It's the "little things"... what's yours?

It's been said, but I need to echo the sentiment: thank you for such a positive, happy thread :)

1)For us, our first day is always at MK, and the first thing we do is pick out the kids' ears. My 6 year old faithfully wears his ears EVERYWHERE he goes, and it has come to mean we are on vacation to see him in them :)

2) Riding TTA with my 4 year old. Although he enjoys the wilder rides, he seems to prefer this one above all others, and I love to ride slowly around the park with him and hold hands while we look around at all the beauty and wonder.

3) Hearing the kids yell out "Hidden Mickey!!!" whenever they find one (even if it isn't one that anyone else could recognize ;)

4) Having my four year old "trick me" EVERY time we ride Splash Mountain. In line, he turns to me and smirks and says "I've got a surprise for you!" and I say, "oh no, I'm not going to get wet, am I?" and he lies and tells me I'll be fine, then whisper laughs to his brother and dad. Classic.

5) Planning the trips with my husband, and realizing that we both think about the trip at least once a day, dreaming of how fun it will be. It is so wonderful to share something that joyful with him. It is almost more fun that the actual trip.

6) The graveyard cue at HM. My kids finally tried to go on that ride. They had a blast playing in the graveyard, but made us leave once we got to the entry of the stretching room. Oh well - there is always next trip ;)

7) The christmas lights on Cinderella's castle. Especially when you look at it from under the garland on Main Street. :lovestruc

Tell me the "little things" that make your Disney World, or Disney Land vacation so special. :flower3:

Here's a couple for me.

1. That first time you walk into your resort/lobby and dining area, after you get to your room, or unpack.(not when checking in) I always get the feeling of, "This will be my home for the next 10 days". :goodvibes I just want to soak it all in.

2. The first time I am on the people mover. That seems to be our priority when we get to MK.

3. The first time I am sore from all the walking. I tell myself, "suck it up! Your in DISNEY WORLD!" I swear I could walk another 10 miles.

What about you?
~I love to see & hear the water fountains at the Polynesian. I love hearing the tiki music throughout the resort and the lit torches at night are so romantic and gives me that island vibe. :lovestruc I also love watching the boats and hearing the boat horns, too. There is *so* much more, too! I just don't feel like typing it out! :rotfl:

For me its when we get off the monorail in MCO and are heading down towards ME and seeing the glimpse of those ME buses. Then having the CMs waving to you with those big ole Mickey gloves on.

Another one is when we are checking into our resort and the CM at the front desk says "Welcome Home", it makes me smile every time.

Also, sitting out on my balcony of our resort early in the morning with a cup of coffee in my hand watching the sunrise while the rest of my family is sleeping. Normally I am not a morning person, but when I am at Disney I love getting up early in the morning and just watching everything happen; from the sunrise to watching the CMs washing the pool deck and everything else :goodvibes.

For me, it was my DD's first trip and last trip. First trip, she was 9 and I don't know how to fully explain it, but we'd just be walking through MK and without warning, she'd jump up in the air, spin completely around before landing, while making this musical sound to no song I've ever heard. True Disney magic! Our last trip, she was 16. Before leaving home, she kind of had an attitude like, "I'm not a little girl anymore. I've outgrown Disney." Then we arrive at Disney and within 5 minutes she says, "I don't know what I was thinking. Disney is great!" LOL. One of my favorite all time quotes. Ok, ok, now I'm ready to pack and head back for some more magic!!

#1: Walking into the resort. No matter whether it's AKL or Pop, it's just "home" and you feel that sense of welcoming, everything's larger than life and amazing and you're just at peace.

#2: The first time walking into MK and seeing the castle, that one's a little obvious, but the magic never deminishes from that situation, it's always amazing.

#3: One of my little things is walking through AK, up to Asia & through the EE queue in the morning, specifically EMH mornings when there's still a tiny "chill" in the air and there's less people around, there's something about it that makes me so excited!

I have so many;

When the plane lands and you see all the American vehicles on the run way and you realise you're really there!
Walking up from the car to the main doors of AKL and hearing the African music playing
Getting the ferryboat to Magic Kingdom. Bliss

I don't post often but I am so enjoying this thread and wanted to share.

- The opening show at MK. "Good morning, good morning" And boy is it ever!

- Watching my kids enjoy time together. I have two boys who fight almost non-stop (at least it feels like it). At Disney, they are the best of pals and it warms my heart. Who said Disney isn't magical?

- Splash Mountain is our happy place too except we have a strange tradition. We can't stop laughing as we count Brer Bear's butts. Seriously, you always see him from the backside. Again, I have two boys and this counts as humor to them.

- PhilHarmagic. Again, it's the butt. Donald flying across the room and crashing in the back. Love it!

- Character meals - I still can't believe how star struck my kids get when the characters come to visit our table. It never gets old.

Thanks for the memories!

Thank you all for this. I am sitting here in the frozen wasteland that is the Northeast with a lump in my throat from all of the memories that we all share. I am glad I am not the only person who cries at fireworks displays...what is up with that?:goodvibes

THIS is the most magical thread I have read here in a VERY LONG TIME!!! I have read through all the pages and have had tears the whole time! So many memories, it is hard to pick just one. My daughter's first trip, she was a year old, and at that time, the characters were wandering around the MK. We had her in her stroller on Main Street when Pluto walked up to her. She got so excited! Pluto wanted us to take her out of her stroller so she could hug him. Those were the first steps that our daughter took! She is now 38 yrs old and we are going in 4 more days. She called the other day and wants to meet Pluto again! That is my most favorite memory.
When we are getting off the ME and see the resort that will be home for the next 9 days. Walking into the resort to register and have the CM smile and say "So glad to see you!" Hearing "Have a magical stay!".

Walking into the MK for the first time (this trip) and hearing, "Walking right down the middle of Main Street, USA", either for real or in my head. I can't walk down the street anymore, but I still remember doing it each time!
Seeing the Fountain of Nations and hearing the music. Wishes, Illuminations, all these things make me tear up. I love being at Disney, where the rest of the world is "outside" and I am happy.

This is the best thread I've seen in a long, long time! I'm leaving for my first trip to the World in one month from today and after countless negative threads, I was getting pretty bummed out. This thread is the best thing I've seen in weeks!!! I can't wait to experience everything I'm hearing about!

...Walking into a resort or lobby and that wonderfully refreshing blast of air conditioning!!! :sunny:

I like to try and imagine moments like those on days like today in the dead of winter.....:cold:

Watching my kids play in the fountain at epcot. We always seem to end up their during extra magic hours and I love that they don't want to ride TT again but would rather " chase" the water. Even better is last trip they were 10 and 13 and on DD's actual birthday she could pick anywhere on property to be and she choose playing in the fountain with her "sissy". The park was open late and we had the whole area to our selves. DH and I just watched them and both said "and this is why we love Disney".

Why? What does it smell like? What am I missing??? :rotfl:

The scent is called White Tea & Aloe. Most Westin's include lotion, shampoo, conditioner and soap of the same scent in their rooms, but the Swan and Dolphin both use the Sheraton branded toiletries. The Swan lobby has that smell. Whenever we stay at a Westin I ask for more toiletries.

You can also buy the toiletries online at westin-hotelsathome.com. They sell candles too, but the scent isn't quite right.

I completely second the opinion regarding the Swan lobby. It smells like heaven. I bought the Laila perfume (although from nordstrom) and I sure wish they bottled and sold the Swan scent. My house would smell amazing.

They sell toiletries online at westin-hotelsathome.com and the regular Westin Hotels have that scent of toiletries in the rooms.

The trolley show at MK

Seeing the castle, gets me every time, even though I've seen it a thousand times, I still tear up at the sight of it.

My son, who is 6 now, pointing to the castle, saying remember when we got to sleep there mom? He was 18 months old and remembers that!

Sitting in a rocking chair at Crockett's Tavern watching the kids on the playground without a worry in the world.

Those purple seats on the buses

The sign over the Magic Kingdom train tunnel into the park "here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy"

The Roy Disney window on Main Street

Dusk in Tomorrowland

The lights of Magic Kingdom at night

Those furry creature details on the columns at the new Fantasyland expansion

The Casey statue that's marked my son's growth on every trip

caseythroughtheyears.jpg

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Casey pictures of your son! What an awesome idea! I also like the cute Sci Fi Dine In family photos in your ticker. Why do they have to grow up so fast???? Mine are 14 and 16 right now and I'm dreading the empty nest in just 3 short years:worried:.
