New question...

Does Disney allow me to bring my own fishing poles (for the kids to use) or do I have to pay $4/half hour for rental poles only???:confused3

This question's been asked before and no answer has shown up yet. I don't know myself but for more info, you could call the Resort Recreation Reservation Center at (407) WDW-BASS (407-939-2277). Check this link for more Disney fishing opportunities.

If anyone does call and find out could you post the answer here? Thanks! :goodvibes

HI~

We are going to be staying at POR this Sept 20-27. We wanted FQ, but no rooms were available there. I am kinda dissapointed, to be honest.
Can someone make me feel better?? I've never gotten the warm fuzzies looking at pics of Riverside..are my kids gonna like it?? Does the pool have a slide?

Also, what is a good building to request that is near everything (I have a standard view room).
Thanks for your help!

Brook~

I was looking at staying at Magnolia Terrace. It seem like a good location, close to everything. Am I right? Is this building non smoking? Should I be looking at a different location?

Hi Brook! I am so envious that you are getting in on the free dining! Wouldnt hurt to keep trying for FQ - I am sure a bunch of people booked 'just in case' knowing that they had to do is soon or miss out, who will reconsider their trip as time passes.

That said, we had a great time on our honeymoon at POR. Really, the only reason we are not doing POR this time is there were a lot of flowers at the mansions and flowers bug my dad's asthma, so we are trying FQ in 2 weeks!

They have redone the POR pool since I was last there, but I know I have been told that the pool/playground at POR are preferred over POFQ by bigger kids so I am sure your kids will do fine! And the boat rentals and the bikes are right there...

We really found the mansion side to be just beautiful to stay at:love: The grounds were gorgeous. We didnt really venture into AB so I cant help you much there.

Honestly, you will have a wonderful time! Look forward to trying something new and think about all that money you are saving on food!:woohoo:

If your staying at Riverside the FQ pool is not that far away to go swim at. We stayed in Bldg. 39 last year and it didn't seem that far away. You can take a VERY short boat ride to the pool also. I think that is what we did. But we did not swim in it because the Riverside pool was LOTS of fun! :)

Oh and we stayed a AB LOVE it so much we will are going there again it was so peaceful!

All buildings are now non smoking, however Magnolia Terrace is a good choice as it was non-smoking before the ban went into effect in 2007. We stayed there and were very pleased at the proximity to just about everything. :thumbsup2

You'll love POR... I know we did! :goodvibes Take a look at some photos and decide if you prefer Alligator Bayou or Magnolia Bend (aka Mansions). See photos here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/Photos/Port_Orleans-R/index.htm Once you decide which you prefer you can request (not guaranteed!) the building(s) you prefer. If you're leaning towards AB, try for buildings 14, 15 or 18. If you prefer Mansions, try for Magnolia Terrace.
The pool at FQ might be themed better then POR (I said might... I prefer the POR theming myself :) ) but the POR slide is definitely better then FQ. My kids (DD8 & DD4) were really excited about the POFQ slide because of it's appearance, but since it's rather short and slow they were much happier on the POR slide. In any event, as was previously mentioned, you can use both resort pools. We made a fun excursion of it by taking the boat, but you can walk over if you prefer. Hope that helps you out. :surfweb:

We stayed at POR last week. We loved the POR pool and tried the POFQ pool too. Very short boat ride and the POFQ dock is steps from the pool. Try both!

we were in bldg 39 and had a short walk to the bus stop. my girls are 6 and 11, and while the pool at fq was cute, the slide at por made it more fun for us to stay at our own resort pool. the pool area was dead, granted we were there for christmas (left on dec 26th)...but coming from 15 degrees to 75, we felt like swimming as soon as we landed. we go back in 100 days, and my girls have asked me to request the same room, 3905 is a corner room, 2 windows, double beds with trundle, and the absolute best part is when we opened the door, we were looking directly at one of the quiet pools. totally off subject, but my kids met alot of kids in that pool. i remember there was a family from canada..we have their pics in our camera. anyway, my dd6 asked if she could have a sleepover. haha, yeah, i'll drive her out of the country to sleep over the girl's houses.

I want to thank everybody for your responses to my questions about POR!
I think I prefer the magnolia side...
can I get a room there even if I have a STANDARD room reserved? I want to be kinda close to everything..

Thanks again!
Brook

We are planning a trip for Nov. 08 and have 3 children - really don't want to pay for a deluxe and POR looks beautiful. Is the trundle big enough for an 8 year old boy. We also have two girls 13 & 14 who will be sharing the other bed.
Thanks!
We also thought about a suite at ASM, but not sure if we want to stay at a value and pay more than a moderate!

my daughter is 11, and about 100 lbs and fit very comfortably on the trundle. anyone under 5 feet tall should be comfortable with no problem. we go back in 99 days, and she'll be sleeping on it again. your son should have no problems at all

Yes. We booked standard and were in Magnolia Terrace (we requested it). Didn't realize until later that we'd been upgraded to water view. :thumbsup2

As kxmeeh said, the trundle bed is intended for children under 9; or persons under 5 feet tall. Be aware though that they are narrower than a normal bed.

We will be staying at POR Aug 10-18 (missed free dining:guilty: but do have a 40% room code:woohoo: ). I initially thought about AKL since I had the discount code, but was concerned about the distance on buses to parks. We are looking forward to our stay! Park hopper, DDP and water parks too! I am hoping since it is not during free dining the park crowds might be a little lighter:confused3 ?
