Twenty three days till my found points trip.

For newbies that want to know that MS can and does mess up and to show the importance of getting your point total at the end of every call, I will relate my 'found points' story again.

More than two years ago I made an eleven night OKW GV reservation, I had to cancel it and rebook it later on the same phone call.

A month and a half later I had to do the same thing. This move was to a lower(slightly) point season for part of the trip. THe lower point season is irrelevent to the story.

Three weeks later I had to do it again.

I almost never cancel and rebook, I think was actually the first time.

As I was remaking the reservation day by day, we got to the sixth day and they asked if I wanted to borrow points. I said that I didn't have to, I had plenty, I just cancelled the same vacation, it was canceled WAY out, like ten months outs, where are those points????

I got to a manager, we sent ten faxes back and forth all marked up, she was trying to tell me that they mis-allocated me too many points. These faxes were those unintelligible "point usage" sheets. I have two contracts both with the same use year and these things were totally incomprehensible. We spent many hours on the phone going back and forth with these faxes, shen was trying to show me how from day 1 of our membership, all the points we had recieved ezualed what we used plus what we had left...according to them.

After this wild encounter the final word was that I was out 270 points that they had "mis-allocated" me, I knew I was right, but could do nothing.

Then six months ago I called to check on something and I asked offhandidly "how many points do I have?

I knew the answer, but was just checking, the answer was none current, 10 banked into next year and a full allotment come September. GUESS WHAT SHE SAID??????

She said that I had 10 banked, a full alotment next September and 270 current?

I was right and their computer fixed it automatically, wow, and extra 270 points. I found the manager I spoke with originally, she was astounded and said that she would bank them with no problem at all.

270 points and no real use for them, I booked three nights AKL concierge and one night in a two bedroom at OKW....the three AKL night have two weekend nights, stupid use of points, but they were like found oints and I still have a full allotment Sep 1.

MS can and does mess up. I don't know where their error was made, but I have the point program and use it religously now.

We leave after work Wednesday the 23rd, 22 days!!!!!

That will put you in the two bdrm at OKW on Saturday, Oct 26. I will check into a two bdrm at OKW Oct 24 checking out Oct 27. Maybe we will be neighbors. I always request Old Turtle Pond area, maybe I should yell out your name a few times to see if you are around.

Wed 23 Oct is the OKW two bedroom, Thurs thru Sat, leave Sunday, AKL Concierge.

Start yelling on Wednesday, we should arrive around dinner time. I always hope that, but it never happens. We have to leave after school Wednesday, but the wife will still be packing, the dopey kid will have something stupid to do with her silly horse, the wife will need to stop at the store, one of my employees will have their car breakdown, a client will have a major network crash.....I still can dream about arriving at dinner time, its less than a four hour drive, the kid is out of school at 2:30.

A guy can dream, can't he?

Richyams,

I've read your previous posts about the missing points before. I love that story. Thanks for posting it again. Makes me want to re-calculate my points again! :p

I totally agree with you that those account activity sheets are confusing and incomprehensible - and must they send out the entire history of it? Can you imagine how thick some of those mailings must be for early members with multiple trips, points, contracts, etc.? It must rival the NYS offering plans! Yikes!

We just back from Florida last weekend. We spent a weekend in Miami and stopped to visit a friend who lives in Weston Hills. I assume that I was in Weston, Florida - north of Miami? It's pretty developed there (where she is) now. The drive back to WDW was pretty fast and smooth up the Florida turnpike. Going down to Miami, we made the mistake of taking I-95. Never again - construction and traffic make the trip over 5 hours.

Have a great found points trip! It certainly feels better than when they "lost" your points. At least when they "found" your points, they became current points. I can just imagine them "finding" your points only to find out that they had "lapsed" since you didn't use or bank them last year!!!

Thanks for the story Richyams. Glad it all worked out for you, and I'll be keeping a close watch on my points!

Oh Richyam, even though you will be suffering for one night in the two bedroom rather than a GV (there are people out there who are very envious). Me included.

Anyone driving from Miami or Ft Lauderdale to WDW should bite the bullet, pay the $10+ in tolls and take the turnpike. It is way more predictable. There are so many places that 95 can get blocked up, its silly.

Math, figures, charts, computers are my life. I am real, real good at deciphering even the most convoluted financial statements and balance sheets.....almost like that kid in MERCURY RISING with Bruce Willis, the kid who could look at pages of text and see patterns.....I found their error and showed it to them clearly in many faxed and marked up attempts. THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THEIR OWN SYSTEM!!!!!

I was explaing very slowly and concisely exactly what each entry was, each and every time I lead her through the calculations, we came up to the right answer, each time she agreed and then called me back and said that further research says I am wrong. It was the most frustrating thing I ever dealt with.

It was such a surprise to hear that number, 270, I had completely forgotten about the whole awful mess a long time ago, it took a second to sink in, but I recognized the number, 270, that was the number of points in dispute.

Rich,

This is what just happened to me last week. I cancelled 2 reservations (way in advance)....then MS gave me my point balance and it was 38 points short of my figures. We went back & forth, kinda like Rich, and she insisted she was right. Put me on hold twice for over 20 min. each time! Turned out that the one of my cancelled reservations, even thou it cancelled and gave MS a cancellation number, it did NOT give back the points for some unknown reason. MS said they would have to correct it manually and to check back in 2 days. Voila, my 38 points are back!

I can not imagine the loss of 270 points....I was sweating over those measly 38!! :)

Watch out for your points when you make a cancellation!

I remember your posts about the "missing points." Have a wonderful time!!!! And don't suffer too much in a 2 bedroom! ;););)

As for MS mistakes......
I am the Queen Of Documentation!!

Anytime I speak to someone on the phone, whether it is Member Services or a department store, I always jot down names, times, prices, info, etc and just stash the info in a file. Never know when you might need it!!!! And there has been many times when the info has come in handy!

Let us know how you trip was and good luck leaving by 2:30 ;)

Karen

I agree those sheets are a nightmare.....I lost all my info for the past 2 years and had it rebuid it from the MS sheets.....AAAAAAAAHHHH!! I went crazy for days trying to make heads or tails of the information...

Glad to hear it worked out Rich....
