I read an article that the E-ZPass/I-Pass/iZoom/FAST LANE transponders should be accepted on the Florida toll roads that require SunPass in late 2011. Just wondering if anyone with these transponders has been successful?

Those are not accepted as yet.

I know there are long-term plans to integrate the two systems but I've read nothing about this occurring anytime soon. The Florida systems (SunPass, E-PASS & LeeWay) use completely different technology than the E-ZPass System (including I-PASS, iZOOM) of the midwest and northeast. The only way I know of to allow each system to operate on the other system would be to retrofit every toll plaza with sensors from the other system. Not cheap.

Incidentally, Maine at one time had a system different from E-Zpass. They replaced everyone's transponders and converted all their toll plazas to E-ZPass.

Based simply on numbers, I can see that Florida might have an incentive to put up EZPass sensors on its toll plazas but it would be difficult to get all of the the dozen or so E-ZPass states to put up Florida sensors.

Well if and when this happens, both sides are going to have to make the change to accommodate the other system. Florida is unlikely to just switch to the other system on its own. We have many, many toll roads and bridges here and millions of transponder subscriptions. I personally don't think reciprocity will ever happen.
