It's Official! Tusker House turning into TS

The new Tusker House buffet will be the only ts place in AK that takes the dining plan. That means that some people will probably eat there just to use up their ts credit for their AK day, so it's likely to be popular. Plus, until now, AK was the only park w/o a buffet option for dinner. For families who like buffets, this is good news.

That said, Tusker House is one of my favorite cs places in all of WDW. I will miss it when it's gone! We'll be taking our business on over to Flame Tree, which isn't bad but it doesn't have a/c and during the summer it's nice to sit in a/c. I know about Pizzafari, but I'd rather eat the BBQ than pizza once the selections from Tusker House are gone.

I'm glad we ate at Tusker House one last time in September. It remains to be seen whether we'll use a TS credit there when it opens as a buffet. If the quality of food is the same, I'll definitely consider it.

I wonder if they are going to redo Restaurantosauros now. I've never been, largely because it is simply McDonald's.

The only thing that might redeem this decision is if they put on the wonderful buffet that the Sunrise Safari offers for breakfast. It was outstanding!

I hope they'll keep AK open later ! And possibly even add a night time parade. I know there can't be any fireworks because of the animals, but something like Spectro would be great.

I really think Disney is missing the boat on this! Tusker House is the best cs on property (I have to go every trip). If they wanted to do a character breakfast why not do Lion King or Jungle Book characters. Please please keep Tusker House as a cs. I hate Pizzafari and Flame Tree is too hot. Why not try this after Y&Y opens? Most of the time I don't mind change but not this one!!!

I wish this was a both/and situation instead of an either/or. Disney seems to take that approach all too often: e.g., removing Millionaire at MGM to add Midway Mania, even though Millionaire was still a popular attraction. Why not do both? I know it costs more, but it feels "janky", like Disney's at capacity and they have to take something out in order to put in something new.

How about giving guests some added value by doing both? Let's have a TS restaurant while still keeping a very popular CS (one of the few CS restaurants at AK, BTW). Guess the green-eyeshade guys are still in charge.

This is not good news for us. We discovered Tusker House on our last trip and it was one of our best meals ever at WDW. We loved the food and the atmosphere. We were really looking forward to it in December partly because my DS has been diagnosed with food allergies since our last trip and Tusker House still had good options for him like the rot. chicken. None of the other counter service places in AK will most likely be able to meet his needs as well. It will be another hamburger minus the bun for him.

Extending hours would be great, even just 1 or 2 hours extra throughout the year, although they may need to add some extra lighting for the paths.

AK is usually viewed as a half-day park, which is a shame cuz there's so much to see and do with the animal exhibits and the shows. The addition of EE has bulked up the crowds here, and extending hours slightly and adding 2 TS places for dinner would keep people in the park forking their money over to Disney. Which I applaud as a shareholder!

That may just be what Mr. Iger aims to do.

AK has been trying to be a full day park and this will help with that.

As for the for the change, well it is the fault of the DDP.

With all these buffets, who is going to fit in the rides anymore?

I can see the buffet instead of a TS. They can keep the menu of items limited which lowers the cost of supplies to Tusker House.

Tusker House is closing on August 20 and will reopen on November 17 as a full serve buffet restaurant.

When Tusker House reopens, it will offer the "Donald's Safari Breakfast" from 8:00am thru 10:30am.

Buffet Lunch/Dinner will be served starting at 11:30am until park closing.(Only breakfast will feature characters.

Note that "Donald's Breakfastosaurus in Restaurantosaurus will be discontinued on November 5. That dining venue will continue to be counter serve from 10:30am till park closing.

Can some recent visitors tell me what Tusker House serves for breakfast and the prices in general? Their breakfast menu is not listed on the WDW restaurant menus list, just lunch and dinner items. We will be there the first week in June, so it will still be counter service at that point. Thanks.

I do hope the new lunch menu stays much the same as it is now. The chicken and grilled salmon with the green beans and rice is quite awesome and very healthy. The corn chowda is good too.

Haven't seen this posted yet, but it is now confirmed that Tusker House will become a character breakfast with Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy. Donald's Breakfast at Dinoland will be no more.

Lunch and dinner buffets at new restaurant will be non-character.
