Well, I got a call from my supervisor yesterday. The carpet company I've been with for almost 7 years is laying me off, and today is my last day.
I knew it was coming, but to be honest, I didn't expect to get "the call" for another couple of weeks. They asked me to relocate to Charlotte, but with Lauri ill moving is not a viable option. The said they would have needed me there by the end of March, so I expected a call in mid-March with at least a week or two notice. The "tomorrow is your last day" business was a bit of a shock.
They have been going through some changes for the past year and they've intensified the past few months. We had been representing Pergo in Home Depots in addition to our company but Pergo opted not to renew the contract, and the company has made some MAJOR changes to the expense policy that, even if I were staying, would lead me to job search anyway. The job used to be fun, but the changes haven't made it fun anymore.
So, last weekend I redid my resume, registered on monster.com, have started checking the classifieds, and have been checking with people I know for leads. Here's hoping the next "call" is for a job paying much more than what I was making before so I can call my old job and go "HA HA" like Nelson on The Simpsons.
