Here goes....Stayed from Nov6-13 at POR. Got there around 6h30pm and bell service took our luggage (and a couple of bags from Publix) and ourselves to the room...and when we left they took it back too and kept them until we left for the airport (gave 2-3$ in tip).
I had requested a room in the mansions, specifically in Oak Manor. That's exactly what I got. We liked the room. It was a big room and the beds were comfortable...the pillows though were not that great...you could see the room had been refurbished.
Smoking rooms in Oak Manor are only situated on the 3rd floor. Don't worry there's an elevator.
It was also very quiet. We didn't hear any of the neighbors (though we know we had them).
The room had a fridge, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer, a coffee pot and coffee (included decaf) each poach of coffee had sugar, powdered creamer, shampoo and 2 type of soaps (face and body), styrofoam glasses for the coffee, ...NO shower caps though...Left 1$ each day for room service and mousekeeping was pretty good except for one day (no additional coffee or glasses and she didn't clean ashtray) so didn't leave money...next day had lots of coffee, coffee glasses and clean ashtrays (somehow I think it wasn't the same person who had done the room). oups! almost forget to mention that she also did a bit of fancy work with a glass towel and my toobrush...
It was a quick walk to the food court/restaurant and to the busses. We always used the main stop at the entrance as it's POR 1st stop (after POFQ). As well, we got into a bus a couple of times and it didn't do the run around the depot. Wait time for busses was ok most of the time. Only once there was no MK bus coming for more than 20min and there was a major line....then 2 came almost together. Of course when leaving the park at closing time / after fireworks, lines can be pretty long. For info. at MK they separate busses between POFQ and POR...the night we came back the line was so long we decided to get into the POFQ bus instead...either we would walk, take the boat to POR or get the driver to make another stop (which he did when there was about 10 of us from POR).
To go to DD we took the boat and it was very pleasant and relaxing.
Didn't get insect bites at POR but was bitten when we went to see HDD show at FW.
Didn't go into AB but saw it from the bus and there were people around there that were obviously construction workers...
Get those refillable mugs (2 kinds) suggest the one that actually closes so you don't spill it!!

We just got back and I believe the last boat comes back at 11pm (we were never out that late to verify, though).

I also remember the last boat being around 11pm...nothing prevents you from taking one of the last boats and getting back to POR via the busses that work until 2am...The boat lands you right beside the Rainforest Cafe in DD. That gives you a chance to look around and you can go to Pleasure Island and then take a bus there back to POR. (The other bus stop is close to the boat landing).

sheesh Im so narrow minded...I fergot about that
:)

Hi!

Just back after a 2 week stay at POR from 4 to 18 Nov. Refurbished room was lovely apart from one tiny point. Can they PLEASE use fitted sheets!!! Every night I ended up wrapped in the bottom sheet and mattress cover and it was a nuisance. Apart from that, the stay was brilliant. We were in Acadian (8214) and it had a Coffee Pot (says 4 cups but really only enough for 2), decaf and ordinary coffee, iron, ironing board and small fridge in the room. Decor was lovely and Mousekeeping up to its usual standards. Quiet pool was lovely and remarkably underused, but Old Man Island was busy. Prices for laundry have doubled since I was last there in 2000 - now $2 to wash and $2 to dry, but the convenience of clean clothes for the flight home was the winning point. Buses to Downtown Disney start from 8.30 to 8.45 am, but the Theme Park ones arrive earlier. A bit of a nuisance that the Boat to Downtown doesn't start till 11.30 (the shops mostly open at 9.30), but nobody could tell me why the boat didn't run earlier. Last returning Boat from DTD is 11.30pm - the buses run till about 1.30 or 2am from Planet Hollywood and the Marketplace. You can also pick up a Lynx bus from the Disney Ticket and Transportation Centre which will drop you near Sea World (costs $1.25 and I think it's a number 50) and you can also cross the road at stop 38 and get a Trolley to go up the I-Drive - very handy and very cheap too at only 75c!!

Visited the Candy Cauldron a couple of times for Caramel Apples (yum) and also went to the AMC to see Bridget Jones 2 - brilliantly funny!!! Also frequently to Ghirardelli's - I highly recommend the Chocolate Soda, Coke Float and Ice Cream Sundae with Hot Fudge. My taste buds said yum - but my waistline's not so happy!

Even the weather was kind to us this time. Just one half-day of moderate rain whilst at Epcot, but the rest was blue skies and 80 degrees plus.

If you're heading off, do have a lovely time and say hello to the ducks at the boat dock - I'm sure they'll be missing the twice a day feeds I gave them!

We were also at POR last week, for a 9-night stay from 11/10 to 11/19. The resort was lovely (it was our first time there, and my boyfriend's first stay at a WDW resort) and the room was very comfortable. We were in Oak Manor, and it was a nice, short walk to the main buildings. We never used the main pool, but we enjoyed the quiet pool.

The new mattresses were very comfortable, and the refurbished room looked almost perfect. We visited quite a few resorts and we thought POR was very nearly as nice as the deluxe resorts... Are all of the moderates as nice, or is POR special? :D

We took the boat to DTD a lot while we were there (my boyfriend got over-parked), and here's what I remember of the hours:

Before 5PM: Every 20-30 minutes
After 5PM: Every 10-12 minutes

Weekdays: Last boat at 11PM
Weekends: Last boat at 11:30PM

That may change during busier seasons when everything is open later.

I'm posting trip reports with photos later. We have quite a few pictures of POR.

Does anyone have a list of which AB buildings have been renovated? We leave Feb. 20 and would really like to get a "new" room. TIA!

Bump
I would like to know also!

We were there the week after Thanksgiving, and our building, #36, was renovated. I believe all of the further-away buildings are done, not sure about the rest tho :)

Do the rooms have a curtain between the sink area and the main room? I just got back from the CBR and the rooms there had the curtain which was really nice for getting ready in the morning and I'm wondering if POR has the curtains too. Are the only rooms that have the refrigerators the renovated rooms?

Cheryl

no curtains!

I don't know about the frig - we went in Sept and requested one - but were not charged.

We stayed at POR a few years ago (loved it!, it's my favorite moderate). Do all the rooms come with a refrigerator now? Or do you have to ask for a room that has one? Does it cost more?? Thanks!!

I know! I need to fix the photos on the first page... am going out of town and won't be able to do it for a little while.

How successful have you been in getting the area you have requested at this resort? Have any of you been bumped up to a king room? I requested a handicapped room and booked a double but would love to have a king. Are there any king handicapped in 14 or 18 that you are aware of? Do all the rooms now have a fridge? Thanks so much. We have never stayed here and would love any positive feedback you could give us.

When we were down in November they were working on a building right next to ours. It wasn't loud at all. The only time we really knew there was even construction going on was when we walked around the grounds...they were taking the new furniture to the rooms.

We are leaving for POR in just 22 days and we can't wait. Any words of wisdom or must see for the DD4 and DS3? DS LOVES horses, so I imagine we will take the carriage ride, do I need to make a prior reservation? TIA for any and all tips you can supply.
