A Government Threat to Birth Control
Sen. Hillary Clinton and other advocates of women's rights say a planned regulation could cut access to contraception

A new set of health laws that could be proposed by the government sometime in the next few weeks has women's health activists steaming. If the laws are implemented, they claim, women will have a harder time getting access to contraception.

The legislation, a draft of which was leaked last week to the New York Times, stokes the debate over when human life begins by taking the position that birth control that prevents the implantation of a fertilized egg actually results in abortion. It would prohibit federally funded medical facilities—including teaching hospitals and Planned Parenthood clinics—from refusing to hire doctors who don't want to dispense birth control pills and other types of contraception that may cause the expulsion of a fertilized egg. (It's already illegal to discriminate against doctors who refuse to perform abortions.) The new laws would also override state laws that require hospitals to offer emergency contraception to rape victims and those that require employers to provide contraceptives along with other prescriptions.

I like her :cool1: She seems like the kind of no BS person we need in office. Now I am looking forward to the next few months :thumbsup2

Yep. She's the ENEMY of women.

Give me a break.

I am so sick of liberal women spewing their rhetoric as if they speak for us all. You do not speak for me. I am a woman and today Sarah Palin made me feel proud to be a woman, a Republican, a conservative, and an American. Her views mirror mine almost exactly.

I'd hardly call that "my enemy." Speak for yourself. Let the rest of us speak for ourselves.

How creepy was it that McCain stood at her elbow during her speech? How fake were those hugs they gave each other? Like air kisses, air hugs.

ALrighty then - this is coming from someone who supports an Obama/Biden ticket :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The hypocrisy is astounding.

Do you know how many working moms there are in the world? How many high-powered working moms who have to travel there are in the world? That's the mindset that will keep the glass ceiling from ever breaking.

I personally would be uncomfortable leaving my young children much of the time for work reasons, whether it be as a business traveler or as VP of the US.

I wanted Hillary to break the glass ceiling, very strongly, but I was glad that she had a GROWN child that she didn't have to raise anymore.

That's all I meant.

Well, it will be pretty awkward at first.... seeing that McCain doesn't know her at all. Do you think he has "Palin" written on his hand? Or do you think his staffers point her out to him? "Over there - that's your VP nominee... go say hello."

People don't adopt those children, typically. I worked at an adoption agency that discounted black or bi-racial (one black parent) babies. Nobody wanted them, we were turning away black birth mothers. One adoptive couple even returned a biracial baby because it wasn't fully Caucasian. I spoke to the man the baby was placed with and at first I thought he was saying the child had some horrible disease or some physical disability. He kept saying "the baby looks all right to me." Of course he did, he was perfectly healthy and light-colored. He didn't "look" black yet.

This is so sad but true.

My girlfriend adopted five non white children....and she and her husband are white. She was a foster parent first and fell in love with these girls.

I called about the possibility of adopting a child with an adoption agency that deals primarily with minority children. They practically THREW children at me. That was several years ago and I found out I had health issues so I dropped the inquiry.

I was amazed at how many children were "available". I remember asking about it on the DIS and got flamed like wildfire. People were going to China, Russian, everywhere to get children while there were so many here wanting parents... :sad1:

Really - you are going to pick on me for replacing a word sarcastically (when I agreed with the poster) -- if you read the context -it makes sense - especially after Obama's speech last night that it was the gov'ts fault for not bailing people out of their mistakes caused by their own decision. Typical democrat mantra.

You should be reaming the person who keeps stating over and over that Palin is the enemy of all women. That's real intelligent. Whatever.

So I'm a good little Democrat because you think I'm terminating this pregnancy? I'm not, I'm choosing to become a mother. I just don't happen to think pregnancy is a wonderful experience. I can't wait until February.

FAKE? You're talking fake? Michelle Obama trying to smile while Hillary was speaking oozed fakeness (You could just see the daggers in her eyes). Hillary trying to be nice to Obama oozed fakeness. Bill trying to be nice to Obama Oozed fakeness.
I don't know if you realize this, but the Clintons and the Obamas aren't exactly buddies. I saw more fakeness in the DNC then I've seen in a long, long time.

Just think - YOU could have been the VP nom. It sounds like you have about the same amount of experience.

This is a very very interesting pick. She simultaneously has a draw for disaffected Clinton supporters (who aren't happy with Obama) as well as an affinity with blue collar democrats (ditto).

A much more strategic decision from an electoral view than I was expecting, and very shrewd.

Going to be an interesting campaign.

Don't feed the trolls.

Well, I'm tired of conservatives relentlessly trying to take away women's rights.

Hillary is not the VP candidate, big difference.

I don't see how this is a good pick, AT ALL. The Republicans shout "inexperienced" at Obama, but the truth is this woman is not qualified at all for the job. She's only been governor for a year and a half, she's pretty much a newbie at this. Plus, while talking today she seems so unoriginal at speech-making, and she even ripped off Hilary's glass ceiling bit.

It's pretty much a cheap way to get womens' votes, imho.

I didn't mean it to sound like a mother's place is in the home. Every woman has a choice how to raise their family. I just said I feel sorry for the young kids if she wins.

Why would you feel sorry for her kids? They will still have two loving parents, one of which would be VP of United States of America. That is definitely something to feel sorry over....

The same logic can be applied to Obama's young kids - feel sorry for them if their daddy is elected President.....how much time do you think he will have for them?

I am amazed that in this day and age it's still okay for a father to have high ambitions, but it's not okay for a mother.......

Investigation to begin into whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan

Lawmakers will hire someone within a week to investigate whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved 100,000 dollars for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister.
Legislators approved hiring a special investigator to look into the controversial firing of former Public
....he was pressured by the governor and her staff to fire a trooper who was once married to Palin's sister.

The trooper she wanted fired was a wife-beater. That's who I want to serve and protect me. I think I'll give her a pass on this one.
