I've only ever noticed one of these rude types of passengers.

in front of me who wore a GIANT sorcerer mickey hat/ears (the big cone shaped kind). I did very politely ask if she would mind taking it off just as the show was starting and it became clear she had no intention of removing it for the show,

There are times that I wonder if people are aware that they're not the only ones on the planet.

Some of this is definitely a matter of opinion, and I don't just mean cultural difference in U.S. vs other countries. Have you ever been on the New York or DC subways at rush hour? If you don't squeeze against your fellow passengers to let another person in before the doors close, that is considered the height of rudeness because you are hogging space and making people miss their train.

I was thinking the same thing. I grew up in and went to school in small towns, but moved to DC for work. My opinions about acceptable and normal elevator and subway space changed drastically after commuting into the city on the metro.

This reminds me of a woman in front of me who wore a GIANT sorcerer mickey hat/ears (the big cone shaped kind). I did very politely ask if she would mind taking it off just as the show was starting and it became clear she had no intention of removing it for the show, and she did take it off then, but it just made me wonder... really odd what people are thinking, or rather, not thinking

We would never dream of using the adult only pools or loungers with a family, but as for families "wandering though" that was expressly allowed and even encouraged by the DCL staff when we were located far forward. We actually had a staff member on our first day walk us through the adult areas when we asked how to get from our stateroom to the family pool. I did find it very awkward, though (once someone yelled at us and a staff member had to speak up to say that families are allowed to walk through, just not use the pool), and I think it is odd they did not have a cut-through from the forward elevators to the family areas that bypasses the adult area entirely. We had the same issue one time when were trying to get to the captain jack meet and greet on deck 4 and didn't realize the aft elevators let out in an adult area, but at least there we get quickly get to the outdoor deck and walk around, unlike the deck 11 situation where it lets out right at the cove pool. It sounds like based on what the cast members were telling us is that they are adult only facilities, not adult-only areas.

I agree with you about the design is kind of odd. I never had a problem with families cutting through the area because they kind of had to if they didn’t know where the elevators let them out. My problem as I said, was families who were inviting their children into the adult hot tub with them. And also families who were setting themselves up for the day on the adult area loungers.

On both of these cruises my three sons were with us. In 2014 we sailed concierge, so our room was in the front of the ship. My boys knew that the area was for adults only, so they would always travel on the upper deck to get to the room.

I did notice on longer cruises not so much a problem.

Wow, I can't imagine DCL needing to offer kids sail free!

I suppose that early on, when they were trying to establish their brand, it was something that was offered.

Nowadays? Things would have to turn south pretty fast for them to do this.
Our cruise was in 2011. December, as a matter of fact.

Kids Sail Free was fairly often pulled out when needing to fill ships then. That was before DCL figured out *GT fares.

On the pool deck, they are adult only areas at all times, and are clearly signed that way. The connection to the concierge rooms on that deck is a design flaw. I do not condone people yelling at you or your kids for walking through. However, this may have been after a number of families did more than just walk through and the adult was frustrated. The Europa lounge area is not always an adult only area. Kids are welcome in all the spaces until 9pm, when the clubs become adult only. So, unless your meet and greet was after 9pm, moving through that area was just fine.

The signage going from the family pool to the cove pool does say adult only, but it is definitely not as clear when you get off the forward elevators. All we could tell was it didn't look right, and we look confused, so a CM walked up to us and showed us around to the family area. Also, thanks for the info, and good to know about deck 4 being open to families before 9pm! We just opened the door and saw it was a bar and immediately felt awkward for having kids in tow in what definitely looked like an adult bar area.

Agree it does make sense it would be less of an issue on longer cruises. Shorter cruises often have 1st timers (like us when we were forward and confused about the elevator situation) who still haven't figured out the ship layout. Obviously, for our second cruise we had cottoned on and didn't go that way any more. But the first 3-day cruise, we didn't even realize the midship elevators had an entrance on deck 11 since they are not super noticeable from the pool deck unless you know they are in there.

There were many post 9/11 - and continued for many years. But now - not so much - we except that DCL is charging a huge premium while removing the "premium" by saying "industry standard"

And this is just one reason I still love the Classic ships. I think the design in these 2 respects is much better. JMHO. :cutie:

We experienced a couple of these on our Alaska cruise this past summer....
Both occurred in the Walt Disney Theater. One night we got ourselves seated and two people, a grandma and a young child came in with an armful of coats, and proceed to cover about 15 seats near the front of the theater. They parked themselves at either end. This was probably 20 minutes before the show started. A CM came down once and told the lady that seats could not be saved, and she assured him that they were just outside. Another 10-15 minutes went by, and only about 5 more people had showed up, but they spaced themselves out to make it difficult for anyone else to claim an open seat. Again, the CM came by and said they could not save seats, and if someone asked to sit there they must let them. About a minute before curtain, another 5 people showed up, and then they all started re-arranging themselves as the lights went down. Very distracting, and there ended up being several seats unused.
Another night, we had our seats and my DH ordered a cocktail. It was delivered, he set it in the cupholder as the show was about to start. A larger man came in at the last minute (lights were still up) and sat in the empty seat next to my husband, VERY HARD, and caused about 1/3 of his margarita to slosh out of the glass all over my DH's pants. The guy just looked at my husband funny, and then turned away, no apology, nothing. My DH had to sit through the entire show with wet pants. So our lesson there was - order drinks before getting our seats, and ask for the drink to NOT be put into a awkward martini glass that has to sit in a cupholder in a theater (and always carry a supply of napkins, just in case)! I mean, if they are delivering drinks to movie style seating, shouldn't they put it in a more slosh-resistant container?

Some people don't understand their own body's impact around them. I was just on an airplane and the guy behind me used my seat as an anchor to get up and sit down. He literally pulled me back, hard, into a reclining position. And he didn't get it. He did it several times before finally settling in. I almost felt like I was about to get whiplash (okay, an exaggeration, but I was slammed back in the seat unexpectedly).

On my last flight I had a 40 something women put her feet up on the back of my seat and kick my seat the whole way. It’s like you want to say something but people are crazy you don’t know how they’ll react. The last thing I want is to have the plane diverted. I usually just keep my mouth shut.
I’m sure if someone started a thread on rude behavior on a plane it would be 100 pages long.

well if TSA did their job correctly (and they do - most of the time) you didn't have to worry about a weapon being used on you ... but like you implied there are plenty of B.S. Crazy people in this world!

I've encountered all 8 types from the list...regularly. Although with #1 on the list, bratty kids, there should be a 1A - the parents who think because they are on a vacation that also includes being on vacation from being a parent to their kids.
