I just spent 4 days at my parents timeshare off of 192 about 1 mile from the main gate. The experience from the resort to the theme parks totally reinforced why I am DVC and proud of it. My mother booked this room 2 years ago. WOW. My parents are older and easily pleased, which is a great thing. They can find the good in anything. And perhaps ignorance is bliss. But when I walked in the room, I thought, 2 years for this. They use RCI and this is the second resort I have stayed with them that has not impressed me. I'm sure they have nicer resorts that cost more than what my parents payed, but with DVC you can't go wrong. There room was not in great shape, furnishings were as cheesy as the 192 strip was, and top it all off with the frustration of going to the theme parks from off grounds. First just having to pay $7 per day, need I say more. Finding a spot, waiting for tram, waiting for monorail, waiting for park entrance(OK we do that too), waiting for monorail back, waiting for tram back, trying to find car because you did not "commit it to memory". Driving back to resort and I did not even mention the traffic to and fro. Also, I am a big fan of dining on property. My fiancee and I do not have children, thus we can avoid some of the restaurants that substitute good food with great entertainment. Good food, wine and service is one of the reasons we go to Disney. We are not $5 AYCE people.(I am just saying I don't do it, please no feedback saying I am putting those down that dine at such restaurants.) It is much easier to find a nice restaurant at a resort or perhaps Epcot, and having the option of taking a bus back if you had too much to drink. I'm sure this report is nothing new to most of you, but this is my first experience of staying at Disney off property. Need I say never again.
