wish me luck. I'm more nervous about this than I am about my actual upcoming surgery. It's a 4 hour appointment- I hope they have tv's.:scared1:

Sending you best wishes sweetie, big 's, and prayers. :flower3:

oh, I have had this a lot! nothing to stress about! I bring my iphone and play games on it! but they gave me lunch etc...you are just sitting in a comfy chair! bring a xmas shopping list or crossword puzzle!

Yeah just bring something to read-i do this once every 60 days-its really not a big deal-kick back and relax.

You guys made me feel better! I'm such a wuss when it comes to needles. I charged up my mp3 player- took me forever- I kept messing it up, nerves I think.

I get them weekly - they are seriously a piece of cake! Mine are always done in a "chemo" lab with cozy recliners, TVs, snacks and drinks, super nice nurses, etc. Plus seeing the patients coming in for chemo is a nice dose of reality for me, I must admit.

It's just an IV - these lab nurses do that all day long. They are pros at it! Rarely do I even feel it.

I bring a magazine or two, plus snag any in the waiting room that look interesting, and watch morning talk shows and chat with the nurses!

that is where they do mine also!

Gee, the sister has the reverse problem. She is anemic, but has too much iron, they take blood all the time so the organs do not store too much.

She was turning all bronze looking and the liver was a mess. Some hereditory blood disorder.

Hemochromomyosis or something like that. I was recently tested and A Okay.
How come none of our grandmothers, great Aunts etc, had all the health issues we have today?

Good luck and I am glad so many here had the procedure to reassure you.

My mother has frequent iron infusions and she tells me that every time she goes, she's thankful that she just needs iron. Those nurses are angels, I swear.

I'm having a total hip replacement on 12/09/09 and my iron stores are very low- they are hoping to give me this infusion I won't need a blood transfusion.

You guys are right- they do this all the time- I'm sure it will be fine! :thumbsup2

Good luck with the hip replacement. I asked because my serum ferratin has always been historically low also (iron stores) and I take iron supplement daily. But lately, I have felt extra tired - of course working full-time, taking care of a house, husband, three little kids has nothing to do with it - but I have always wondered about asking for a shot at times when I feel more tired than usual.

Call and ask - lots of places have free wifi. You can bring your laptop. :goodvibes

Also, you can ask for local anesthesia for the IV start. :thumbsup2

I hope it goes well, and the time passes quickly for you.

A total hip replacement on 12/9?? Will you be able to come home for Christmas or will you have to go to a rehab center?

Good luck! It should be a piece of cake. I get them every 60 days or so. I think 500ml plus I get them to dilute it and run it slow so it doesn't sting.
Once in a while I taste something funky in my mouth for a few days... kinda like licorish. And because I get such huge iron transfusions, I sometimes ache on my left side. Not BAD, but I can tell.

I wish ours had TV's :/ They have 3 computers, but they are normally taken.

I made it through! I hate the IV in the back of the hand but that is where the best vein was  It took just over 4 hours start to finish :scared: but I had a comfy recliner, and a television all to myself. I wish they had a bed, I would have gone to sleep. My blood pressure was down in the 90's over 50's so they kept making me drink.......

Thanks for all the encouragement! Tomorrow I'm having a tooth pulled.... my week ROCKS! :woohoo:

Wow! You have a lot going on this week. :guilty:

If you don't mind me asking, why did you have an iron infusion? Anemia? You don't have to answer, I'm just curious.

Let your family take care of you for the rest of the week. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I'm glad it went well  We've been using the same vein for awhile and they told me last week I've worn it out. I only have so many, this was in my wrist, so I cringe to think where they find the 2nd best one. I hate the ones in my hand, too!

 on your tooth.
