Jackie at MS confirmed that most room requests will be granted only at check-in

I'm just back from BCV last night. We checked in on Sunday 8/17 around 2pm. We did not get our requests. When I asked about waiting for another room, I was told that all the rooms that met my request had already been assigned to people who had checked in earlier. I quoted what Jackie has been telling members and the desk people looked at me like I was nuts. They again clearly stated that in order to get my requests, I needed to check in early and then wait for it to become clean/available.

This is my concern. I am at the point where I don't care what the policy is, just let me know what it is and be consistant with it. This way I can do what is best for me to follow it! If the policy is as above, I am not as happy with it as the old policy (11 month priority), but I can work with it. I can check in the first night at my normal time (9:00 PM) to a studio and then the next morning I can check into a 2 bedroom! Just let me know what policy is really in place and follow it!

I think there is going to be a learning curve until the new system settles into place. This must just be a lack of communication or training. I can't imagine that DVC is going to implement a system that rewards 6:00 am check-ins. The "crapshoot" is nonexisistant in a sytem like the one this CM described.

childsplay... According to Jackie, the BCV have been using the "new" policy since they have been open (July 2002), so there is no learning curve there! What pixiechick stated above is how BCV has been doing in my experience since they opened.

If people should grow up and not be concerned about view, why did DVC find it necessary to institute a special boardwalk view category? ;)

Maybe my concerns will prove unfounded. We'll see how the system works and, hopefully, DVC will adjust it, as they have for BWV, if it does not.

There is no special BW view category. There is preferrd and there is standard. You can request a BW view, but you may not get it. It is not a special category.

Actually, with the recent change in reservation policy, it is now possible to be assured of a BW view at the time you book your stay. So whether you consider this to be a special BW view category or not, there are now two categories of PV at BWV: BW and garden/pool/canal views. Which you will get is known at the time you make your reservation. Of course the availability of BW view is limited, so you may not get it, but you will know when you book.

Maybe a solution would be to make a more realistic number of smoking rooms to fit the demands for the smoking rooms and thus eliminating CMs telling guests who have booked a smoking room to smoke in a non smoking room. Having a resort with only 5-7% of smoking rooms is really unrealistic considering the number of guests that go to WDW and are smokers. True the number of smokers has decreased greatly everywhere but 5-7% of smoking rooms does not seem to meet the needs of all the guests staying at WDW resorts. Just look at the number of smokers you see in the parks at both smoking and non smoking areas--many of these people are also staying at the resorts.
And I don't care what anyone hopes for, I sincerely doubt WDW will ever make itself any more somke restricted than it presently is. They get too many guests who are smokers especially from outside of the US, for them ever to go totally non smoking.

I stayed in a hotel a couple of weeks ago that made me sign an agreement to pay $500 if I smoked in the room. That's right... 500 clamolees.
The hotel was The Red Lion / Wyoming Inn, located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

I find this interesting and funny. The one thing I wish DVC would do is make smoking/nonsmoking a guarantee. This will stop most fretting. Aftr that maybe DVC should consider a limit on requets. Set up what can be asked for and how many. Of course be flexible for medical reasons. The thing to do with all faxes is throw them away.

I am new to DVC (very new) but I wanted to put my 2 cents in.
My interpretation of the 11 month window was to guarantee a room type reservation, not a request such as n/s, elevator, 2nd floor, etc.

Your getting your room type at your home resort before everyone else has the chance to book it. I thought that was the spirit of it.

Why does everyone think that they should get 2nd floor, close to elevator, day bed, bigger balcony, etc, etc????????

This sounds like all the gripes on the resort board about not getting these exact requests and then saying that resort was not good. :(

I am sorry if this doesn't come across as nice. I just thought the DVC'ers wouldn't be so unhappy about not getting these extreme requests.
ps...don't be mad at me...just an observation. ;)

I did want to add that Non-smoking is a whole different issue in my book. I think it should definately be something you can guarantee.

If WDW and DVC changes there policy( to non-smoking) at all of there resorts............guests would have a choice(including foriegners)...........don't smoke in rooms or..........pay $150-$250 for a cleaning via credit card. Or the easiest solution is to walk outside to

. If this change does occurs(it will in the future) to ns at WDW and all of there resorts will still be booked solid, and they will not be any drop in occupancy's.

We have to agree to disagree, because I really do not see as this realistically happening at WDW. Their non US parks are even more smoking liberal than Disneyland and WDW are!
I could be wrong but if we were in a betting situation I am laying my odds on that WDW will never go completely smoke free including their resorts.

I would think today the only way WDW goes totaly nn smoking is if the law requires it.

Thats what the smokers

thought in California,NY,Conn,New Hampshire, etc also. It is only a matter of time before it is the law for all of the resorts in WDW to become non-smoking.

You are right however you don't have the history of how it's been done for many years. Up until recently, the requests were ordered by date of reservation as well as medical related requests like non smoking for asthma.

Maybe. Only time will tell.

Even in most of those states and cities there are smoking and non-smoking hotel rooms. Plus in most of the anti-smoking states you can still smoke in the great outdoors just not in resturants etc. I sat in bar in California recently and watched the patrons leave and go outside to smoke all thur the night.

Florida did pass the no smoking legislation which is why ALL the clubs in PI are now non-smoking.

You can request a BW view, but you may not get it. It is not a special category.

Just in case others missed the announcement from last week, you do indeed book a Boardwalk view. If you don't confirm a boardwalk view at the time of the reservation and/or get on a wait list for the boardwalk view, your chances of getting it at check-in are pretty slim. It is no longer a request. It is a room type.

Kim, you are correct & well said. Booking 11 months ahead of time gives us a room/unit at our home resort. It never gave us guaranteed requests, etc.

I can understand everyone's frustration if DVC used to cater to the requests and now they are changing it. ;)

oh...ps...here in Phoenix...one of our cities is NON smoking in public period. no where no how. your own home or a ticket.
seriously....

and another ps...just booked a Disneyland hotel today and they are 100% non smoking. :) :) :)
