it's raining...it's pouring

I'm trying to figure out what the masses would do....

On our recent visit we spent one entire afternoon in the rain. All bundled up in our ponchos, we kept going like the web-footed swamp rats we are . Of course, I couldn't help but overhear some negative comments about it not being the appropriate weather for the little ones (it was upper 70's with a steady rain - no thunderstorms).

So, whaddya think? Are you the commando type who doesn't mind a little liquid sunshine? Rain OK, but no way when the skies are lit up with lightning? Or, are you afraid to get your hair mussed up and the clothes a little damp, so you run for the exits at the first few sprinkles??

I'd love to hear the opinions!

I live in FL, so I'm used to it. Everytime DH and I have gone to Disney we have only had to deal with rain on one day each trip. Does that make sense? In 98, it rained one day for about 15 minutes and in 2001 it rained one day for about 20 minutes. Both the days it rained, we were in EPCOT. Isn't that kinda cool though?

I voted for the first option, because we do keep on going(maybe duck in a door way for a few minutes if its a passing shower). However I cant say I dont mind it,I do, but I deal with it.

I voted for Keep Going.......but we have never been rained on at WDW! One day the pixie dust may wear off, then we will keep going in the rain, unless we see lightning or its too cold.

I voted #2! I'm used to FL weather also and I know first hand how many people ignore the lightning - not understanding what kind of damage it can do! I definately would not go outside if lightning is anywhere in the vicinity!

We survived the third week in August last year....we opt for getting soaked to the bone. It's warm water!!! It's just that lightning that gets me. But, it has to be pretty bad for me to head for shelter.

The rain doesn't stop us but something about Florida and lightening makes me nervous.

It usually only rains about 15 minutes, and most people leave the parks, so its a great time to get in line for the best rides!!!! We come prepared for that afternoon shower and take it in stride =)

I've been to WDW 9 times and I can happily say that it has rained only a few days. I usually just get a poncho and deal with it. If it starts thundering and lightning, then I go inside somewhere but that only lasts for a little while.

I love it especially when it rains later in the day, like at 5 or 6. The parks really do clear out when these downpours start. For us, it just means that you are thankful you aren't wearing sneakers and you keep going. Epcot has to be one of the best parks in the rain. You feel like you have the world showcase to yourself!

I don't mind the rain, BUT I mind the LIGHTNING!! I don't feel like getting electricuted on my trip, not on this trip! So I voted #2.

yes def. last summer was the most RAIN we have ever seen. we have gone like 4 - 6 times in the summer, we were very lucky until last summer. but we just kinda waited out the thunder and just kinda stopped in alot of stores. were hoping this summer will be better .

Yup, we were there last July and man oh man did it rain. We carried our ponchos and proceeded as if it was sunny. But despite the fact that we sat with an extremely large group of "yellows" the Fantasmic show was cancelled on our last night. Big disappointment! But we will return!! With the "yellows".

On our last trip it POURED. Not the 15 minute kind either. People couldn't get out of MK fast enough. Not us-- we had our poncho's and we kept going. Most things were just walk on's within the first 30 minutes.

We did have my 16 month old neice in her stroller. We covered it w/ a poncho secured w/ clothespins. She was quite happy in there. However she refused to keep her feet in . So everywhere we went she all's you seen was a plastic covered stroller w/ her little toes hanging out. There was no lighting, we would of found shelter if there had been.

It rained a bit this past week. Our day at MGM was slightly cut short by it because the rain was pretty brutal but we did everything we wanted to do, and walked onto ToT 5 times in a row! Rain can be nice.

The next day it was slightly drizzly and NO ONE was at MK. We literally walked onto everything there. Twice. We hit every single Fantasyland attraction and HM before our 11:30 lunch.

Wishes still went on, but it was obscured a bit by fog which was kind of a let down, but I'm sure we'll see it again in December.
We altered our plans on the night we had planned to do Fantasmic. We ended up seeing Fantasmic a night early because I was worried it would be canceled due to weather and so we waited for our seats and got front row center! Amazing!
We then canceled Hollywood & Vine for dinner and went over to Epcot where we went on Mission Space and got to be the only two people in the capsule and then had one of the best meals of our trip at Le Cellier! Wow. We will definately be dining there again.

When we came out it was still raining but we watched the end of Illuminations anyway! Then it calmed down for our walk out of the park.

I personally found the rain to be a welcome guest. It kept the crowds down to next to nothing. We seriously had no waits on anything all week. Sure we had to alter our plans, but they worked out better than the original (Fantasmic, front row center... may I mention that again ) and Le Cellier over H&V worked out great as well!

Our last trip, June 2002, it POURED every day, nearly all day long. We kept going, but honestly, after the 2nd or 3rd day of being soaked from head to toe, it got tiring and we were not happy about all the rain! I've had better trips to the World!!

Hopefully this next trip in May will be MUCH drier!

How cute, lol. I hope you got a picture of that. We always stay when it rains. Lots of rides are walk on then because so many people take off.

I live in Seattle. If I don't go out when its raining, I don't go out. hee hee.

In any event, rain in Orlando does not bother me one iota. The lightening can get a little scary when it is going on but I have to say some of my best WDW memories are sitting on a balcony at OKW or the back one at the AC, and watching the thunderstorms churn. Beautiful.
