It's Official: last year of Osborne Lights

I'm going one last time in November. I actually booked my Disney holiday at Disneyland this year so I was a little bummed out until I realized I could go on points and travel to Orlando for a quick trip.

I'm so glad that a few years ago, my daughter went on a camera rampage of the lights so we have plenty of memories and pictures of the streets.

I booked the desert party so I can sit and take it all in. Not sure on the crowds, so I want to end the Osborne experience with calmness. I will stay as long as I can until they slowly kick me out:D

Every year we still look for the Hidden Mickeys & orange cat. I imagine we'll spend some extra time this year.
Sad to say goodbye.

This just ruined my day! Osborne lights were my very favorite thing about holidays at wdw, possibly very favorite thing about wdw ever. I wil not be there to see them one more time :(

We added two days to the front of our trip so DS can see them. Checking in the Swan on 1/2 before our original check-in to Kidani on 1/4. I know it's early but do you all think the potential for capacity closures is real on 1/3, the last night?

I'd rather use part of the extra park day at Epcot and not stay in the Studios all day. But if need be. I would hate to miss them when we added the two nights just to see them.

Not sure how the phases of closures work. We wouldn't be parking at the park and we are AP holders.

Thank you for any insight.

I have never seen HS close for capacity, I have no idea if it ever has, but it at least is not a place prone to closures like MK is. So my gut is telling me you will probably be fine. That said, it is important enough you added days so caution is a good way to go. Their capacity could be lower due to construction depending how that goes, or there could be holdovers from NYE. I would be safe and spend morning at EP and then go over to HS early afternoon, say 2 or 3.

Anyone else read the rumor that they might put a smaller scale of the light show in EPCOT? I just did. I heard with all of the petitions going around for the show...it may just happen. I am in no way saying I know for sure, but I think its a great idea for them to put it there.

As many people as the lights pull in, I'm not sure a "smaller" version would work. I do think they could put them in Epcot though.

I made a 4 PM ADR at Brown Derby just to be safe...but we're going to be there on December 29th, which I imagine will be much busier than the 3rd and 4th...even if the 3rd is the last night EVER :-) Our plan is to start walking over from Epcot around 2 or 3. Good luck! We are making a day trip up from Bradenton JUST to see the lights one last time!

Thanks! To all who responded. Maybe we'll just make a day of dhs to be safe.

Our friends live in Bradenton they'll be joining us at kidani the second weekend of our trip :).

I've posted on two other threads, I see you have noted the Dec 9th date as no lights but someone noted on this site seeing conflicting information regarding Dec 2nd- a popular crowd calendar lists no lights or Fantasmic on the 2nd as well as the 9th- my family has seen the lights before so it's not a must do but it was something we were hoping for and our plans are pretty set in stone to try to change to another night, should be noted I booked Fantasmic on the 2nd so hoping this source is wrong but wanted others to know in case they're in the same boat as a few others are!

As of now it's on the schedule for Dec. 2nd, there's even availability for the dessert party.

Thank you! And yes we will be down for a couple of weeks to turn the lights on a few times and then to finally turn them off on the last night. We've been very blessed to be able to bring the lights to so many people and never in Jennings wildest dreams did he imagine that the lights would have such an impact on so many people.

I saw rumors about the lights moving to Epcot next year....any chance of this happening?

As you plan ahead, we also wanted you to know that this holiday season will mark the finale for The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The display of lights has enjoyed a successful run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, going all the way back to when it first appeared on Residential Street.

In order to prepare for some incredible experiences coming to the park, including the recently announced Toy Story Land and a Star Wars-themed land, we will not be able to present The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in the future. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the family of Jennings Osborne for letting us share their family tradition year after year. And thank you to all of you for being part of the spectacle with us. Here’s to making more memories in this, the 20th and final year.

EDIT TO ADD: The Osborne Lights are shown every night starting Nov. 6th thru Jan. 3rd from 6pm to one hour after park closing except November 17th for the CM party, park closes at 4pm and December 9th park closes at 6pm.

I am so sad to see them go. We went to WDW from Christmas Eve until New Year's Day in 2007/2008. We had the pleasure of seeing the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The memories we have of that night will remain with us forever. It was our hope to one day return and see it again...especially with our future grandchildren. :( We can only afford to go every 3 years to WDW, and Christmastime has been too expensive for us to return. I am so grateful that we got to see them on that trip. We had no idea that it would be a once in a lifetime event.

On Friday, I was in my beauty salon's waiting area. One of the stylists was talking about her recent trip to WDW and how they "have" to go back again soon. She was so annoyed about going back to WDW almost like it would be inconvenient. She said, "Yeah, so there is this light show in Hollywood Studios for Christmas and it is ending this year. I guess it will be okay." I wanted to scream at her that it isn't just some ordinary light show, and how fortunate she is to be able to return to WDW within months of her last trip. AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Spoiled brat.

Considering that the Lights of Wonder have been gone for years, and WEDWDW put a winking smiley at the end of her post, I would say no. ;)

If WEDWDW's comment is supposed to be a joke, it isn't funny.

If it is actually true, I will be thrilled to see them again one day in Epcot with my extended family.

I guess only time will tell...
