Well, I got a call from my supervisor yesterday. The carpet company I've been with for almost 7 years is laying me off, and today is my last day. :(

I knew it was coming, but to be honest, I didn't expect to get "the call" for another couple of weeks. They asked me to relocate to Charlotte, but with Lauri ill moving is not a viable option. The said they would have needed me there by the end of March, so I expected a call in mid-March with at least a week or two notice. The "tomorrow is your last day" business was a bit of a shock.

They have been going through some changes for the past year and they've intensified the past few months. We had been representing Pergo in Home Depots in addition to our company but Pergo opted not to renew the contract, and the company has made some MAJOR changes to the expense policy that, even if I were staying, would lead me to job search anyway. The job used to be fun, but the changes haven't made it fun anymore.

So, last weekend I redid my resume, registered on monster.com, have started checking the classifieds, and have been checking with people I know for leads. Here's hoping the next "call" is for a job paying much more than what I was making before so I can call my old job and go "HA HA" like Nelson on The Simpsons. :D

One never knows what to say when this happens, but I'm know that w/ your talent and attitude
it won't be long before that "perfect job" is yours...both Ed & I will be praying for both of you
and if there is anything we can do, please let us know..

My Lauree went through something like this several years ago, and it was the best thing that
ever happened to her...may the magic pass on to you guys..

Donna

Matthew,

I am sorry to hear that. But, I believe in your theory that the next one will say hey come work for and by the way it is twice what you were making before. Fingers are crossed and pixie dust your way. Good Luck!

Lori

Matt, I'm so sorry this happened, especially sooner than you expected, but I agree with Donna that something even better is going to come out of it for you. I really do believe that good things come to good people, and you and Laurie are more than good people -- you're wonderful people. I also know that being unemployed, even for a short time, causes a lot of stress, and I'm going to be praying that the call for your new job will come very soon, and that it will be one that you will enjoy and have fun with -- one that will be the perfect job, created just for you, better than you can even imagine!

Matt,

So sorry to hear about this unfortuante turn of events; it is always difficult to lose our job, no matter how expected, or what the circumstances--it just knocks you for a loop. But have faith, and hang in there, and know that everybody's thoughts and prayers are with you that soon you will have something come your way that will make it all make sense.:)

Matthew- I'm so sorry to hear of the abruptness of the layoff, even though you were thinking it might happen. You're doing the right thing by goind to "Monster"..just a thought...I'm a happy state worker in TX...Richmond is VA's capital, right? Maybe a state agency? Just a thought..

Sorry to hear that Matt. We are all pulling for ya to get that phone call... Can you sell RV"s

Matt,

Malcolm & I are so sorry to hear about what's happened. I know what it can be like. We and girls will, of course, pray and think good thoughts and send tons of pixie dust your way. No one as wonderful as you and Laurie deserve this. You've done so many wonderful things for so many people. It's time for somebody to do something good for you.

I know: Everybody should send you guys a pin!!

OK, I know you can't eat them, but they'll come arrive with lots of love and good karma.

Me first!! Where do we send them??

Hi Matt, This really hurts. It is a nightmare. Our prayers will be with you everyday. Still praying for Lauri.
John was out of work at one time and nobody knows what you are going through unless you have experienced it.
Good Luck you are a good person and good things happed to good people. shirley38

Pixiedust to you. Hoping everything works out for the best. Things happen for a reason. Sometimes we don't know what that is and find it hard to understand.

Can you cook??? Are you able to work well in a fast paced environment?? Want to relocate to RI?? :D

Good luck to you! Keep us posted!

Matt,

I bet I know what would cheer you up. Come to Orlando with Lauri next month!

In the meantime, lots of prayers and pixie dust coming your way. It will all work out for the best. I just know it.

Cynthia

Having worked for the same employer for 30 years I just can't imagine what you're going through right now but I am saying my special "Get a super job" prayers for you! They worked for my sister twice and she now has a great job.

I am a firm believer that things somehow work out eventually for the better even though they drive us crazy in the meanitme. And remember you have us all behind you to cheer you up!
(And don't take it out on those pins!!!!)

I am very sorry to hear your bad news.. I hope you find something very soon!

I'm so very sorry to hear this news......:(... even though it was sort of expected, as you say. I hope too, that things begin to look up for you really soon... The kids and I will be thinking alot about you guys.....okay, so that's not news, but now we'll be thinking of you even more now...;) If there's anything we can do from this end, you know how to reach us...:)

Take care and we'll talk soon...:)

Matt,
Sorry to hear about your lay off. My husband also just got laid off. However, we happened to have a job opening at my business so he only had off a week.

Too bad you don't live closer to Baltimore....I'm hiring!!!!......a compute wouldn't be to bad???

Sending pixie dust that your dreams come true!!

Connie

I'm so sorry to hear of your lay-off. Sending prayers and pixie dust that you find an even better job quickly!

Matt & Lauri, my thoughts & prayers are with you both. What specific talents do you have? What type of job would you like? You never know where that lead may come from.

Matt - I am sure you will land on your feet. And if selling RV's or cooking Italian food doesn't work out - we are always looking for a few good men.

Sorry to hear about this! Job loss is never easy, especially not with someone sick. Prayers and pixie dust that something heads your way quickly!

Ashley
