It's kind of fun to do the impossible - Disney with a 1 month old *new 2/13/15*

The view is fabulous! Even better with a beer in hand:thumbsup2

I agree with you. I'm glad we got a few nights at BLT in October, but i'm not in a rush to return. DH really enjoyed the feel of it it though, so i'm sure we'll be back here in a few years. DM wasn't a fan of the theming (older generation ;)) However, walking back from the MK to BLT at the end of the night couldn't have been more perfect and a nice option to have.

I wonder if this was the same CM we had run into in October. He was very over the top, talking like Goofy and Donald (actually, did very good impersonations of them, even the other CM's would ask him to do the voices!) but he was just overly excited about everything.

I almost rented DVC points and stayed at BLT for my solo trip. Being so close to MK is very enticing. But just the room would have cost as much as the whole package at Pop so... didn't happen. Your pics are awesome though, and I hope I get to stay there someday!

Passing along the balloon... you know I love it. And I love that she got it too!!!

Turning the phone off instead of taking a picture... It happens to the best of us.

I'm guessing "Oo-De-Lally" may have been uttered upon arrival?

You know the saying, location, location, location. And this is a location that's hard to beat. Monorail comes to you, PLUS you can walk if you like. Plus monorail to Epcot as a bonus. Yeah, I'd put location at least twice. It really is hard to put a value on it... but Disney does ;)

It's true, not a lot of Disney theming... well except for that view out the window, lol.

Wow!!! The CR looks amazing!!! All of your pros are exactly why we chose it for our upcoming stay in April. We think it will be the best with an infant and all of our infant stuff!

Only bummer is that the TPV has not been available with our military discount, but I keep checking...:goodvibes

Good to see your review of the CR. We're staying there for the first time in October but will be in the Garden Wing to save a little money. You're right about the price still but it'll work for us because we're staying for just the weekend and most of our plans revolve around MK and two MNSSHP. I figured being able to just stroll back to the room late at night with two tired and sleepy kids from the parties were enough of a reason so I can totally relate with your reasoning about the benefits of the proximity and not having to fold up your stroller.

Also have to agree with you about the theming of CR or the lack there of which is why prior to our October trip I never had a strong desire to stay there.

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product of the Poly refurb, I'm not so much looking forward to how that will affect the price tag of staying there. :rotfl:

So whenever I hear about Boca I think about Seinfield reruns. Sorry. I can't help it. :confused3

What a great time at the beach. The kids are having a total blast. :thumbsup2

Your room at the contemporary is beautiful. I love it! I am sad that as a DVC member I will never stay in those rooms, only BLT.

Your view is truly priceless and I am sure the hop, skip, and a jump to the castle was really worth the extra cost! ::yes::

I actually like the rooms at the Contemporary even though they aren't over the top Disney. The extra bed thing is awesome and though the sinks don't look practical for other things, being able to wash a baby in it is useful, right? ;)

Though they do make me feel a little like, I don't know how to describe it. They're cool but sorta cold looking, do you know what I'm getting at?

Plus the view from your room. Ahh! Very awesome.

Good to see the pros and cons next to each other. Of course the major con would always be price for me. But someday *sighs wistfully*

It's too bad they never expanded the monorails to the other parks. You really wouldn't be able to put a price on the monorail resorts if you could travel to all the theme parks by monorail! Now they haven't been expanded or refurbished really that I know of.

I would LOVE to experience the view! How awesome to wake up to Cinderella's castle and go to bed after watching Wishes. Just love it.

YEAH you made it to DISNEY!!!!

The rooms looke really spacious and I would have never noticed that if it was not for your picture with Judy in it. With a person in the room it really shows how spacious the rooms are IMOP.

That sink sure seems to work out perfect for bath time:thumbsup2

OMG that VIEW!!!!! That is unbelieveable!!!!

WOW! What an amazing view!! I LOVE your room! I get what you're saying about the impracticality of the bathroom, but Emma looks like she was just loving the bath/sink! Looks like you guys had a ton of space, too.

Wowzers!!!!!!!!!

That view is just out of this world! Fantastic! I'm so happy that you guys got to enjoy it! The room does look big on the reverse shot with Judi in it. My eyes got a little bigger when i saw it. Boo to the bathroom though. That seems like a strange oversight that could have been fixed during previous renos.

What a wonderful start to your stay! Can't wait to see more!! :goodvibes

Ah, that is a perfectly acceptable picture of the sign. This last trip, I was so distracted by eating lunch with Izzy and being in the backseat of the bus that I didn’t notice in advance and couldn’t get my phone on in time to even get a picture! Ooops, bad DISer. :sad2:

That has got to be awesome, driving toward the Contemporary and knowing you will be staying there! (We never have). I’m glad Peter was pleased with your choice too. :thumbsup2

Oh, how cool that the balloon was passed along! pixiedust:

That room does look really nice. Minus the lack of bathroom storage, of course. Also neat that Olivia had her own bed. That is an awesome bath picture! :lovestruc

Yep, that is an acceptable view. Very, very nice! :cloud9:

Great update on the Contemporary. Starting the trip is always so exciting. What a great view from your room! You are right...there is no price tag for that.

"Woah, this one" indeed! :lmao:

Aw so sweet that someone passed along their balloon and even sweeter that she wanted to pay it forward too!

The room looks really beautiful. Adorable pic of Emma bathing in the sink!

The view from your room...WOW. I don't think anything beats that.

It was such a great reaction and not necessarily what I was expecting especially as he was asleep - I thought there would be a lot more confusion :lmao:

Yeah, it was really nice and the fact that it happened literally 1 minute after we stepped in the lobby was such a great start to the vacation

Thank you ... yes, the view is definitely a huge selling point

I love Peter's reaction when he woke up and saw where he was staying. :goodvibes

That is so sweet that Olivia "got it" with the balloon.

We've not stayed at the Contemporary since 1989, so I've not been in the new rooms since then. I have to say, I'm not a fan of the decor, but I do LOVE those bathrooms. That sink could not have been more perfect for Emma for her bathtime. Too bad there wasn't a counter or something under the sink to store stuff.

But like you said, with little ones, you can't be the convenience of the monorail with the stroller or just walking to the MK from there.

And WOW...what a view!

I can't wait to hear about Frozen Summer Fun.

Yeah, I was really happy to see how into the idea of "passing along" the balloon Olivia was :goodvibes

The decor was nice and I am sure some people love us, but just didn't scream "family vacation at Disney" to us. In some ways doing a full retro-futuristic style (like just updated version of what they had in 1971 would be more fun. There was a shelf under the sinks but just wasn't convenient for us with wanting stuff for the kids out, etc.

Location and being on the monorail was just invaluable to us with the 3 kids in the stroller - for us, for this trip, it was a great choice!

Oh, we definitely had some Summer Frozen Fun :thumbsup2

OMG! You may not be sold on the Contemporary after staying there, but after seeing your pictures, I am! That view is amazing! We've stayed in BLT but we had a Lake View - I wonder if the theme park views are as good there as at the Contemporary? The Contemporary has just moved up on my list of places I really want to stay!

We have been blessed as recipients of balloons from departing kids a couple times - it is such a nice bit of pixie dust from kid to kid. And, the only way my kids are ever going to experience those ridiculously expensive balloons!

I am dying over the adorableness of the picture of Emma in the sink bath at the Contemporary! Seriously, one of my favorite baby pictures ever! If it fits your decor at all, that blown up in a frame in a bathroom at your house would be awesome. Sorry to be so weird and gush over this picture, it just combines so many awesome elements - the Contemporary, how tiny she is .
(just a wash cloth to cover all of her), plus it's a cute baby taking a sink bath!

How awesome that Peter was excited to be staying at the Contemporary! It's great when the kids appreciate the elements of the trip that aren't specifically designed for them.

Looking forward to reading how the Frozen Summer went for you!

The view really is unbelievable and just how close it is to MK - really hard to put into words and I am so happy and thankful we got to experience it.

It is so nice to pass along the balloons - as you say they aren't cheap BUT they do seem to last for a while so are kind of the perfect thing to "share" :goodvibes

Yeah, the sink really worked well for that and did get a cute picture out of it to boot! We will definitely save that picture and figure out someway to use it ... even if just to embarrass her a bit when she gets picked up for Prom in a few years or something ... man, this trip has been a gold mine for blackmail :rotfl:

Should get to at least some of the Frozen Summer stuff next update! Spoiler alert => It was great! (at least the things we got to)

The view is fabulous! Even better with a beer in hand:thumbsup2

I agree with you. I'm glad we got a few nights at BLT in October, but i'm not in a rush to return. DH really enjoyed the feel of it it though, so i'm sure we'll be back here in a few years. I had to spend at least a little time soaking in the view and a brew ... unfortunately the sun was beating down a bit right on that side of the building and no cover/shade so hard to stay out for too long

The location (and view) really can't be beat but I can understand not loving the theming/style/whatever. I think it might be nice if they make some of the rooms more heavily themed (do a retro future styling or whatever) - kinda like how POR has the princess room. This way if you want more "Disney" you can get it or choose not to have that type of room if you don't want it

Hmm, not sure - definitely didn't see him to any voices or anything. I think he was just really into Star Wars more than anything :lmao:

I almost rented DVC points and stayed at BLT for my solo trip. Being so close to MK is very enticing. But just the room would have cost as much as the whole package at Pop so... didn't happen. Your pics are awesome though, and I hope I get to stay there someday!

Passing along the balloon... you know I love it. And I love that she got it too!!!

It definitely depends on what type of trip you are going to have. For us, with the kids and the stroller, location and being on the monorail trumped a lot of things ... but if solo and not expecting to be in room much, maybe not as important. I think if it can be swung that everyone should try to experience the view at least once - hope you get to stay there someday!

Yup, know you love the passing along the view! Hopefully it is something we can try to do on future trips as well

Turning the phone off instead of taking a picture... It happens to the best of us.

It's true, not a lot of Disney theming... well except for that view out the window, lol.

So I should add that Judi wanted me to mention that she did get betting pictures on her phone while she accidentally turned off the camera and actually asked me to post one of those pictures ... I mean, I would have done that but then I wouldn't have been able to make snide comments about her ;)

But to be fair, here is one of her better pictures:

id5n_8e5_udpu1.jpg

(though I have to say the lighting looks funny with a definite shadow line ... makes it look like one of those backgrounds set up at MGM - like the Streets of Reedy Creek or something :rotfl:)

Yeah, Disney definitely does put a value on the location ... having the discounts helped a bit, but still. But you are so right that location is so important and just made it a totally different experience for us vs either driving a lot more or having to fold down the stroller for the buses etc.

I actually thought about the very point you are making that on one hand I am saying there is not much Disney Theming yet on the other hand there is the very Disney monorail going through the actual building and a giant moving picture of the Magic Kingdom to take into account. :lmao:

What a great room!!! Lots of space too!

The bath pictures is cute -- Emma looks so teeny! Cute!

YAY! Arrival day! I pretty much agree with your pros and cons on Contemporary. Though, the theme is contemporary, so it's spot on. :lmao:

Wow!!! The CR looks amazing!!! All of your pros are exactly why we chose it for our upcoming stay in April. We think it will be the best with an infant and all of our infant stuff!

Only bummer is that the TPV has not been available with our military discount, but I keep checking...:goodvibes

All of the pros are definitely huge pros - and while I did list the cons they absolutely do not outweigh the pros, just wanted to list both positives and negatives. It is such a benefit to not have to fold the stroller - especially if a child (or more) is sleeping. Good luck getting the TPV - really was amazing to have, but I am sure you will have a great time anyway and there are areas you can get out and see the view - are on the 4th floor for example

Good to see your review of the CR. We're staying there for the first time in October but will be in the Garden Wing to save a little money. You're right about the price still but it'll work for us because we're staying for just the weekend and most of our plans revolve around MK and two MNSSHP. As much as I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product of the Poly refurb, I'm not so much looking forward to how that will affect the price tag of staying there. :rotfl:

That will be perfect Dave for MNSSHP with being able to get back easier - it also makes it so much easier for taking breaks during the day - like 10 minutes to and from hotel rather than 30-40 minutes.

The hotel and the rooms were definitely nice, just (other than the view, etc.) seemed more like an nice urban hotel than for a big family vacation at Disney - but I am sure there are people that absolutely want that and don't want the extra theming ... why there are 31 flavors of ice cream I suppose ;)

yeah, I know ... considering they haven't exactly been discounting it much during the construction I can only imagine what the prices will be after the construction in done at the Poly.

So whenever I hear about Boca I think about Seinfield reruns. Sorry. I can't help it. :confused3

What a great time at the beach. The kids are having a total blast. :thumbsup2

Your view is truly priceless and I am sure the hop, skip, and a jump to the castle was really worth the extra cost! ::yes::

No need to apologize - I think the same thing ... plus there are a lot of 55+ communities and a lot of them do have "Boca" in the name ... though I am still looking for "Del Boca Vista ;)

Thank you - we did make it over to BLT as well and it is very nice and there are some great view from there as well!

For us, for this trip specifically it was totally worth it and then some :thumbsup2

I actually like the rooms at the Contemporary even though they aren't over the top Disney. The extra bed thing is awesome and though the sinks don't look practical for other things, being able to wash a baby in it is useful, right? ;)

The rooms were definitely very nice and certainly the proximity to the Magic Kingdom and the fact that there is a monorail going through the building gives it it's own theming.

The sinks definitely did provide some use :rotfl:

I totally get what you are going for and they are a bit of that minimalist/modern style and "cold" is a feeling you can get. I mean, above the headboards were just big, which squares. They were nice in their own way but when you were in the room, particularly when the curtains were closed, it just didn't feel like a family vacation room.

The extra bed was great that and between that and just the fact the room was larger than at other resorts for families of 5 people (or maybe even 6) who are thinking they might need a suite or 2 rooms, doing one of these should definitely be considered.

Awesome is a good work for the view :thumbsup2

And in making the list I didn't want to ignore the cost element. As great as the location was and as amazing as the view was - if you are vacationing where you will be out of the room most of the time and really just need somewhere to sleep is the extra $ worth it?

It's too bad they never expanded the monorails to the other parks. You really wouldn't be able to put a price on the monorail resorts if you could travel to all the theme parks by monorail! Now they haven't been expanded or refurbished really that I know of.

I would LOVE to experience the view! How awesome to wake up to Cinderella's castle and go to bed after watching Wishes. Just love it.

In the original master plan for WDW there were some additional resorts on the Magic Kingdom monorail loop plus a Persian Themed resort that would be on the a bit north of the Contemporary on the other lake that would have had a separate monorail loop for it (that loop actually would have the track going through Tomorrowland) ... but obviously that was never built. Though it hit me this last trip how close the Wilderness Lodge gets to the monorail track and that how hard would it have been to build another station there?

Nowadays it seems like it would just be way, way too costly to build more - definitely think it would be cool if they had another loop - perhaps one that went over towards Animal Kingdom as that park can feel a bit isolated.

It was pretty darn cool to wake up and just be like BAM! There is the castle!

Plus the kids (especially Peter) just loved to see all the activity of monorails and buses going around that being so close the park showed as well.

YEAH indeed! :thumbsup2

I must say that the rooms really were large and felt large - I mean, we had 5 people with a giant stroller and lots of stuff and for the most part never felt tight at all.

And to think they didn't even market the rooms as having "bath time sinks" ;)

Really hard to put the view into words ... especially seeing it live and seeing everything move and being able to hear the music coming from Main St. etc. it's practically like you are staying inside the Magic Kingdom

Following along... We were there the 20th-27th and it's fun reading a trip report for the same time. I can't wait to see where our trips overlapped!

You're trip to the airport had me very tense! I'm glad it went smoothly.

Love the view! I can relate to it being too hot to enjoy it for long...we were at AKL with a savanah view for the first 3 days of our trip, but it was too hot to sit outside and enjoy it. We were melting...or so it felt!
