It's Prom Time!

We get out of school for the summer about that time. It got extended due to snow & ice so I'm not sure what day we end now. It seems strange to me because you said that is early. Wow. I didn't know we had such big differences in school years.

Most school systems in the northeast start school after Labor Day. We have a ton of breaks during the school year. As a result, school doesn't end until the end of June. ( I love our school schedule:woohoo:)

My son's school -a Catholic HS has prom May 21 and graduation June 6. The senior trip was in February.:upsidedow

Most schools (public and private) will have their senior trips early June, prom mid June and graduation late June.

Oh my goodness, I love these pictures! You girls (and your girls) are gorgeous!

Babytrees, I am in awe of your bargain finding abilities. :rotfl:She looks beautiful and I can't believe you got off so cheaply.

I love this one....very much....

There are many color to choose..

I love this dress!! My DD has a homecoming dress that is similar to that. Last year my DD wore a big poofy dress to prom, but this year she didn't want one of those. I guess since she's 18 now she needs to look grown up! ;) I wasn't ok with the tight slinky dress last year, but now that she's a year older it seemed ok to me.

Here's last years big poofy dress....yes, I know she looks like she is getting married!! :rotfl: But it was crunch time and we were in Minot North Dakota where there aren't many options so she went with white. She really wanted orange, so she was pretty happy about finding the orange dress this year.

I need to put this dress on Ebay and sell it for a wedding dress!!

Is it common for ladies to have tux jackets now? I read the post and I thought that you were buying the guys tux jacket.

I have never seen that before.

she wanted a jacket for cover up (it is still cold here in CO mid April) and that is the one that worked the best.

I may be a penny pincher...but I've got style:rotfl:

(we happened across Dillard's doing a 50% off clearanced items for one day.....dress and shoes were both originally $80 each....for $26 we got the dress, shoes and a dress for my younger one:cool1:)

i dont know, i think the boys spend just about the same amount as the girls if not more..my ds18 got his tux $150.00 tickets $65.00 flowers $35.00 .when my dd went to the prom a few years ago she only spent $65.00 on a dress.here is a pic of her and best friend, shes the one with the multi blue/green dress, my sons prom is on apr 24,which is really early -i hope it warms up by then.

My dumb DD just froze!! Because no way was she going to cover up her dress with the PARKA that she actually needed in March in North Dakota....but oh well, kids can be dumb!! :rotfl:

Oh, and would anybody like to refresh my memory on this.

Do parents go to the Grand March? Or just the parents of kids in the court? Geez, come to think of it, the prom is going to be about 25 miles away, so I can't imagine many parents following their kids there for it. :confused3

Just rented DS's tux yesterday. $144 including shoes. It's still much better that what I spent when my DD was in HS.

In North Dakota the whole freaking town went for Grand March and it was really cool. But I've never been at another school that did it. Where I live now all the kids and parents get together at the courthouse in town and take pictures.

everybody here goes to the grand march and theres never enough room in the auditorium so mostly everyone stands outside, its a real traffic mess.

we don't have a Grand March....never even heard of it. :confused3

I know that the boy is going to spend more on prom:rotfl:

He, for some reason, felt the need to get her a necklace to ask her to go with him (they've been boyfriend/girlfriend for almost 4 months). He has to rent the tux and pay for dinner (tickets are free for seniors).

Our HS holds the Grand March in the Auditorium of the HS and then the students board school buses for the Prom.

I would check and see if your school does the same.

The whole town turns out for our Grand March!:rotfl: They charge $2.00 entry to the GM, which is then used for next year's prom.

Take lots of photos!

DD's senior prom is May 14th! The tickets are $140 per person  She is bringing a boy who is a junior, so she is paying for his ticket. $280 for tickets which is crazy! Her dress was $150, she's wearing last year's shoes, the limo is being donated by her friend's grandfather who owns a limo company. She will get her hair done-probably about $80. She will do her own fake nails-$5.

Luckily she's started working! :)

Clueless about the Grand March as well

Well, it's been a long time since my own prom, but a grand march is when all the couples line up and parade around the room, then the court stands up front for the king & queen to get crowned and get their pictures taken. I think that's what we did.

Oh, and a friend and I were actually debating last night as to whether we actually had a grand march, and we came to the conclusion that we didn't for the prom, but we did for the Cinderella Ball in the fall. Neither one of us can remember it for the prom. I have pictures from the Ball, but none for the prom.

My prom was a mess and I handled it badly. I'd broken up with my boyfriend the month before and made plans to go with another boy. Well, he decided not to go and I knew my ex boyfriend still wanted to take me, so I went with him. By then, I was dating yet another boy, so it was awkward all around. :sad2: I have no pictures from the prom, no mementos or anything.

In the Grand March in North Dakota all the couples lined up out of view. Then the principal would announce a couple and they would walk out and across the auditorium under a spotlight. It was really neat and you could see al the kids and see what they were wearing. It took a long time, and my DD skipped it this year, but last year she said it was really fun.

At our school the prom couples - or even just an individual boy or girl - go backstage of the auditorium.

Parents, relatives, and friends each pay $2.00 for a ticket and a seat in the auditorium. The stage is decorated and an MC announces each couple or individual. They walk across the stage, a photographer takes their photo (which the school gives them), then down the steps and up the aisle.

At the end of the Grand March the prom court is announced and the Queen and King are crowned.

Parents, etc. get more photos of the couples and then they board buses to take them to the Prom.
