its tough to be a bug concern??

I have read mutilple guidebooks on the diffrent parks and am deffintly taking my 7 yr old to the animal kingdom but after reading what i read im not sure we will like the its tough to be a bug attraction. Please tell me if what i read is true?
Okay i read that you might get a small shock as a interactive suprise during the show and that scares the heebie jeebies out of me. Whenever someone pulls out those prank things that give you shocks i get freaked i hate them and am truly fearfull of shocks of any type. Im also thinking if this happens my son who can handle most things will not be pleased. This will be our very first time at disneyworld and im just looking for a great time, im in need of your advice which things attractions or rides should i avoide if i have a fear of shocks even small shocks? I no it sounds stupid but if you can help me i would appreiciate it.

My kids hate this attraction. The first time we went, they were shocked when they got "stung" at the end. I thought it was alot of fun...but they don't want to go anymore.

It is so hard to advise on these type of attractions, some kids love it, others hate and leave screaming and crying and some adults don't like it.

I do know that the back rows are less intense than the front rows, so get there if you can, or can you view it first then decide. That way your day won't be ruined by a child ready to go back to the room.

The best book for advice with kids is Kim Wright Wiley's book.

It's not a shock or least not an electrical shock. The premise is that you are being stung, spit at or the bugs are leaving the auditorium by running underneath you. None of it is in least painful but it does surprise you the first time.

Go, it will be alright, Just be sure to explain it to him as it being funny.

I never wanted to find out just what that "shock" felt like either so I always sat a little forward in the seat. Still don't know if I just happened to get the seat without it each time or if I was sitting far enough ahead. I'm not much for surprises either. I like to be prepared!

Collette has the right idea - just lean forward in your seat. At the Honey I Shrunk the Audience show, DD12 always picks her legs up off the floor and tucks them under herself when the mice run out, so she doesn't feel the tail whipping part.

I have been to its tough to be a bug and it was o.k. however we did sit in the back row. My biggest concern was the bug factor because I HATE BUGS ( real or fake) and I was fine !!! We will be going back on it again.
I don't know if that helps you at all, but I do hope you try it.

There is NO shock people! A small rounded very blunt peg pokes you and it is more surprising than anything!

My daughter lost it in the honey I shrunk and we had to go out . The bug one when things were happening she just closed her eyes and held on tight to my hands. I will not do either of these and she was 6 when we went. The Muppet one she loved though.

I love ITTBAB, but I totally believe that it's not for everybody.

The "sting" at the end is very surprising -- the first time I went to the attraction, I screamed and jumped when I got stung. As did a lot of other guests. Also, if I remember right, it's dark when you get stung, and you've just spent some amount of time in the dark with a loud buzzing noise all around, which can be very unsettling.

If possible, you might want to try Honey I Shrunk the Audience at Epcot first. It's somewhat similar, but not as scary as ITTBAB (it never goes completely dark, if I remember right), so it might be a good way to get a sense of your child's tolerance for this sort of thing.

My 4 year old LOVED it last year, for my 2 year old she thought her life was literally ending as the room filled with smoke, I felt like the worst mother in the world. My husband is going to do it with my 5 year old this year (he's five this year) but my daughter and I will skip it. GREAT show though. My son thought the bugs crawling on the seat (or the feeling of it anyway) was too cool at the end. I think your seven year old would like it.

we went to this several times I am 50ish and love this attraction. my grand kids 15 and 14 years also loved it, it surprises ou will lots of little tricks that makes you feel partof the show but no real shocks.

I thought that I would forewarn my then 7 yr old DD about being "stung" in the end so she wouldn't be shocked. I explained that it wouldn't hurt. Well ..... she got herself so worked up worrying about it and scared that she was screaming and crying by the end. If you were anywhere near AK on Friday Sept 3/04, I'm sure you heard her. I felt awful. If I hadn't forewarned her, I think she would have been fine.
Funny thing is, we are heading back again this year and she says she wants to see it again! She'll be 9.

As others have said, it's difficult to predict how someone else will react, but fwiw I DETEST bugs, and I still enjoy this show. Our elder dd was 3 the first time she saw it, and she loved it. DD#2 was 2.5 when she saw it, and she was a little unnerved, but I was able to talk her through it ("it's all pretend--don't worry," etc.) She was also sitting on my lap, so she missed some of the surprise elements. I think that the "shock" (as others have mentioned, it's not an electrical shock) is what's fun about this attraction. If your ds really hates to be surprised, he might not enjoy it.

the "shock" bothers my back(cronicback issues) so I make sure I bring a coat and put it behind me. My 2 yr old hated it once the smoke came.

I don't remember any shock but we only went once in Nov 2003. Maybe it has changed. My DD7's issue with this show is the smell, she has an extremely sensitive nose and I thought she was going to create a bio-spill right in the theater.

The "shock" doens't bother me but the "bugs" moving across the seat underneath me does. I'm the "sit as far forward as possible" type but the bugs always get me. If your son is afraid of bugs, especially spiders, I would avoid it... If he isn't he should be fine.

MY son loves bugs and takes suprises fairly well, its Me and My fears I hate eleltrical type shocks or the type you get when you touch metal after walking a carpet those types of shocks and if know somthing is going to shock me I stay away like the plaugue but I will let my son decided if he wants to go on it.first off will do the mgm muppets show first if he likes it we will do its tough to be a bug. Thank you all for your help it means the world to hear from peaple that have been thru it before as for my son the trip is all for him so if we get there and he doesnt like somthing after me explaining things to him we just wont do it i would never put him on something hes not okay with and will play things bye ear when we get there if he says no then mom and him do something else its all about fun for us and besides if he doesnt like something at 7 all the more reason to keep comming back each yr and when he finally feels okay to do the things then he will really feel like hes growing up thanks to all your help and sorry for being a wimp with the shock thing and yes there are adults who are afraid of things even if it seems silly and yes if he must do the attraction then im right there with him i will just have to stick it out and when its all over i will probably feel like a big baby for worrying LOL.

i hate that attraction. first the thing they do on the floor to make you think that bugs are crawling around.....yeeeash!! i HATE bugs so that didn't do much for me. and then they have a stink bug that releases this godawful smell that i couldn't get out of my nose for the rest of the day and almost made me sick.

This thread makes it sound like you might be electrocuted. I am taking my nieces (3 and 5) this May and have the same concerns, although I have been to the show twice and LOVE it. We're going to watch "A Bug's Life" to get familiar with the characters, and there is a "sting" but all it is is a little poke in your back, that is surprising, but it does not hurt. Come on. It's Disney, for crying out loud. And the movie is really funny! The whole thing is kept pretty light-hearted.
