It's Official! Tusker House turning into TS

Tusker House was one of my favorite CS. I am upset they will be closed for our trip. Where will we eat lunch in AK? I was planning on having dinner at a resort that day and eating at Tusker. Does Flame Tree have indoor seating?

Anyone else thinks that it's really ironic how a few months ago Disney was talking about "offering more healthy food" to justify the change in the kids' menus, yet they're closing down one of the few CS that served something besides pizza, burgers and fried food?:confused3

Just back from a recent trip to the World. We always loved Tusker House and would look forward to having the chicken and chocolate cake. This time it was not one of our favorites. We felt it changed. The chicken was dried out and not as flavorful and the wonderful piece of chocolate cake you used to get has been demoted to the kind that's in the plastic containers. YUCK!! Maybe its for the best.

I'm just sick about this. TH is my very favorite CS in all of the world. Wouldn't you know they'd have to change it and to a buffet... I get so sick of eating buffet food. Changing it to a full-service TS would have been better.

You make a very good point! The quality of the food there for a CS restaurant was very good. The salmon and rice with green beans was oustanding for the price. The Food Channel show that features some of the restaurants at WDW including a feature on TH meals will now have to be edited. ;)

I agree - that cake in a plastic tub is YUCK! The changes in counter service desserts seems almost directly tied to the dining plan.

I'm sad about Tusker house changing over. We really like it there.

I'm really disappointed by this. I won't be eating there once it switches, even though TH was our favorite CS restaurant.

I understand the I'm in the minority. But here's why it doesn't work for my family.

We are VERY light eaters. When we go to TH, I order one rotisserie chicken and one salmon, and two drinks for the family (typically 4 of us). I use my DDE discount (which probably will go away at CS there once they open TS restaurants, so another big boo). So I spend about $24 to feed my family, and we're full, and the food was healthy.

Now Disney will ask $24 per person for what is likely the same meal. It's not worth the money to me. I guess it will be flame tree for food at AK now. It is okay, but not as good as TH in my opinion. DD doesn't eat pizza, and I haven't even told my kids about the restaurantasaurus since they eat too much McDs anyway!

That's us, too. Me & DW would split the chicken meal, an extra order of the yummy veggies, & the carrot cake (not the new little round one). It filled us up & that would be our big meal of the day! We so looked forward to TH!!

I really don't like this idea. Why fix something that isn't broke? Its consistently rated one of the top CS joints in WDW. Blow up the Dinoland place.

The the seating is outdoors. There's alot of seating, very shady and lots of ceiling fans, so it's not so bad. Still not as nice as A/C on a hot, humid day! But, we love Flame Tree!

Disney serves its patrons in proportion to how much each set of patrons rewards them for serving them. Right now, young families are rewarding Disney like never before, and young families like buffets. They're having far more positive impact on Disney than the foodies, the young couples and the empty-nesters (like us!), so Disney's offerings are being redressed to better serve them.

BUMMER! Best CS in all of disney. To the people who stated they hope the food will be as good as the TH, Did you ever have food at a buffet that was as good as freshly hot prepared food? Not me.:headache: To all they families with picky eaters...Hope you enjoy. :sad2:

The lunch buffet food at Crystal Palace was very good. Lots of veggies, several types of meat and a huge selection of fresh salads.

We'll give it a try I am sure. Never a fan of TH, we are Flame Tree fans. But I know TH offered some unique offerings and it is a shame it is going.

What I am really bummed about is that more than likely the DDE discount will no longer be vlaid at the CS in AK. I will miss that discount:guilty:

Add me to the list of those disappointed - in case the powers that be Disney are listening ;) .

JMHO - but if there is a need/desire for a TS buffet at AK, why at the expense of a much more needed air conditioned CS restaurant? We love to spend the entire day at AK. Tusker House is our mid-day break. In addition to the fantastic food, it gave us a chance to cool off and rest up before going on to more attractions & making a day of it. Now, we'll just plan on spending 1/2 day. It won't matter to my family if park hours are extended - we'll all be too hot & tired to stay for dinner.

How about this:
1) Leave our beloved TH as it is :thumbsup2
2) Leave Donald's Breakfast as it is :thumbsup2
3) Add a nice Disney TS character buffet that accepts DDP (someone here suggested Jungle Book characters) :thumbsup2
4) Stop adding TS restaurants that won't accept DDP :thumbsup2

Don't know if we are a "young family" with a 6 & 10 yr old, but I think buffets are a major main in the behind with kids. We have only eaten at TH, but thought the food was very good. Sorry to see it change.
