Ruth playing Whack-a-Dino:

Neither Sandy or Ruth won at Whack-a-Dino, but we all played the game where you roll the ball up a little ramp into holes marked 1,2, or 3 and it moved your player forward that many spaces. Like a horse race? Anywho – Ruth won a HUGE dino!!! We laughed our butts off about how she was getting this thing home – she was the only one of us that only brought 1 suitcase! :lmao:

Before we left Dinoland, Rhonda wanted a Mickey bar. It’s about 4:00 and we have 8:00 Boma reservations. I remind her of this – and she calls me Jim! The nerve! [EXPLANATION: Jim was Rhonda’s boyfriend until she broke up with him last October. Jim would nag at Rhonda if she wanted to eat something and he didn’t. Or ride something and he didn’t. Or breathe air and he didn’t.]

I was not nagging, I was gently reminding her that she probably wanted to go to the new restaurant with a very empty stomach. Guess it came out wrong.

And, as promised in the title - THE PICUTRE THAT NEEDS TO BE FRAMED:

RHONDA AS AN HONORARY BUG:

Hey! Now I know what's over there.... we always cruised past the games in DinoLand!! Sounds like you had fun.

(BTW, ice cream before dinner has no calories when you are on vacation! ;) )

Kathy

Ugh! The amount of bad shoes are astounding! It would be funny to hear them complaining at the end of the day that their feet were killing them.:rotfl2: Does that make me mean?:confused3 Oh well! I agree about the ice cream, definitely no calories while on vacation.;) The pic. of Rhonda in the bug glasses is hysterical!:rotfl: Loving your report!:thumbsup2

 Brenda - Yes, I think it's a bird! I have a ton of pictures of the resort - and apparently, I have a fascination with taking pictures of giraffes... :confused3

On a different note, my first picture turned into a link when I edited... I remember you having this problem - did you ever find a solution?

Woohoo!! I got it right... it's a bird! :yay: It's the little things that make me happy. :lmao:

Yes, I did find a solution to that annoying problem. When you go back in to edit a post with pictures, at the bottom of the pop-up box you will see that that there is an option to "Go Advanced." Click on that and then edit whatever you need to and your pictures should be OK.

I hope this makes sense - if not just give me a shout and I'll try to explain it again (maybe by then I will have had some coffee).

Love your most recent updates! :thumbsup2

That was very sweet of you to bring home a friend for Turtle :)

I guess I'ma GATer too, I do the left side of the cashiers when everyone else is on the right and I move thru crowds like it's nobody's business...I have also been in charge of moving my crew off to the side when they stop in the middle of the road for decisions and map reading...I am also guilty of what you call Redneck Ride photos, yes, I take pictures of the pictures...funny thing is tho, those pics never come out well so I think that practice is over. I'm not a total redneck, my mission with ride photos is to buy the ones you can actually see everyone's faces on. Dinosaur is best for that, TOT is second on that list, RNRC is third on that list.

Keep em coming Jaime~I'm lovin it!

Great Job Jaime! Lovin it... Dinosaur is one of my favorites too. I'm excited to read about your Boma experience! I think maybe you SHOULD frame that photo of Rhonda, and then laminate it. And then get it signed by Flik. And of course Mickey Mouse himself. ;)

Made perfect sense - I will try to fix that post so all 3 of the approaching pictures show! Thanks!

Fine - take her side! :lmao:

That was very sweet of you to bring home a friend for Turtle :)

Turtle thinks so too - I keep finding him and the green dino on the floor behind the bed!

Great idea! I bet Flik would love that! We had other plans for Mickey this trip, but you'll have to wait until... let me look... Day 4... which I should be posting in July sometime...

So what else happens on day 4:rolleyes1

Seriously, great report so far and ummmm, when on vacation ice cream is ok anytime. It's a rule, really, it is.

CHAPTER 6: FOUND HIM! Still Saturday, April 28, 2007

We are now done with Dinoland… time to head back towards Asia and Africa… except I take us past the theater for Finding Nebo, I mean, Nemo… There’s a line, which means a show should be soon (at least, I hoped that was what that meant!). ;)

No, I knew there was a 4:45 show that day. So we get in line and it wasn’t very long before we were heading on in to the theater. As we sat on the bench (which, despite what I had heard, did have a back) for an hour (including show time) the bench did become very uncomfortable after a while and I wondered what the people behind me would think if I suddenly was sitting on a stuffed dinosaur???

Before the show started, I gave Rhonda the Cliff Notes version of the movie – we had never gotten around to having her watch it. So she understood what was going on - mostly.

Phenomenal is not a strong enough word. I may be biased – Finding Nemo is one of my favorite movies of all time. The creativity that went into this show is amazing!

While we were waiting for the show to start, the woman in front of us was listening to our conversation… I can’t even remember what we were talking about – I think EPCOT… She and her husband were new to Disney… oh, I remember (so don’t erase everything you just wrote about not remembering it… Wordy McTalkerson!). Shut up. We were talking about Extra Magic Hours at EPCOT. The woman turned to ask about it – but they were staying off property, so… you snooze, you lose. (So much for my "I won’t be mean" promise!)

The woman ran to the bathroom, and seeing as the place was filling up, I jokingly placed Freckles (my spotted dino) in her seat to hold it – we were on the inside aisle, only about 10 rows up – good location!). Her husband says that was fine, at least the dino wouldn’t talk so much. The wife thought it was cute when she got back that Freckles saved her seat. I didn’t tell her what her husband said.:lmao:

She then tells us that they have the Grand Floridian Luau booked for tonight. Yikes! Rhonda helped straighten that out. The husband, who had been ignoring the wife’s chatter, perked up and joined in! After the show, we wished them a good luau and an easy journey to the Polynesian, not the Grand Floridian.

After the show, we headed to Everest. Standby was down to 30 minutes, I believe. So Ruth found a seat and the 3 of us got in line. It wasn’t anywhere near 30 minutes – closer to 15-20, I think. Sandy did not want the front. I did not want the back. Without asking, we were placed in the middle. Perfect.

Sandy loved it. We found Ruth and said there was just enough time for 1 more ride, so she sat down again. We got back in line, knowing that this would be the last ride of the day – by the time we got off Everest, it would be after 6pm and the park closed.

Middle again – Sandy still loving it. And, somehow, I was not nauseous at all. Excellent.

***THIS BONUS EPISODE BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FACT THAT THERE WERE NO PICTURES TO GO WITH IT AND THE LETTER 'K'.***

CHAPTER 7: Don’t Make Me "Resort" to… Never Mind, I Got Nothing – Still Saturday, April 28, 2007

We meander our way out of the Animal Kingdom after closing… all the shops were already closed… hmmm, interesting… I would notice this again another day at another park… what happened to the shops staying open an hour after closing?:confused3

We check the bus board to see which stop will take us back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge - #6, I think it was – same distance as Port Orleans! As we approach, there’s a bus waiting… well, sorry folks, I can’t run! There is a bus driver manning the bus stops standing there and I yell for him to hold that bus for us (classy with a Capital K!). He waves at the driver to wait and the driver gets in the bus and pulls away. O-kay…:confused3

He apologized for the lack of communication and says he’ll go get us another bus. He disappears into the little shack and I figure we’ll never see him again. We are now at the head of the line for the next bus, so at least I’ll get a seat. Busses are really hard for my foot, because of all the little muscles you use keeping yourself upright – not that I’m saying your feet hurt any less after a Disney day… I’m just saying mine hurt more.:rotfl2:
So, I park myself on a bench while we wait. (that's Freckles with me!)

Before we know it, that bus driver, who I thought was gone forever, is back saying he checked on another bus and he apologized again for the driver not waiting! Wow! Do I know his name? No. Nice guy, NY or NJ, I think. I wanna say Mike.

Bus pulls up seconds later. Back to the resort – wow, that’s close! No naps between AK and AKL!

We head back to the rooms with a warning from me that I’d like to check in at the restaurant about 15 minutes early.
