It appears Lawrence is officially cast as Katniss Everdeen in "Hunger Games.

She is 20 and my thought is TOO OLD!!!

I have not seen her in anything and have only seen interviews where she comes off as a complete bubble head!

Did anyone actually see "Winter Bone"????..or anything she has been in.

Is anyone else as disappointed as me? Can anyone offer positives?

I LOVED the books and wanted to see the movies done right!

Never read the book, but I looked it up.

I dunno, 20 is only 4 years older than 16. How old was Michael J. Fox when he played a college age Michael P. Keaton in Family Ties?

I had a bigger problem with Percy Jackson. He was supposed to be 12.

I didn't think Joey Lawrence could pass for 20 anymore. :lmao: Then I finished reading the post. ;)

I saw Winter's Bone, simply because I wanted to see all Best Picture nominees this year. The movie was 'eh' but she was good. I'm sure she'll pull off the role just fine. :)

Defiantly not the character in my head when i read the books
but she isn’t as far off as the kids they cast for twilight

To me, she just doesn't fit the bill for Katniss at all... she looks way older than 20 to me, and just doesn't look anything like Katniss does in the books. They'll have to completely alter her appearance, which of course they do in movies all the time, but they can't change her face -- and it just doesn't look like how I picture Katniss.

I'm actually really scared to see the movie... I loved the book SO much, all 3 books, that unless they stick extremely close to them and take no liberties, I know I'm going to be disappointed. :guilty: But I'm trying to keep an open mind!

:)

she does appear even older than 20 to me as well.

I agree with most of what you said - I really don't want to be disappointed!!!

To old, too sultry and too hard for Katniss. They can change her hair color, but I don't see the essence of Katniss in that actress.

I was hoping Emma Watson or Kaya Scodelario. Oh well...the books are always better than the movies.;)

I thought Joey Lawrence, too!! Had NO IDEA who was Katniss, either! You learn something everyday!

Reminds me of when they cast Diana Ross as Dorothy in the Wiz!! Say WHAT??????? :confused3

She is older but she played a teenager in Winters Bone and did it well. She was terrific in that role.

Loved her in Winter's Bone but I don't see her as Katniss. I hope she changes my mind; I can't wait to see it.

I just couldn't get behind a 14-year-old as Katniss, even though she's small at 16 in the books. Jennifer Lawrence isn't my first choice but I'm curious to see what Gary Ross does with her.

And let's get a Peeta already! I'd like to see Hunter Parrish!

I would've thought Haley Steinfeld (True Grit) for sure.

I was hoping they'd choose her.

I was keeping my fingers crossed that they did not choose Abigail Breslen as was rumored. As cute as she is, she's no Katniss.

I'm not familiar with the actress they did choose but I hope she's good.

She is exactly who I pictured Katniss to be. Jennifer Lawrence is too pretty. Forget the fact that she is blond because she probably isn't really she just doesn't seem plain enough.

I heard that Kristin Chenoweth is lobbying for Effie which would be excellent.

Now I could *totally* see Kristin Chenoweth as Effie!!

gypsydoodlebug ~ Thanks so much for the links to the videos... The Katniss/Rue one made me cry. :( Totally how I pictured that scene in my head. Whoever that girl playing Katniss is, I'd take her 1000 times over Jennifer Lawrence.

She'd make an amazing Madge, I think. Her name is Danielle Chuchran: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1058095/

Here's an interview from Gary Ross in EW telling why he chose Lawrence:

Looks like Suzanne Collins sat in on the auditions, which is pretty cool.

Also a bit surprised, but she is a very good actress, so may do more with the role ... time will tell. Also a big fan of the books ... read three times now!
